Eh, while the forum is in it's infancy userbase wise necroing isn't such a big deal, I'm starting up a new thread anyway. Plus I wanted a designated megathread for sure, so I figured we'd start up a new thread in honor of X and Y just being released.
So yeah, anime adaptations, the main games and any spin off games, manga, the card game, etc, they're all fair game in here. If you want to ask people to trade with you or fight against you and things, that's cool too. Giving your friend codes and such is cool too.
I'll get the ball rolling with a certain dilemma I'm having. ...I just got X today and can't decide on a starter. I can't decide between Disco Frog and Fire Fox. Help meee.
-
Did you play Gen one? Which starter is your favorite? This is important for helping with the starters bit
-
Nah, I already know which one of the Kanto starters I want (since I played Red, Blue and Yellow when I was itty bitty), it's the new starters I'm having trouble with. Specifically, I'm trying to choose between Fennekin and Froakie (the ones I referred to as "Fire Fox" and "Disco Frog" respectively).
-
In my experience with the game (I also own X) fire fox is the winner because she gets psychic secondary typing and a huge sp atk stat (typical of a mage) she would especially be useful for having Venusaur as a secondary starter although I myself picked squirtle. Fire fox has an easier time because she isn't weak to the new fairy type
-
Hmm, so that's one vote for FireFox, and got another vote in that direction elsewhere too. May go with Firefox then. Any objections? :3
-
She's the win. Also for clarification I have all eight badges and am raising eevee atm.
-
By the way, if people want my friend code, just give me a shout out in here, and I'll probably PM it to you. Unless people think there should be a specific thread for friend codes and stuff on top of this thread, in which case, I'll go ahead and make it.
Also, while I'm here, anyone got a female eevee kicking around that they wouldn't mind trading? In addition to whatever Pokemon is used as trade material, I'll also give you one or more of the eevees I get out of leaving them at the daycare. ....I have two male eevees, and I can try catching more on route 10, but it takes forever, so it's easier to just breed them. ^_^"
-
Alrighty, no need for the eevee anymore, Milbunk was kind enough to trade me a ditto, so I can just breed more eevees from that. Speaking of which... I can now breed squirtles for people who chose something else for their Kanto starter. Same for fennekin (though that was never a problem to begin with since mine was always female to begin with).
So yeah, in other words, if anyone has a specific request for a trade or if you want to battle or something, just say something in here.
-
I don't do the battle and trade thing, haven't done it since Gen one. I believe that in trading Pokemon unavailable in the game it removes the challenge and uniqueness of that game. Nevertheless I do like to provide information where I can so with as few spoilers as possible here goes.
1) Shauna will meet you in the post game and trade you an egg with her starter in it, this means if you want to have a full water, grass, fire wheel pick the Kanto starter Serena's partner matches.
2) a party of six combee is your best bet for completing the pokedex as a great number of Pokemon in the wild are the second and third stage. First get a strong combee and have the other five tagging along, it's best that they are all male and all possess the gather honey ability. Get into weak battles and check your Pokemon every two or three fights, usually anywhere from two to five of the combee will be holding honey, this allows you to stock pile honey to attract hordes of Pokemon and capture low stage Pokemon like Mareep on route twelve.
3)with the new super training breeding is a recommended use of your time, be sure to catch the new bird Pokemon fletchling as it evolutionary stage as talon flame often has flame body which cuts the egg cycles in half.
4) use the master ball of the version Pokemon, all the other special Pokemon are in caves and dusk balls work fine.
5) Lapras has a unique surf sprite and can learn waterfall, surf and strength, farfetched can learn cut and fly, with these two in your party your other Pokemon can concentrate on battling the baddies.
6) the number of thuder stones is limited and mareep gets a mega evolution, fot this reason think hard which Pokemon you want to evolve with a thunder stone. I recommend eevee.
7)scouring the routes leads to rewards in the form of awesome Pokemon. There's a ton in this game despite the list of new Pokemon being low.
-
Actually, you have a shot at getting more thunder stones in the super secret training regimens from the Super Training. You have to do pretty well timewise to get them, but with enough practice, it should work.
The session's name is "Follow Those Fleeing Goals!" The other training sessions of that type also have a chance to give the other types of stones depending on what the session is. I recommend designating a pokemon you're really good with for the Super Training to farm for stones if you're ever low.
And for an extra bit of advice besides what I just said? Get a god damn fairy type. A good one, like Florges or Gardevoir. Otherwise expect to be squashed by people's Goodras in link battles. I just learned this the hard way. ^_^"
Oh! Also, you'll need this if you want to exploit Lumoise City for all it's worth:
http://www.serebii.net/xy/lumiosestyle.shtml (http://www.serebii.net/xy/lumiosestyle.shtml)
-
Well yes but I was referring to the ones you find in traditional Pokemon fashion. Thunder stones are rare given that you can buy fire, water and leaf stones.
And something of an update, now replaying X with Chespin, he has likely the best move pool of any grass starter. As for the fairy type both for and against its called neutral play, super effective is great but fenikin is a great example with it's fire/psychic type. It's weakness's are covered by neutrals. There's only two Pokemon I've seen that stop her, houndoom and frokies dark/water typing, two of 600 odd Pokemon is rather great, especially with her basic speed and special attack stats
