Even if she expected it, the explanation wasn't easy to swallow, the last words ending it with the finality of a gallows' trapdoor dropping open. Still, she should've seen this coming. Perhaps she shouldn't have asked, but it was too late now. If anything, she was certain she'd be glad later that Rider had closed off the possibility. For now, however, it was another sobering reminder that she was stuck here.
Emily didn't try to return Rider's smile, part of her knowing that any attempt would be half-hearted, and instead took a long drink from her glass to cover it up, for a little while at least. While Rider's effort didn't go unappreciated, she couldn't help but frown a little with the lavender-head's request, unsure how much she'd be willing to share.
"Well, I just got transferred up to the hospital," Emily said after a while, "It won't leave me much time to help out at the local soup kitchen, but I'll definitely be helping more people than I was at the clinic."
