Title: Naboundd
Post by: SINIB on February 06, 2020, 04:43:50 PM
Naboundd

Naboundd is a relatively small district known for its quaint way of life and conservative outlook on life. They distrust their neighbors, and outside of nessecary trade for commidities, generally prefer to stay insular and avoid contact with outsiders. It’s not very densely populated, with less than 100,000 people living within its borders, nor is it very wealthy. However, it’s been generally left alone up until now due to its location and lack of rare resources. It is ruled by a king who holds very little power, whose only purpose is to act as a dignatary and lead the army in the case of an invasion. Otherwise, people generally live their own quiet little lives according to their own ways, policing themselves and keeping order communally.

NEXUS TIME

Naboundd was a quaint little town, not especially wealthy or resourceful. Its citizens just came and went along their little lives, not paying heed to anything or anyone. Perhaps it was lady luck that graced them with mediocrity. They didn't utterly fail like many of the old districts, but neither did they succeed in anything. Perhaps that was, in its own way, a victory.

This must be what peace is. An apathetic, dehumanizing peace. And yet, the people could find happiness in that too. Such was humanity. However, it was a tragedy that their king subjected them to this lofty ideal. For apathy is death.

As the sky turned bright beyond belief, as the heat melted their bones off, what did the people of this district think? Certainly, with all that peace... they should have invested in an umbrella.

The stars were falling.

ZEKE

BOOM!!

"...Oh, you poor things." Zeke's dark eyes were filled an empty melancholy, even as his body was stretched out as if he had just thrown something. And yet, he thought nothing about the many who would perish from what he unleashed. Nothing at all. Why, he was just standing on the other side of the hills. Far, far away from the district, why would he feel anything for creatures that looked so small to him?

"L o r d     Z e k e . . . " Something groaned. Zeke's ears perked.

A bulging, grotesque mass of pink flesh and corruption which crawled from behind the trees of the hillside. Supported on six disproportionately small paws, it appeared like a hulking, mutated leech sporting no eyes or face; only a massive human mouth. Its muscles looked oddly soft, like water balloons, but squirmed beneath its skin as if they had a life of their own. And beneath all that, something rippled continuously... until the mouth opened to reveal a full set of gigantic, flat teeth.

On top of its back, there was a crate of soft drinks.

"Ohoho! Great job, I was getting thirsty." The dark man glanced at the creature and nearly jumped in glee. In a heartbeat, he grabbed a can of pop, cracked it open, and took a sip of his favorite brand of sprite cranberry. "Pwahhh~ Same as always. Our beloved soft drink... but with a little extra holiday spirit."

With that, he crushed the empty can and was immediately enveloped with a dark aura that lashed out like fire. The poor leech yelped and panicked, for it had to grip as hard as it could on the ground just not to tumble and get dragged straight into him. Immediately, Zeke was raising his arms and a leg, taking a stance... and revealing the power of the sun, right in the palm of his hands.

"Well, back on track. This time, I'm going for a perfect game."

And in less than a heartbeat, he hurled the plasmic mass through the skies, catapulting it from the other side of the hills straight into another populated area. The explosion was monstrous, those who were not immediately melted away were burned asunder by flame and exploding rubble.

How sad. Unfortunately, he wasn't planning on stopping any time soon.

Naboundd

The serenity of the town was shattered in one, cataclysmic swoop. People's lives were snuffed out in a cruel twist of fate, many being people who had moved the Naboundd generations ago for its peaceful tranquility and verdant hills.

Now, the hills were peppered with pockmarks, and the illusion of peace had been shattered like a pane of glass. For, one thing was constant, and that was the nature of war itself.

It never changed.

Zeke

He had certainly tried restraint. He could have done so much more, and so much faster. But in a sick way, Zeke was observing how the people reacted like they were animals in a safari. Truthfully, his expression didn't change.

"..."

And yet it was beautiful. Women, elderly, even children... now they all hurried and worked together. Friends, family, total strangers, it mattered not. For once in their life, they all acted in unison. This was power. This was purpose. He gave them this.

"It is a pity... that your king subjected you to this cage. You poor lambs could have become so much more." He paused if only to launch another one of these otherworldly attacks. "But this isn't enough. You've lost precious time, and you've lost those precious to you. There are no more next chances. Soon, she will strip you of all possibilities and turn you into her songbirds."