-
Hate to double post but more tips.
first of all the best starter is feniken with chespin is second and frokie as a distant third. There's plenty of water types in the kalos region (beyond just picking squartle) and grass Pokemon caught early on like oddish are far more stable then our grass starter. While there's a lot of fire types feniken is the clear winner for its strong dual typing and exceptional stat growth in speed and sp atk.
fenikin helps in basically every gym and story battle, even against elite four water Pokemon it's decent.
starting tips.
Get a fletchling, they eventually become talonflame a fire flying Pokemon with flame body. It's good for egg hatching and it can be given fly as a utility as well as being a decent fighter on it's own and as a flying Pokemon can be used in sky battles.
get caterpie, it becomes butterfree. Nuff said.
get six Zigzagoon all with pick up, you may have to save and restart the game a few times.
train you party of feniken, caterpie, fletchling, zigzagoonX3 all to level ten before seeing the tutorial about catching Pokemon. Remember to check the status of your Pokemon as the zigzagoon trio will collect items when barehanded. This will get you free great and ultra balls as well as a bunch more items for free.
-
I have more to say but is anyone listening? I feel like I'm talking to a brickwall
-
Well, I just recently obliterated the Elite Four with one Pokemon (with just one or two switches to Blaziken during the Steel one). Go Go Jiraiya! Anyhow, I'll be working my way to get the post-game stuff; got Mewtwo already in fact.
I'll also be breeding eggs of some of my Pokemon (since I now have a Ditto), so if anyone needs a Froakie, Fennekin, Charmander, Bulbasaur or Torchic, well I'll try and hatch one.
-
I could use a bulbasaur and a froakie for sure I think. I'll poke you over Skype when I'm ready.
I actually let myself fall behind you a bit. :P Not too far though, I'm just one more badge, one Elite Four wipe, and one Mewtwo catchin' behind ya. ...By the way, have you tried the Friend Safari yet? I'm curious what mine's type is. :3
-
Haha, I'll go hatch them.
As for the Friend Safari, yeah, I've tried it (got a few good Pokes over there, like Chansey and Ivysaur). Yours is Ghost-type by the way (mine's Flying I've been told.)
-
Eh, how does that work? Is it random or something?
-
@KAIZA: Ah, OK. :3 ...how oddly appropriate. :< And I can confirm whether yours is flying type or not once I get to the Friend Safari myself.
@Cherry: Yeah, as far as I know it's either random or based off your Friend Code. Someone else may be able to provide a more definitive answer though, at least until I look it up.
-
Yeah, kinda. Each Friend Code is assigned a Type (don't know how it's determined, so random) and from there, a set of two (three if they have beaten the game) Pokemon from separate pools (one for each) for that type, at random.
The Type and Pokemon assigned will always be the same for that Friend Code for everyone, so to maximize the Safari's usefulness (and trust me, there are some good Pokemon only obtainable there), it's good to have as many friends registered as possible.
EDIT: Here's some more info on it (http://www.serebii.net/xy/friendsafari.shtml).
-
I don't see the point of the friend safari. I mean it is a neat feature but it comes in the post game and frankly between the sheer amount of Pokemon in the game and the frankly tiny amount of stuff to do post game don't see it being very useful.
-
Can you not use it before you've completed the game?
-
Nope, can't use it until you beat the Elite Four. People can still access yours though, so long as they've beaten the Elite Four themselves. Like KAIZA said, it helps to have lots of friends registered.
...I need more friend codes. Moar I say. :<
And as for post game stuff, there's plenty from what I understand. There's the Looker stuff and the Battle Institute bare minimum. Plus battling with friends, etc.
-
Friend battling isn't in game content. And as I recall the battle institution is set up to replicate competitive battling which I find a waste of time.
the looker bit is there but in relation to Gen five there's far less to do.
-
I don't see the point of the friend safari. I mean it is a neat feature but it comes in the post game and frankly between the sheer amount of Pokemon in the game and the frankly tiny amount of stuff to do post game don't see it being very useful.
The point of the Friend Safari (which is basically the game's Safari Zone) is, as always, to get Pokemon not normally available in the wild. It's also the only way to catch the other Kalos/Kanto starters you might be missing (all their second stages have a chance of appearing) without trading.
And, yes, it's post-game only. But hey, one of the goals of the games is to collect all the Pokemon (available), so there's that too.
Also, from what I've read, there's data for three more legendary Pokemon in the game, so there will probably be some downloadable event for each of them.
There's also the Battle Maison, the Battle Chateau, which includes rematches with the Gym Leaders, the extra legendaries like Mewtwo, Z-Guy (can't remember name) and the Kanto birds, hunt for Mega Stones, getting the customization items...
-
Hmm, speaking of Mega Stones, I can't seem to get the guy in Lumoise City to refresh his wares so I can get me some Charizardite X. Do I have to defeat the Elite Four to have him start switching his wares? I want my awesome charizard to be even more awesome darn it.
-
From what I read, those three stones (for the Kanto starters) are sold on specific dates. I'd have to look to confirm this. Give me a sec.
-
Since you guys are insisting this stuff is amazing can anyone tell me where to find my friend code? I just spent ten minutes getting my 3ds connected to the internet
-

