The Hero of Ikaruga

The Hero's frown grew ever deeper as he bore witness to the despicable atrocities being committed, such a travesty must perish from the face of the Earth itself. The wretched scum had the gall to parade about, like an art exhibit of a warped mind.

Somehow the air grew even colder, on the hero's face a sneer could be seen. The fury he felt could not be described with mere words, no, it was beyond fury, it was a maddening crave for justice, and only the vile one's demise could quench that thirst.

Yes, the Hero of Ikaruga, Major Jin Kisaragi of the Novis Orbis Librarium would quench that thirst. Even if hell itself needed be frozen over the thirst would be quenched.

"You disgust me, the only one here in need of a bag is you. I cannot allow such darkness as yours to taint this world any longer. The blond paused his speech for a moment as he looked down, a shadow growing over his face. Yes, I see now. I MUST defeat you vile fiend. You're the reason I'm here, therefore...

Darcy Hugh

Darcy kept running against the clock, gasping for dear life as he barely took any breaths. He was burning, no; it burned too much to breathe in the first place. His legs, his throat, his lungs, his heart, his entire body was burning like coal, unbearably so.

But the priest didn’t mind the pain; he didn’t even notice it as he pushed his body to its limits like a machine about to break down any second now. The pain he was feeling was nothing, it meant that he could still run.

No, his mind was solely driven by a single purpose, to arrive there as quickly as possible. He didn’t care about anything else, for that was the only thing in the world, his world, which mattered. And so he prayed, he prayed that his motorcycle wouldn’t die on him, he prayed that one of these vehicles would stop, he prayed that someone- anyone would hear his pleads between heavy breaths, he prayed that one of these goddamn cars on the street wasn’t either broken, scrapped or fucking taken.

But more than anything and everything else, more than he ever prayed before, Darcy prayed that whatever happened, they would be safe. So please god, I’ll do anything, I’ll do anything. So please, God please I beg you, oh God don’t take them from me. Please. Please! Kill me but don’t take them, don’t! Oh God, have mercy. Oh God.

He promised, he had promised them. Not like this, not like this goddamit!  But no matter how he prayed, cursed or commanded, it was with horror that the priest finally arrived before the spectacle and realized that praying was no use.

“Haaah...haaah...no...!”

The orphanage was burning to the ground. Walls were crumbling, consumed by the wrathful flames of God. Trying to suppress his emotions, he scanned the area, scavenging it with desperate eyes without a moment’s hesitation or as much as a pause to find composure. And yet... it was futile.

The burning sensation suddenly turned into a chill. It was over. Done. He didn’t know who, he didn’t know why or how. Why did this happen? What should I do? What can I do? The horror and gravity of the situation finally dawned upon him. It was gone. All of it. Everything important to him was being taken by the flames.

But he had made a promise. Without a moment’s hesitation, he ran up to the inferno and kicked the door open. Even if it burned, even if it hurt, even if it was unbearable, even if it killed him, Darcy walked into the burning rubble, searching what was once a simple orphanage but that was now nothing less than hell. He dug into the burning wood and stone, scalding his hands so many times his skin melted off. He needed to save someone, anyone, so he could cling to at least something.

But no matter how much he burned, all he could find was dust and burning remains and even the burning agony of his body did not complain to the fire in his mind. His world was burning, and as he was now, he was simply unable to do anything. Anyone should have given up by now, walked away and moved on.

But Darcy didn’t, he couldn’t. It was the one thing he couldn’t do. He couldn’t even hear his stifled screams over the overbearing silence of the flames, drilling into his ears and slowly but surely taking everything from him. All would burn without exception, and there was nothing he could do. It was too late. It was his fault. But even so, he couldn’t accept it. He kept searching the orphanage even as it was crumbling down, despite the fact that it was growing more and more evident that he would die if he stayed any longer.

He needed to save someone, or he wouldn’t be able to live as a human being anymore.

And then, just as the burning pieces of gore that were once his hands struggled to open a door, the gate  crumbled down and revealed yet another room. The last, final room that was to be his coffin. And suddenly, his eyes were finally filled with a glimpse of hope.

“Eliza.” He gasped, tears falling down his cheeks. He didn’t mean it, he didn’t want this.

He was sorry, so please don’t die. Please. I beg of you, God, please answer this one and only prayer.

He stepped forward, about to reach the girl. It was cruel, tragic. Even for a trick of fate, a bad twist of luck, no one should have to suffer such a death. For just as he was about to grab her and take her to safety, the orphanage, the whole world and the depths of hell itself crashed down on him.

Hey.

Wake up.

There is still much to do.

...

Are you content with such an ending?

With all this.

No?

Then stand.

You are weak.

Worthless.

A zero.

But because you are zero, you can become anything.

I will grant you his power, and you will become part of my flesh and blood.

Who am I?

A friend.

Do you accept?

Good boy.

You have my blessing.

If one had to describe this, one could only call the situation a miracle. Of all twenty-seven residents of the orphanage, that single man had survived. His body had been horribly disfigured by the flames, but somehow he had managed to cushion himself between another body. Someone had taken the brunt of the flames, but he had survived. And now, that man was staring blankly at a blindingly white ceiling of a blindingly white room.