Only then, did he unleashed darkness. The surge of power followed suit. So let there be light.

"Allow me to free you."

And thus, Zeke hurled yet another sun into yet another densely populated area. This bombardment would continue, quickly moving towards the royal residences.

And then, behind him, he heard a chuckle.

"Fufufu... I see why my wife was so interested in you, now. How utterly fascinating! How stupendous! What a farcical turn of events that lead the poor Ezekiel to where he is today! KYahaHahaHAHA~!" A feminine voice chuckled behind him, a presence that hadn't been there a moment before.

One brimming with true power that even he could feel.

Zeke

Hmm. A little too high. He scratched the back of his ear, trying to gauge how to make his next throw.

The first one to react was the giant leech, which scampered and hid away into the brush and foliage. Such palpable energy... who could be doing this? Zeke looked like he shivered for a second there.

"How scary. Don't tell me you're with those poor souls." He didn't really need to turn his head to look at her, but he might as well be polite. What an odd girl. "You're an elf, aren't you? How cute."

He stroked his beard in fascination.

"Keh!" She laughed, and her ample bust bounced admirably in time with her twitching ears. "One could say I am, as a matter of convenience. I'm sure they'll speak of me as their savior, after all, since I'm here to capture you."

Her red eyes gleamed, staring into Zeke, beyond the surface, digging further into his sordid past than anyone had before.

And he could feel her, peeling away layer after layer with every passing moment.

"...Oh. No, I can't have that." He shook his head and smiled, feeling her peel him like an onion... if he could allow such an analogy. Unfortunately, the savior of this tale would be his boss, so she wouldn't get that chance.

"I assume you want to put me on a table and do outrageous things to my body. I can relate, but I suppose you know that already."

Suddenly, the vile heat of corrupt stars erupted brightly from his body, burning his surroundings with a surge of pure energy! Despite that light, a dark hunger like no other brimmed out of him, and a terrifying smile.

"So be a good girl and come with me."

Eruraviel

Eruraviel yawned. Yes, she yawned. "This paltry display, is it really the best you have, Zeke? Empty words come with an even more vapid mind, simply wishing to consume in a sense of misguided loyalty to a long dead master? My my, how tragic your life must be."

She pointed her finger at him, and a ray of undulating green death erupted from her finger, surging forth towards his leg.

Zeke

"...pffft. If you're looking for loyalty, you'll find it in a pomeranian pup." He laughed heartily as he took a step forward, only for half his body to become cloaked in darkness. The ray of death was dragged into his own pitch-black finger... and vanished from this world.

Countering that, Zeke flicked his fingers towards him... and the pull intensified, now strong enough to drag even large animals towards him! At the same time, the energy built up in his other arm, causing the air to burn and the earth to bubble! You didn't even need instinct to know that getting dragged into a punch like that would be bad news.

"She's interesting! I want to see where her dream leads with my own eyes. Can't you relate to that?"

Eru opened her mouth, and noise came out. It seared his ears with hellish sounds, never meant to be heard by mortals. If he listened closely, he could just barely tell they were words. What she said, was beyond his comprehension.

And then, she winked out of existence, just before being pulled into his punch. Far above him, he heard her chuckling. "If that's the best you can accomplish, this will be easier than I thought. Your old form was so much stronger, kyahahaha!"

She vanished, and reappeared above him! His expression looked shocked. HOWEVER!

"And you're so much cuter when you laugh!"

What impacted wasn't his fist, but a scalding foot. The struck body wasn't Eru's... but the poor creature of Zeke's! His poor precious comrade which couldn't hold onto the ground anymore... was now blown to bits by an impact it simply couldn't handle. Countless giblets of lava-like flesh were shooting in the sky like bullets, each aimed precisely for where Eru just teleported to.

Eru put her palm down, seeing his intent well before he finished enacting his plan, and the giblets slammed into an invisible wall of force. Then, she snapped her fingers, standing atop the wall now, looking down upon Zeke. "Show me more, Ezekiel. Show my everything you can muster!" She exclaimed, chortling at him from above.

An enormous, disembodied hand (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/ssb/images/4/41/Crazy-Hand-Official-Artwork-SSBU.png/revision/latest?cb=20181129093018) appeared behind him, rushing forward to grab the old rapscallion.