Go to the menu, at the top, the square icon with a smiley face. That's the Friend's List. There should be a card in that menu with your Friend Code.
-
Had to make a mii or whatever but I have it and the torchic from mystery gift. Are we putting the codes up or pming them?
-
Well, if you want to post your code, there's this thread:
http://darksidemoon.net/SMF_forum/index.php/topic,176.0.html (http://darksidemoon.net/SMF_forum/index.php/topic,176.0.html)
-
I'd prefer to swap by pm actually but thank you for the information kaiza. As for the games themselves. Anyone else with torchic find him really really over powered?
also what's with the lack of false swipe users? I've found like two scyther and Zangoose
-
Wonder trade is amazing and hilarious
-
Well, it's Torchic with its Hidden Ability plus a Mega Evolution, and since it counts as traded, it levels up faster. It's supposed to be broken (at least get it for the Blazikenite, though). The traded thing could act as a limiter, though; too many levels and it won't obey you.
Also, consecutive fishing. Lots and lots of consecutive fishing. The patience required to keep a perfect streak...on the other hand, I finally managed to catch enough shinies to trade for my missing legendaries. Now all that's left is to catch Zygarde and Moltres. :P
-
I'm using my Y as a nuzlocke copy and my X as an index slash breeding copy. So if anyone can help with the older Gen Pokemon that'd be great. Oh and Kaiza mind if I get your FC?
-
Well, for older Gen Pokemon not available in the game, you'll have to wait until they release Pokemon Bank and the PokeTransporter so we can actually bring our old Pokemon into the game.
Oh, and my FC is 4339-2727-9146.
-
Actually it would seem as long as you have a 3ds you can trade forward and I actually have black and white one and two and can get diamond and pearl as well as the Gen two remakes
-
Uh, no. They already announced it (http://www.serebii.net/xy/poketransporter.shtml). Released December 31 with a free 30-day trial. (http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/10/05/how-to-transfer-your-old-pokemon-to-x-y)
And it's only compatible with Black and White/Black 2 and White 2. So, for older than that, you have to transfer them to B/W(2) and then into the Bank. Then you can transfer them to X/Y.
-
Well Japan already has it then because I've seen X and Y trade requests for Pokemon that aren't available in the games like cyndiaquil mudkip, rhisram and the god what's it.
-
No, no, you got it wrong.
Just because you can't transfer them yet doesn't mean the data isn't in the game. Also remember that now you can ask for any Pokemon on the GTS, not just the ones you've seen.
Thus, you can look for them, or ask for them, but nobody will have them. They're basically impossible trades for now.
-
I can't seem to ask for anything not in game. I want a fucking cyndiaquil.
oh, I've never has pokerus before, someone what to explain how I spread it? I want all the double exps and be able to give the exps and effort to others
-
When selecting the Pokemon you want, at the bottom of the list, there should be an option that says "What Pokemon?". You write the name of the Pokemon you want. This way you can look for Pokemon you haven't seen yet (like, say, Xerneas for Y).
Though, like I said, since nobody can transfer yet, you won't find any.
As for Pokerus, I don't know how it works exactly, all I've heard is that it spreads to any Pokemon in the same box as the infected one. Might have to check.
-
Got a Japanese charmander with the rus. Also an eevee pair from different countries so shiny eevees everywhere.
-
OK, checked. It spreads by having the Pokemon in your party during battles; there's a chance it'll infect the Pokemon around it (the ones in the slots before and after it) after a battle. The PC thing is to keep the virus, since it won't go away if the Pokemon is in the box.
-
Awesome, thanks
-
So...do you think it's foolish to keep soft-resetting for a shiny Zygarde?
-
Honestly... not at all. :3 Gotta get them shinies.
-
If the shiny is vastly different or leads to a vastly different colour scheme in a later stage then yes, if not then no.
-
:-[ So guess what?
Pokemon Bank freakin' finally hit the American eShop. And with that, Pokemon Bank is now available in all regions!
-
Finally! Seriously, that took way too long. Isn't there something about a free Celebi too that you can get through the bank?
-
Yes there is!
Use the bank at least once (you also get free PokeMiles or Battle Points, your choice), use Pokemon Link to get those, then go back to use the Bank again and you get a Free Lv. 10 Celebi for your game!
-
Oh hells yes~ This helps make up for all the waiting they made us do. ^^"
-
I have 2 Virizion but I would really, really, really like one with 3+ivs. I'm willing to trade a legendary or two for one. ;~;
I now have 704 Pokemon caught/seen for the National Dex in my Y version!~ :)
The only non-Legendary I'm missing is Porygon2. Don't need no Porygon2 no more. :P
Also just got a Lugia.
[edit 4]
-
Double-posting. XP
I now have 6 Virizions. I might be obsessed if it weren't for the fact that none of them have above 2IVs.
...that and most, if not all, 6IV Virizion seem to be Jolly - i.e. physical attackers. I prefer mixed. ;w;
-
T-t-triple post. C-c-combo breaking or something here. :P

