General Discussion / Re: Fate/Extra CCC
« on: May 18, 2013, 01:07:16 AM »
Hmm, so, what actually goes on in CCC? What's the point of it?

Also, what are the different Sakura's like? And Jinako, also?
While I'm not an absolute authority since I can't moon rune, I have played the game to an extent, so I can help clear some of this up. :) Though I'm sure some moon runer is gonna come in and correct me on these things someday, but I think I'm at least 96% correct on stuff. :P
Spoiler for Putting all this into this spoiler tag so I can talk freely: This is just basically how the plot starts, but with some MASSIVE SPOILERS, so open with care:
Basically the MC is going on with their day to day life when they go inside a closet and find Jinako inside.

She also encounters a strange nun. We'll get to her another time. S/he also encounters a fair few notable people from the first game, such as Leo, Shinji, Rin, and Rani.
That same day, the MC finds Sakura ill and takes her to the nurse's office.

Later that evening (or the next day, my memory on the Prologue is a bit fuzzy), the school is attacked by shadow monsters like the ones Dark Sakura summons in Heaven's Feel, and they attack the students. MC sees Shinji get snagged by one of them and flees to the roof. S/he is cornered, but is told by a voice to jump (I think, I cannot moon rune). S/he does, and has something like this happen:

It turns out that their Servant was the one calling out to them (?). They were separated, but the strength of their bond brought them back together. It turns out that the world the MC was in was a fabrication- the real Far Side reveals itself (or something like that).  Now the MC's goal is to figure out what is going on, who is the cause, and the true nature of that fabricated dream world and their separation from their Servant. Connected to all this is a mysterious dungeon known as the Sakura Labyrinth, the portal to which is a large, glowing cherry tree next to the old school building that now serves as the MC's headquarters.

Into this place they must delve to find the answers they seek.
Spoiler for Spoilers here too. Sakura log:
Besides the Nurse Sakura NPC mentioned earlier, there are of course BB and her two Alter Egos, Passion Lip and Meltlilith:

BB herself is a bit of an enigma at this point for me since I'm only at the start of Chapter 4, but she's incredibly interesting regardless. She's the apparent mastermind behind all this (though there may be more sinister forces at work, as revealed in the CCC route), and contacts our Student Council via the BB Channel:

BB herself is playful and mischievous while also being sinister and cruel. Many of the other magi she has found have been tortured for their magic circuits, and is responsible for messing with the minds of Rin, Rani, and later Jinako in such a way that their Secret Gardens must be unlocked to not only progress through the Sakura Labyrinth, but to free the girls themselves as well. Secret Gardens are not limited to these girls however, as the MC's own Servant has one, as do the Alter Egos and even BB herself.

Passion Lip is far more on the Passive side than BB. However, she is somewhat Berserker-like in nature, as she can be rather aggressive when finally provoked into anger. Her attack patterns also resemble those of someone from a Berserker class. She is rather soft spoken and, in a sense, strives for those ideals often associated with being a good housewife. She develops an obsession with the MC due to kindness shown regardless of their gender, and refers to them as her "Prince." She is often harassed by (Green) Archer, and is harassed quite a bit in general, including by Alice and Nursery Rhyme. She acts as a recycle bin of sorts, with bits of junk data being stored in her freakishly large breasts, which causes them to increase in size. In a bad ending, the MC will be turned into a cube and stored in Passion Lip's breasts for the rest of eternity (creepy huh?). In other words, Passion Lip is often docile, soft-spoken and sweet, but quite yandere, and will become quite aggressive regarding certain things revolving around the object of her obsession.

Melty, the last one, I don't know so much about yet since she's a later chapter. She has a very nice voice. She is on the more aggressive side, but has more of a cool personality as far as I can tell- in other words, less hotheaded than Passion Lip could be. Interestingly, if you play with the Archer/Fem MC pairing, she will go yandere over Archer instead of the MC, but will favor the Male MC over Archer if you are using the Archer/Male MC pairing instead.

As for Jinako, she's more than a bit of a hikikomori and tends to hide out in her room on most occasions. Her Servant is Karna (yes, that Karna). He acts as somwhat of a father figure to her, urging her to leave her room, but with not much success. Jinako prefers to stay safe in her room eating various snack foods and playing video games. She is the Number One gaming champion. She is, however, willing to help regardless, and is a valuable member of the MC's team. She's also somewhat silly and definitely very geeky, but she's adorable because of it. :3

And got my copy of Awakening and just beat Chapter 3. I really like this game so far. :3 Plus what people were saying about it being the shipping game of the year were correct, and I'm not even that far in. Plus the gameplay is great. I like tactics RPGs a lot, so that's always a draw for me. Though I do have a question- that Old Man in the main menu before you load up your save. The one that randomly tests ships for you. ...Is anything he says ever accurate?