"Whoah!"

The hand slammed against his back, leaving him breathless from the impact! He was gripped mercilessly, wrapped by these astral fingers until not a speck of his shine could reach out. The sun was blotted out and would shine no more.

It would devour.

A black explosion surged out of its fingers. It ripped and ravaged the spell, and dragged it to some unknowable place. Zeke emerged from the black flames, his beard also set alight by this void-like aura. Even his coat stretched out like the night, revealing four dark wings that didn't need to so much as to bat.

It almost looked like an angel, a dragon of old and a demon all at once, but it was neither. It only defined itself as itself, and nothing else. The void soared high in the air, rushing towards the cute little vixen while pulling in everything around it towards it.

Yet, as the first hand was devoured, a second one appeared in front of him, flicking him right in the face with heroic strength before he was able to escape.

"Nice little trick you have there." The elf noted, tapping her foot upon the wall of force she was standing on.

Whoa! As soon as he ripped off of that hand, another came. His eyes widened, he tried to absorb it too but he didn't even get to lick it before his face was slammed by an unbelievable force. As he flew back and a strange black ooze spewed from his mouth, he managed to speak just fine. "No dice huh."

Thus flicked like a fly, he slammed on the burning ground like a bullet.

"Why thank you. I am oh so flattered." Even more incredible, he managed to land on his feet. He spat a splash of that black... thing, wiped on his sleeve, and just crossed his arms at Eru. "Honestly, you should join us. You'd be a great asset to our team. Pretty girls are a dime a dozen, but I can't say I've met someone as gifted as you in a while."

As he said that, his irises dilated hungrily. (http://darksidemoon.net/SMF_forum/index.php/topic,762.msg63652.html#msg63652)

"Feh! I wish I could say the same about you! You're just an interesting science experiment, boy! A mistake gone wrong that should have never existed in the first place!" She exclaimed, snapping her fingers. Tendrils burst out of the ground, grasping him tightly and holding him still for a moment.

Then, she prepared a counterspell to counteract his drain, ready to negate it the moment he activated it.

Nexus Time: 11:00 AM

"Jeez, what a mess." Joseph ignored the raging conflict, preferring instead to be carried around by one of the many clones of the martial artist he had produced. They were now all sporting silver masks and dark clothes in the style of Serana's troops. However, those didn't seem to impede their eyesight at all as he rode on the shoulder of one and was followed by two more. "I hope they know that if they blow someone into tiny chunks it's much harder to do anything about that."

Still he moved well enough. The clones dragged out mostly intact bodies. Mostly. Some were missing chunks, had crushed limbs from the rubble, or were burned hideously by the radiation. But that was fine. With a touch even the dead bodies were soon gasping to life without a scratch on them. Then one of the more palatable looking beasts would arise from his shadow to shepherd them to safety.

"Be careful! I can't revive you if you get turned to ash, and even if you only die normally it isn't fun to get crushed over and over again!" There was an almost cheery air to his benevolence as he traveled through the district.

"No, no, no! Come on kid, this world's a stage! You need to encourage the supporting cast and elevate the performance!" He roared out madly, grinning from ear to ear. Something that would have filled any soul with ire... simply filled him with genuine giddy glee.

The tentacles reached out for him, snapping around his arms, neck, limbs and more. Choking the life out of him, gripping him like a vice... HOWEVER!
"AT LEAST CALL ME A HAPPY LITTLE ACCIDENT!"

And then nothing happened.

Zeke coughed.

"...I said, at least call me a happy little accident?"

Literally nothing happened. At this point, he was trying to struggle out of the tentacles. He clearly didn't have enough power and was completely immobilized. You could tell he was starting to sweat. "How can you do this? This is outrageous... it's unfair!"

His esxpression darkened. Was his face filled with despair? She'd only be able to tell if she'd get closer!

While the battle raged above, a woman slank through the district, carrying a bow on her back, a long, cruel looking knife in one hand, and a curious-looking gem in the other that gave off a faint glow. She skulked through the shadows, stopping over dead bodies, pausing momentarily over each one to deliver last rites before absorbing their souls into the gem for her mistress.

Each time, she muttered something in elvish, making sure to close their eyes before moving on.