I'll PM you mine
Also I got X and beat it in like a week, Elite 4 suck ass, XP share borken, Goat pokemon too cool for school
Also Pidgeot nicknamed "Smellingbutt", my greatest accomplishment.
-
Hmm, that reminds me, do I have Lyco's friend code? We might need to trade them too if that's not the case. :)
-
Smellingbutt is indeed a glorious name, Nachos. And Gogoat is superb!
Hmm, that reminds me, do I have Lyco's friend code? We might need to trade them too if that's not the case. :)
I have your's filed on my 3DS (4897-6188-5396, right?), but here's my FC for you, Revy! 2809-9065-7781
FREE 5+IV MAWILE WITH FIRE FANG FOR THE BOTH OF YOU
-
There we go, added on my end~ :3
And yay! :D ...though I need to get to a savepoint in Bravely Default first before I can switch it back to Pokemon X to get it. ^^"
EDIT: There we go, now you got me registered in full. :) Just tell me when, and I'll switch games.
-
Whenever you're ready to trade, Revy!~
-
Ooh, ooh, am I not too late for one too? :3
-
Ooh, ooh, am I not too late for one too? :3
I thought for sure I had gifted you with one already, but hey, no worries; I have enough to give you one, too. :3
-
My memory is a very fickle thing. No, really I forget lots of things. But thank you. :3
-
Now works~ :3 ...though as fair warning, I probably don't have anything worth too much to trade back. ^^"
-
That is a Mystery Egg! It's a Mystery which Pokemon it hatches into!
Mostly because I've forgotten what it was...
I think it's from one of my IV breeding attempts...
Was that a shiny Nidoking?
-
Thanks for the would-be tank dragon Megatronette, Revy! :D
Was that a shiny Nidoking?
Why yes, yes it was. I also have a Shiny Virizion (Artee's gift), Pho the Shiny Pangoro (my first Kalos Shiny), and a Shiny Rayquaza.