Well, most MMOS have tiny invs. It's good that there's even a way around it. If you're willing to forgo saving up for a mount, I'd get a Japanese Bobtail or an Orange Pixie. They're only 2,900 nx per kitty. Plus cats. Cats are good. But yeah, just be careful to conserve inventory space, and only keep the essentials with ya until you can get a pet- then dump what essentials you can into its/their inventories.

Now that you've said what you don't like about the game so far, what do you like about the game so far?

Well, yes, I agree with that, but that's kind-of the point I was making. The game just doesn't explain what the hell I'm supposed to be doing at all. If I didn't have you around I wouldn't stand a chance.
Yeah, this game does have a bit of a learning curve at times. ^_^" However, the basic quests you get should be guiding you pretty well for the most part. Then again though, I registered long before talents were even a thing, so it's possible the quests are less straight forward since when I started all those years ago. I should be able to help put you back on the right track. :)

The thing is, pets also cost money. And, as I pointed out, otherwise you have far too little inventory space.
Sorry, I meant to imply that with the mount thing, since they're also pets. But yeah, having a pet is pretty handy. For now though, the key is to discard unnecessary things. I can help you with that.

Quote
Well, yes, but that requires you to have money (which I don't have), and it also takes time (dunno how much), which means you can't access it when you actually need it.
...This is true. This is why I tend to rely on my pet invs quite a bit to be honest. However, it is nice that you have a place to store things. My advice is to take the stuff you use often with you, and stuff that you might not need all the time goes in the bank. And get a pet.

Quote
Well, yeah, the problem is that you're not around most of the time. Plus, when you are around I end up doing the more advanced stuff because you aren't going to want to follow me doing the beginners stuff....

Also, I have done a bunch of quests, and even several of the beginner quests (notably I have done the Elf quest about spying on the Giants). The thing is that I keep going around looking for more stuff to do and running into all these different things.

The thing is that the game doesn't make any of this at all clear. I got to level 10 without even trying, and then just started doing stuff with my homestead. Further, it doesn't explain how I'm supposed to get any of these skills and do things.
Oh trust me, I won't mind doing some of the noob stuff again. ...I just started playing again recently and need some refreshers myself. It was apparently more straightforward with the quests in my day. ^_^" I can help you get on the right track. :) Plus I should be on much more often after this Tuesday. :)

Yeah, it does seem that way. I think I've found one alchemy quest already, I just screwed up with my weapon.

Again, the problem is that the game doesn't tell you any of this. It just let me pick that particular style (also, it wasn't battle alchemy, but transmutation) without any warning about how damn hard it is to practice it....
...yeah, they should have explained that alchemy was a bit more advanced. :( It does tell you some stuff though, you mostly have to follow quests. I think half the problem is that it's giving you some quest overload, something it didn't used to do back when I was first playing. Again, I can help you with that.

Well, yeah, sure. The problem is that getting hold of NX is only going to get harder.
Not necessarily. :) There's always gonna be crapware to download for NX after all~ :3 Really, if the free NX fountain has sputtered out for anyone it's me, since I'm stuck with taking surveys and the safer free offers and those are starting to sputter out for me.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense.

My main point is that it seems to me like there is no way to play the game long-term without paying. That isn't overly surprising, but it does make me wary of getting involved.
It's actually not nearly as bad as a lot of other cash shop MMOs that are Pay to Win. You definitely get some inconvenience without having a mount, sure, but the game is still quite playable and you still stand a fair chance against the other players. The inventory stuff is pretty typical for most MMORPGs, but in this case you can at least get around it with pets. In most others you just have to pray that you can sell your stuff soon, or just deal with a full inventory.

Only because you're new at it and don't know what you're doing just yet- the other thing is that you're focusing on the homestead for now primarily, which does take a lot of skills.

There's a reason I implied that I should be with you to help you at first. The money's only relevant if you really want the bestest homestead evah or if you want a mount. The latter of which is pretty handy, but not nessisary, especially if you have friends with mounts. Pets are potentially a good idea for the inv space.

You're wrong about the banks though. I told you before, you can get your stuff from any bank, but it can take a fee and a set period of time for it to transfer.

