Methuselah
The dark one pondered for a bit then nodded. Yes, it seemed like a satisfactory answer, more than anything he felt like he could understand her a little more. He was truly glad to have met her, it was a fine encounter.
"Hmm, that may be right." He said with a calm smile, taking yet another bite of his sandwich. "However, I think peace is much simpler than that. To live without having to fear for tomorrow, to be able to be at ease and enjoy the meager beams of moonlight under a starry night sky and eat the fruits of one's own labor undisturbed. I think that is the peace that can bring one true happiness."
Methuselah sighed and smiled warmly. My, he did not remember ever sounding so old. But speaking to someone under the cool leaves of an oak tree, to be able to hold this conversation once more, this déjà vu was not so unpleasant. He chuckled, it was almost like he was talking to his old friend again.
"Well, I thought it sounded childish at first myself. No matter how you look at it, there will always be inequalities and injustices in the world. Creation and destruction are balanced forces, no matter what happens, the outcome won't change. But there was a man who truly believed in that childish wish, that even the lowest of devils deserved mercy and compassion, that maybe everyone could be happy."
There was no doubt or hesitation in his words, even if his face turned more grave it did not lose its warm candor. He had seen the same outcome over and over, all stories must eventually end. All achievements, from the most mundane to the greatest accomplishments, were equally insignificant before the final curtain, the darkness that engulfed all into its womb only to birth it once more. The end.
But if everyone is not special, then you can be what you want to be. In that case, he had chosen long ago he would be a hero.
"Of course, I'm not blind. There are beings in this world that cannot be saved, some who would harm others and relish it. As long as such beasts are left unchecked, there can be no peace. But even if this outcome is predestined, there is no shame in believing, that perhaps one day demons and humans will be able to have a friendly rapport. And so I will, and if I can share this happiness that I hold dear to my heart with just a single person, just as that man did, that would be enough."
The dark god grinned suddenly and opened his crimson eyes, then held his hand out to Rafalia.
"So, how about it, friend. Shall we save the world?"