Of all people, he had to survive. But while his body indeed lived, his mind had surely died. It had been hours since he woke up, and his body was still as limp and inert as when they got him, aside the occasional movement of his pupils. He didn't cry, moan or make any noise, as if he was truly dead. And yet, his pulse was real.

The nurses left to do some check ups, overwhelmed by their massive workload lately. When they came back to his room, he was gone.

Garou XIII

Garou just snickered at that justice league wannabe like it was the funniest thing ever. Honestly, this was just too good. He finally had grade A material to work with, and while interrupting a monologue wasn't normally his style, this was a special occasion.

So instead he just grinned and butted into his speech with a mocking sarcastic tone, like he was laughing at his face.

"Aw, c'mon mister her, no need to pull that sword out of your ass for my sake! Don't you have more wity quips at your disposal you half assed boyscout? Like, well... dunno, something like Justice, Justice, Justice or I shall cleanse your evil from this world or Taste my sword! Hyahahahahaha!! *siiigh* But seriously do you have ANY creativity at all!?"

Theodore

Theodore shrugged. "Do you have anything in mind?" He asked, unsure of what to do or where to go next.

Greyskull The Count

The skeleton pondered for a while, rubbing his jaw. He nodded before answering his subject's inquiry.

"Indeed. I must ask, that bone armour of earlier, what exactly is it?" He asked, still showing traces of his cheerful personnality yet clearly firm in his question. It didn't seem like he would take a vague answer.

Kuro

"Where do you think you're going?" She called out to Corbin as she noticed him trying to sneak away through the corner of her eye. For all his talk the guy was a coward. Mordred on the other hand was really jumping the gun, the spear she had summoned earlier had it's tip starting to glow with green light of all things. She was clearly up for it already. In the end Kuro stayed in her spot, not changing her stance or anything, merely grinning at them, as if she was mocking them.

Archer

Archer gave Shirou an annoyed look, His younger self had missed his point entirely. "That's where your problem lies. You're trying to do it by yourself. You don't have to save Sakura by yourself, rely on others for support, you aren't alone in this." Archer sighed in frustration. "There are people better suited for handling her issues than you are, perhaps you two should seek professional help."

Jeanne

The blonde woman let Sakura hug her and cry as she needed. "There, there. It's going to be alright Sakura. I'm here and so is Shirou and everyone else. Worrying about potentially bad futures won't do you much good"

Shirou Emiya

Shirou sighed, and nodded at Archer. "Of course I've thought of that, but she has to be willing to do it for it to be meaningful. She never wanted to go talk to a therapist back at home about the domestic abuse, and I don't see why this would be different to her."

"I'm at the end of my rope."

Kuro

The white haired girl keept staring at the blonde intently, her eyes never leaving her for a moment , as if taking in the woman's every move. She suddenly turned to Corbin and spoke to him with a smile on her face. "Do you want to die that badly?"

Her answer was succinct and blunt. "No." And she continued to sit in silence. She cared not for where they would go and he could provide food. Movement was not necessary, so there was no reason to go anywhere yet.

Alarice

Alarice looked at the skeleton for a moment. After confirming his seriousness she placed her hands on her sides and the bones reappeared on her body. A clawed hand reached up to stroke the skull of the dragon as she spoke. "They are my inheritance. My prize. The proof of my nobility. These are the bones of the Ahamkara. Those who were ancient when the world was young. When I was a child I was raised with the knowledge about these dragons and when the time came I bargained with it. In exchange for a willing host the Ahamkara provides power and knowledge. Of course, every Chosen is incredibly vulnerable to the whims of their dragon if they prove inadequate, but I do not plan on experiencing such a grand failure of composure again."

Greyskull

The skeletal lord muttered under his breath. "I see..."

Truth be told, this was not an answer he was ready to accept. Perhaps it was because he was familiar with the path of power taken through sacrifice and did not wish her to meet a fate similar to his. Perhaps it was his anger, now incured towards that artifact, living he realized, that had caused her as much harm as he had. Perhaps it was his selfishness, even hypocrisy, but he would not allow his friend to make such a face again.

On that moment, he made a decision. A promise, that even if he had to turn this world into hell he would destroy these accursed bones. Only then would he allow himself to sleep.

The lord gave a lighthearted chuckle and an affectionate pat on the head was offered to the girl. He grinned and said, "The day is still young, perhaps we could do some sightseeing. D-does that sound agreeable?"

Alarice

The blonde blinked at the thunking sound of bone meeting bone. Her look was rather patient and regal once more but there was something that was almost mocking in skull's visage. As if it was aware of Greyskull's disdain for it and was delighted by it. However, Alarice did not show any awareness of it in the slightest. Instead, she was focusing her thoughts on other matters.

If she had not been asleep for so long then it was still possible to make some progress! They had wasted enough time already. "I do not think we have time for leisure, Lord Greyskull. It is time to enforce your authority and consolidate your power. We must establish the limits of your territory and then beat the vagrants within it into submission! Shall we get started?"