As for the needing the basic life skills? Not really. I think your problems are twofold:
1. You aren't focusing on quests, but your homestead. This means you're neglecting things that require combat in favor of more domestic things. Really, the homestead is meant for more of a late game thing. Again, this is really why you need my help, sometimes it doesn't just do it to jump in and try to tackle it yourself.

2. Your talent is alchemy. Alchemy is one of the harder combat styles to learn and use. This quest set will help quite a bit, trust me.  Otherwise, if it turns out to be more unpleasant, experiment with other combat styles, and upon your next rebirth, change your talent to that style of combat.

As for your alchemy cannon... yeah, again, you should have done that while I was there, I could have told you that dropping stuff on the ground on the Homestead or the Beauty Shop then leaving is a bad idea.

So really, other than taking my advice in investing your next set of NX in one or more pets (since you're gonna end up having far more of it than I ever did in the end ^^"), your main problem is that you've been trying to tackle stuff that's more advanced by yourself instead of starting out slow, and thus you need a guide. So my advice? Let me help you before you jump to conclusions about the game.

The spoiler tag/image issue has been resolved, so feel free to put that in spoiler tags if you so wish. :D

Also, that drawing's extremely well done. Keep up the good work!  ;D

So yeah, since a few of us have gotten into this game, I'd figure I'd make a thread.  ;D I had fond memories of it from my early college days, and playing it again I'm enjoying it. :) So yeah, discuss, brag about your homesteads, ask for tips and advice, etc.

Just as a note, despite the fact that this is in the anime and manga section, you guys are free to talk about the games in here as well, so we don't have to make two separate threads. :)

And as noted elsewhere, Season Three was my favorite, though I have warm fuzzies from the first two as well, as well as somewhat from Four (that epilogue at the end of Season 2 though... bleh).

Video Games / Fire Emblem Megathread
« on: May 14, 2013, 08:48:24 PM »
So yup, talk about any and all of the Fire Emblem games in here! I'll be getting a copy of Awakening pretty soon, so I should be able to contribute to the discussion very soon.  ;D Though I do have the Fire Emblem game that was released on the Game Cube (or one of them at least), and remember that I was more paranoid than normal about losing units since their losses are permanent, but still had fun regardless. :3

So let the conversations begin!

Video Games / Re: General MMO thread
« on: May 14, 2013, 08:44:54 PM »
I am very persuasive you see.  :3 But yeah, despite being as old as it is, it holds up pretty well, plus it's still very unique from other MMOs, since it's pretty much the only one I'm aware of that does what it does with combining domestic elements with combat elements to the extent that it does. :) Plus the combat system has a bit more of an active spin than most "click skill, attack, rinse and repeat" mmos, but is still different enough from more action RPGish MMOs to still feel unique in the combat system. :) Plus you get your own little Homestead at lvl 10 where you can build and place various useful things, so that's nice as well.

Video Games / General MMO thread
« on: May 11, 2013, 04:15:53 AM »
So yeah, if you generally want to talk about various MMOs without making an individual thread for them, this is where you go. I've been playing Mabinogi and Neverwinter somewhat recently. Mabi still holds up for me surprisingly enough, despite how old it is- I've been having fun with it. Neverwinter... I haven't played very far yet, but I don't like how the controls are set up. I've just started playing though, and I managed to get the cursor mode set to right mouse click, so we'll see what my opinion is.

So anybody want to talk about those or any other MMOs?

Visual Novels / General Otome Game thread
« on: May 11, 2013, 04:00:43 AM »
Since we have a few female users, I'd figure I'd make this thread (though you boys are welcome to join in as well  ;D). Since the general visual novel thread is likely going to be filled with bishoujo games for the most part, I figured I'd make a separate thread for otome. So talk about them in here! (threads for individual games if there's enough room to discuss them are fine too, btw).

Well...from what I heard, the first version of Mew was inserted into the game without even Nintendo knowing about it. Maybe his design was also made on the spot? Which is why its different from Mewtwo's? Then again, this is only on the development side...

As for setting, if not urban fantasy, then alternate history or AU could be interesting. :)
Magic system...I prefer the high-fantasy one.
Actually, Mewtwo isn't referred to as a clone in game, only in the anime. :) Granted, it's for the wrong reason (apparently the term was too "scary"), but it's not in the game at least. :) But yeah, I think they designed the two side by side and just snuck mew in there without Nintendo knowing it. In terms of the science stuff, it's mostly ignorance on their part though. ^_^"

As for the recent story stuff.. I need to think on it more. Although, I want a few more people to say something about the genre to confirm if this is the path we want before pinning anything down.