If not, I'll probably need to clone more...

Thank you Lyco! :D
You're welcome, Revy - it wasn't a problem at all, and I'm glad to see my precious Mawiles go to good homes.

Suicune is actually one of my favorites from Kanto-Johto. :3
May I ask what its Nature and IVs are? I don't mind if it doesn't have IVs, of course, but I'm still curious.
-
I don`t have any shinies...
Feels batman

Maybe clone one of the Time-Space duo when you can and I'll get back to you? ;w;

No, don't worry. If I find a more worthy Pokemon, I'll trade it to you. :)
Though it reminded me of the Shiny Palkia I had to leave behind damn you PokeBank...
-
Want the Shiny Nidoking?
Nah, I`m good. Keep it.
For now I must go and grind Dittos for Dittos with maxed IVs
And I don`t have a friend safari with ditto, meaning this will take a while.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire -- November 2014! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywGSON9tNq0#ws)
Hoenn confirmed. :V
-
MUH NOSTALGIA!!
Alpha it is for me! :3
-
I hope they bring back secret bases, those were awesome. :3
...Hmm, also, Sapphire was the version I had (due to my birthstone being a sapphire. ...yes, that was my logic for it back then :V) but then, KAIZA's also getting Sapphire, and I want maximum trading potential. What do? :<
-
Pick whichever you want. I mean, it's not like I have almost every Pokemon species there is (including Hoenn's) and can trade them over from Y and give to others for MAXIMUM TRADING.
-
Hmm, true~ :3
Sapphire it is then for maximum nostalgia.
-
I also had sapphire, when I was but a child. A child with a guide.
COME TO ME, GUIDE. IT IS TIME TO RISE FROM YOUR HIDING SPOT UNDER THAT COPY OF CIAPHAS CAIN: HERO OF THE IMPERIUM. TELL ME WHICH POKES COME WITH WHICH VERSION.
Mite get ruby this time
-
"New world" and "new adventure" seem to be setting up for a changed Hoenn region.
I wonder if that means they'll be cutting down on the number of water routes? It prompts much thought, to be sure.
-
>Cutting down on the water routes
FUCK THAT
that was like half of hoenn
-
>Cutting down on the water routes
FUCK THAT
that was like half of hoenn
The other half is trumpets, right? :3
-
Before I forget to ask again - I still have a trophy Shiny Nidoking that I'm interested in trading to someone who actually wants him.
Offers I most certainly will accept: 5-6IV good natured/competitive Pokemon, a Shiny, or an unwanted or duplicate Legendary.
...that is, if anyone actually wants the poor guy. I remember Kaiza being interested.
-
5-6IV good natured/competitive Pokemon, a Shiny, or an unwanted or duplicate Legendary.
Don't got any of those
Because honestly just fuck IVs man I already have FE for eugenics simulator, and it's simpler.
-
Don't got any of those

No worries - the 5-6IV thing was only for competitive Pokemon - other trophy shinies are accepted offers, as are duplicate/unwanted Legendaries.
-
Don't got shinies (muh luck)
only got one legendary
-
I could help correct that! I have an extra Cobalion...and like 7 Virizions. >v>
Want a Cobalion and a Virizion, Nachos?
-
No, my goat is far superior!
But yeah, I'm fine as is for legendaries. Don't use em, cheap bastards.
-

Gogoat is indeed glorious.
Just making sure I offer in case you wanted anymore Legendaries. Since I had help completing my national dex, I feel obligated to help others complete their's when/if I can. :)
-
Traded the Shiny Nidoking for a Shiny Abra and now have a Jolly, pink-vested Alakazam! Jolly might not be the best, but hey - pink-vested Alakazam! XP
-
To those who still wonder about the upcoming Ruby/Sapphire remakes, CoroCoro scans have shown some new MegaEvos for the starters and legendaries (including Diance), as well as the new designs for the protagonists, Team Aqua and Team Magma. Some more information has been revealed, such as the return of the Acro and Mach Bike, as well as Steven!
http://www.siliconera.com/2014/06/07/pokemon-omega-ruby-alpha-sapphire-mega-evolutions/ (http://www.siliconera.com/2014/06/07/pokemon-omega-ruby-alpha-sapphire-mega-evolutions/)
According to the scans, Sceptile, Swampert and Diancie all have Mega Evolutions now. Mega Sceptile is classified as Grass/Dragon-type, Mega Swampert is Water/Ground-type and Mega Diancie is Rock/Fairy-type.
Additionally, Kyogre and Groudon, the two mascot legendaries, have Mega Evolutions of some sort, too, although they aren’t quite described as such. They’re called Primal/Prehistoric/Primeval Groudon and Primal/Prehistoric/Primeval Kyogre. They’re said to be “regressions” called Ancient Devolution.