Eventually the Lycan stopped chasing her tail just to watch as the creature was being completely beaten back. It couldn't regrow its appendages very quickly (she would know she's eaten one before) and it had yet to make even the slightly dent in either of the other fighters. It was almost boring really. Kind of interesting to see teeth and bone bounce off Breeze's delicious abs and what's his face shoot lasers out of his staff, but it wasn't really a fun fight.

She shifted back into her normal form and stood up before prancing towards the battle. Closing the distance took no time at all and she hopped on top of the main body of the beast as it reverted to its most primal instincts to run and hide as a superior force beat it into submission. "Hey! You should stop bullying it so much. Killing it would be nicer. It's just an animal after all. Don't draw it out for fun."

Well, that didn't actually matter to her. Not really anyways. The fight was just boring, and she wasn't so cruel that she would tell anyone how boring it was to watch them work. That's just mean! Appealing to morals and empathy worked much better. Usually.

Auspicious Breeze

"Eh? Am I bullying it...?" the Chosen asked, stopping what she was doing after taking a step back out of range of a counter-attack. Then she looked back to Oren. "Is this bullying?"

She looked over to Michael, who was fighting still too. "Are we bullying it? Because I don't want to torture the poor thing if that's what we're doing here."

Count Greyskull

"Very well, let u go forth! Together, we shall be an unstoppable force of evil that none dare oppose! Tremble ye mighty and despair! MYAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAH MY BAAAAAAACK!!!" He said, waving dramatically as if to send her off on a mission with pride and elegance and... no this isn't working. Why was his back stuck like  a backwards L?

"Oh god, help. Ah! My back... ow!"

Neighbor Theodore

Well, this date had been a complete failure. "Do you want to ask me something?" He asked, trying to pathetically break the ice like a fat whale.

"I suppose we could play a game to pass the time. Not that I'll win or anything."

Emily

Emily arched her hips up into his touch, just a little, the buzz it sent through her nerves drawing a light moan from her lips. Even so, his words brought a grin to her face.

"Well, that first part certainly sounds fun," Emily mused, bringing her hand a little bit up to tease the head of his length, "But how do you thiNK you'd accomplish that second idea of yours?"

Shirou ran and crawled underneath Numina at the approach of the scary man. Shit, another one? She thought, glaring at him from her hiding hole. the stench emanating from him was stifling, she'd have to sneak attack him somehow to kill him.

She hoped he would go away.

Sakagami Kenzo

Kenzo folded his arms and pouted at the redhaired girl, kinda iffy at the rejection. Normally, he would have backed out and left sulking, but this time was different. He'd have none of that, and after all that happened lately, he didn't feel like feeling bad anymore.

It wasn't like him to be so assertive over trivialities, but he stood his ground for this once.

"It is my buisness, I can't just ignore someone in a pinch like that, what kind of half baked human would I be?" He replied in good humour, answering with a casually cheerful tone. He noticed the little girl was cowering and hiding, which kinda hurt. He didn't like it, but it was fine. He understood, some people were just shy.

Well then, he guessed it would be for the best to break the ice. So he knelt to lower himself to her level and spoke to the child, trying to be as gentle and kind as he could be.

"Come on, don't be scared. I'm not going to eat you or anything, so please let me help. It would mean a lot, and I'm sure I can lend a good hand! You know what they say, a stranger is a friend you just haven't made yet! What do you say missy?"

Shirou glared at him in disapproval as he knelt down to face her, angry that he hadn't left.

Damnit, why can't things just go smoothly?

Come on, don't be scared. I'm not going to eat you or anything, so please let me help. It would mean a lot, and I'm sure I can lend a good hand! You know what they say, a stranger is a friend you just haven't made yet! What do you say missy?"

Shiro had only one response to that offer of peace.

She hissed at him and cowered further.

Gabriel

He laughed and said, "Well, I have my ways, Emily.  I think a demonstration will be in order, by tomorrow morning, you'll realize how true to my word I am."

Gabriel slid a finger inside her hot, wet channel and carefully curved his finger.  He rubbed her upper wall, looking for that most curiously delightful spot.

Duke

The bartender brought out two strawberry sundaes from the kitchen and set them before Liseth and the white haired guy.

Like all things made by the brownies and gnomes, they looked amazing.  There were mounds of vanilla ice cream, fresh, ripe strawberries cut in perfectly sized bites strewn all over the mountains of white cream.  Then homemade strawberry sauce was generously poured over the ice cream followed by whipped cream in proper amounts and a bright red strawberry on top.  With a smile he presented both the white haired guy and Liseth with a spoon each.

"Enjoy," he said, taking the cash with a smile.

Rin

Rin's eyes widened as Duke brought out the strawberry sundaes.  They looked amazing; something that would have rivaled anything that Shirou and Sakura could create.  She stared at them.  She always had a bit of a weakness for sweets, as she had once told Shirou, "I am a girl after all."

Strawberries were perhaps her biggest weakness in this regard.

She bit her lip, shook her head as she remembered the ice cream she had made and Archer's souffles waiting at home.  She took a deep breath, smiled and held out her hand to Liseth and the gorgeous white haired man.

"Hi, I'm Rin.  It's nice to meet you," she said.
