Lycodrake Aptera

One did not survive as a mortal messenger of a deity, favored and blessed or not, and remain ignorant to reading between the lines. "You are wise in your choice of words, Bellatanus, which is both commendable and troublesome. Answer truthfully: do you see me as a dragon or not? If dragon, then I see no reason to not partake in blood barter, but if not...we will have to part ways on sour terms. I am not ignorant of the wordplay of politicians and royalty, and I was taught to be wary of demons and fae alike for similar reasons."

He noted William doing something, but ignored the details. He met Bellatanus' gaze with his own.

"Well, you're not wrong, William. Any information would be better than no information..." There wasn't much else to say, though, because he also found Bellatanus' reasaoning sound.

Oh, well if Bellatanus knew of one and was willing to guide them in exchange for a favor, that was simple. "Hm. What would the general idea of this favor be, Bellatanus?" He was not so foolish as to completely trust the regal woman. For all the signs she gave as being at least mostly neutral, neutrality rarely remained when dealing with a person in power, imagined or actual - you were either for them or against them. He would prefer not making enemies, but he would not be shaken out of his morals so easily.

...holding the glass forward to the unknown one in front of him. “My apologies for my friend you met earlier. I’m William. Might I offer you a glass of wine?” A few things seemed different about the person who left and had now rejoined. Of note, he was actually smiling, his eyes had gained a twinkle about them. As for his posture, he was relaxed, open, and seemed different from when he had left.
"And am Bellitanus. However, I'm afraid that I must decline your offer. I rarely drink unless it's with a meal. It clouds the mind much more without one."
The wingless one supposed that William had decided to have an attitude adjustment of sorts, perhaps to avoid being rude to someone of obvious power. Referring to a different attitude as a "friend" was not normal human behavior, though. Or perhaps William suffered some manner of lunacy? Odd. He couldn't begrudge it, but he would be careful in the future. William was still a stranger in many ways.

"Ah, welcome back, William. Miss Bellatanus thinks we have no guarantee that a library's information would be helpful for Nexus at large, and I must agree. Both your and my worlds are vastly different and it would follow that Nexus is even more an amalgamation in places than the residents. Your thoughts?" The least he could do was ask William's opinion, especially since - if Bellatanus was absolutely correct - he had wasted the young man's time.

An awkward silence fell between the two, but he could tell that he was under inspection - her eyes tracked the movement of his tail as it lazily swayed. The warmth fled the area in seconds and he was left shivering and suspicious. She was the origin of the heat that had covered the small area, so what led her to ceasing it? Though he considered asking, he digressed. Warmth in this cold was a comfort and not an absolute need, as in more extreme low temperatures.

"Well met, lady Bellitanus. My name is Lycodrake Aptera, courier for Athena Nike." He dipped his head in a relative approximation of a bow for a quadruped.

He watched William leave, confused how and why the lady had disturbed the young man. He paid attention to her words, and felt loss at the lack of warmth from her flame. "I am glad to be capable of communicate with other species. Your points are well received, thank you for the advice. I can not say I know William well, for we have only traveled together less than a morning's time, but I think Nexus is a drastic change compared to his home world. Not that that excuses him from being passive aggressive." The wingless one shook his head. He knew a being that treated passive aggressiveness as natural interaction, and it had never helped.

The wave of heat washed over him and he was certain, were he able, he would have purred in contentment. Warmth was a comfort he preferred to not live without. He settled for sitting down and wrapping his tail somewhat around a leg, unashamed that the tip was swaying as though in time with a lullaby "Ah, yes, that would make sense. If Nexus truly is a managerie of worlds drawn together, then the information in any library would be limited at best. I had not thought of it like that, thank you for that insight."

He was rather impressed at the control over fire magic the noble exhibited, and thankful for the warmth, too.

As to her question, he wasn't really certain how to reply. He knew several non-human beings capable of speech that defied physiology, insofar that they had no absolutely true physical form. His friend Marie Al'miraj, for one, and most deities, to name but a fraction. "Ah, I apologize, my meaning was unclear. By my upbringing, I mean that I grew up around and was raised amongst the civlized beings, unlike all but one of my siblings. Perhaps it is an oddity on my home world? Or perhaps our worlds' dragons and other sentient, non-humanoid beings have different physiology?"

