I basically picked the region I live (Greater Poland) and started from unifying Poland (which happened historically but around 960)

It's year 897. Look at my map and despair:

OK, question, which blob are you? Without the countries drawn on the map, my Eastern European geography isn't good enough to locate Poland (plus, Poland moved about 500 miles to the West 70-odd years ago...).

Poland is the one on the other side of Baltic (south to Sweden) and east to that goldish yellow blob (Bohemia). The borders are still largely modern except for Mecklemburgia and bits of Western Ukraine.