He was not expecting to be approached by a black-haired human of significant beauty. On inspection, her hair almost had a gradient between black and purple. Her clothes were both like and quite unlike the Nexus natives he had encountered, given the white fur coat yet normal leggings and shirt. However, her eyes were what drew most of his attention; while his own had an amethystine gray, hers were a vibrant purple. The slitted pupil paused his thoughts for a second, but he had seen stranger eyes. Her composure spoke of high-standing in society and, given her question, he had to wonder if the upper class of Nexus were very well aware of being such as himself.

Speculation aside, it would not do for him to not answer. "Greetings to you as well, lady. I most certainly am a drake, insofar that I am a draconic being. As for language, I would have to point to my upbringing for my capacity with speech. Most of my brethren are incapable or communicate as beasts rather than in speech or symbols."

He made a note that his traveling companion had access to fire magic before responding. "That's the idea, yes. I'm just hoping that whoever or whatever runs the nearest library is neutral, at least."

He glanced at William, continuing to plod along the sidewalk. "Back home I had my own personal collection of books, tomes, and scrolls - mostly maps, really. Some described it as a library. I don't know if it's because I'm, well, a dragon or just a natural thing, but I certainly didn't want anyone messing with them."

He was teased by some for doing so, given his "adopted by Athena Nike" status - "what's the point when your matron goddess is so wise" - but one does not lightly get between a dragon and its hoard. The wingless one would deny it to be as such, though. Hoarding usually included greed and murderous intent upon "invaders", if he got to define it, and he liked to think that being greedy and murderous was at the very end of things he planned to do on a daily basis.

"Ideas as to how to get out of the Nexus? None outside of theories and guesswork. There's all sorts of stories I've heard from residents that know of no world but this one, but they're vague and gave me the feeling of superstition." The two continued walking in the general direction of the library he had heard about.

"I can't exactly replicate what brought me here, though there's a chance of an entity of chaos around here. Even then, the one at home is, and can be trusted to be, a trickster more often than not." He shook his head, "But that's quite a bit off topic. Either way, a library would be immensely helpful. Maps and some sort of historical record would be the most helpful, though the former is partially a personal favorite."

He kept walking as he reminisced, anti-depression mantra echoing in his thoughts as he replied. "I don't know what sort of world you come from, but I lived in 'the glorious city' - Athens. While I like people and the main portions of the city offered ample amount, I made my home in a rock quarry on the outskirts. At least in the warm months, that is. I grew up and was raised there...before I stumbled into Nexus, I was trying to recover something extremely important to someone close to me. The one who raised me."

His stance drooped a bit in melancholy. "I'm meaning to find a way back. What about you?"

26
Lycodrake Aptera

"It does, yes." The dragon turned away from the young human, "Well, I know the general vicinity of where the library is. I'm sure it will at least be recognizable from a distance. 'You'll know it when you see it' was what I've been told."

That having been said, William would probably know what a library in this type of city would look like.

Lycodrake Aptera

"I certainly don't mind. Company tends to help retain sanity, and honestly wandering around the streets of Nexus and repeatedly letting the humans know that I'm not going to hurt them without reason - and that my reasons are based on morality - has been monotonous." He tapped a talon on the ground. "Well, I have heard there are several libraries, but I'm not sure which one to look for. I would personally look for maps, at least."

28
Lycodrake Aptera

"Ah, nice to meet you, William. I suppose I am."

"Sadly no. What information I've gathered has been from local residents. I'm sure you would be more welcomed, since you appear human and are garbed like most around Nexus." The wingless one tilted his head, "though I admit you don't react to my being, well, draconic, so you might be 'obviously an outsider' to them. I can't say I know."

"I have been considering looking for a library to see if there are any accurate maps of the city."

Lycodrake Aptera

"Well, you're currently on the snow-dusted streets of Nexus City. If you're a newcomer, then you have your work cut out for you answering all the questions you could think up. All I can really say is that Nexus City is much more than a simple city, there's people and creatures from all sorts of places, and some are friendly, hostile, or neutral to newcomers. Kinda depends." Details and theories the dragon might have would just be an additional burden of information upon someone else, really, so he refrained from sharing the guesses and ideas.

"My name is Lycodrake Aptera. What's your's? If you don't mind me asking."

Today was turning out to be rather eventful - a second young human had crossed his path. A young man with black hair, tall enough that he almost had to tilt his head up to meet eyes. He wasn't oblivious to the human's unraised arm being covered in some sort of contraption. Or maybe it was a prosthetic? Asking would be rude, though. "Oh, hello. Good morning. What may I do for you?"