A mage... how unfortunate. He wouldn't be able to pressgang someone like that, and working alongside those types were such a hassle! There were always countermeasures and betrayals. Someone always ends up dead or lacked in a basement for a few centuries until the whole thing falls apart and you crawl out. "Did she produce you in a lab? You seem fairly high quality. Not a masterwork but you were worked on by a master. No major physical flaws, presumably increased physicality without the need to overgrow the frame, the touch of aesthetics to show it's not wholly married to pragmatism. It's not bad." There was little doubt from his tone and voice that he'd already mentally dissected the elf in his head. Although there was at least the slight desire to do it directly.

One of the men leaned in to whisper to Joseph. "Well, it looks like he isn't doing too well. He should have brought explosives. We probably could have brought him back, and the explosive radius would have been large enough to turn this whole area to glass. It might not have killed her either looking at that," he pointed at the gem, "but he wouldn't look so pitiful, would he?"

And thus it ended just as it began. With the elf displaying utter dominance upon the poor jester, the fool being utterly crushed by her abilities. His body trembled like a leaf, but could clearly not resist her compulsion! He sat, gripped tighter by the tendrils which were going against any and all of his movements. They coiled around his muscles, his throat, and choked his body. Her sorcery coiled around his mind, his being, and tightened around it.

"N-no... please... I'm too weak... d-don't kill me! Ahh... J-Joseph! Someone! Help me...!" He whimpered, paralyzed and slowly suffocating, and clearly found the manipulation of his mind painful.

His voice was breaking, the creases in his flesh deepened, and he looked like he aged 40, no, 50 years in but a few seconds! But even more amazingly, a static seemed to overtake Zeke! Suddenly, his body was flickering like a broken tv image, jumbling all the layers that Eru was observing and throwing them into disarray.

No... it was peeling them before her, all of them! The origin of the abyss was pushing its way out of his soul and into her eyes, pumping her body full to the brim with forbidden knowledge, and a dream that now marked the turn of the megaannum!

A lesser mind would have buckled under the weight of information flooding into her mind. Even a mere 100 years ago, this probably would have been her end.

But, she was no weakling. She was the greatest wizard whom had ever lived. She was the forgotten fifth child, used as a toy by her siblings in her youth, yet now had them all firmly under her control! She would never lose to something like this, because that would be rejecting the very core of who she was!

"I am Eruraviel! A trifle such as this is nothing compared to my true goals!" She shouted, loud enough for everyone to hear. Her eyes blazing with never-before-seen intensity, she issued another command.

"Continue sitting there, and take no further actions until ordered!" Then, she began to descend, slowly getting closer so she could safely strap him to a table.

His dark expression coulld no longer hide his smile! Even terrified, the shadow of his face spelled out his heart's joy before his challenge! Her control was truly terrifying! With such magic, she could easily dominate this city! No, surpass it! Had he met such a wonderful woman first, he would have surely fallen for her instead of his dearest boss. And as her powers fully bound his unwilling flesh, something deep inside the void stirred once more.

His ambition was lesser than hers? Who decided that?

Her sorcery could blot out his sun? Who decided that?

Her edict could override his will? Who decided that?

Plasma crackled around his body for a moment! He underwent a dramatic transformation, and as she approached him he revealed his true intent with a punch beyond all punches! The tentacles were torn apart, his body radiated scalding heat, his smile was utterly monstruous to behold, and the very core of his being was evolving before her very eyes.

"The one who decides such things... is me!"

He overcame. His nature, her control, himself... all for the sake of matching her ambition. His eyes were litterally burning, the explosion of heat propelled him towards her at maddening speeds, his arm hurled in to strike her dead here and there!

HOWEVER!!

The time to shine would not be his.

His stretched hand was stopped before he could reach her. No, his whole body was like a statue. He had lost, completely and utterly. It was not a matter of will, ability, or even the self. It was simply fated. And yet, despite losing the favor of the Gods, Zeke's horrifying smile did not recede one bit.

Somewhere in this world, a babe weeps. Such was the dread that his unmoving expression wrought. And his searing eyes stared right at Eruaviel's with endless hunger. Slowly, their distance grew, until he touched the ground hopelessly while she just stayed among the heavens. He was completely unable to move. It was infuriating, but he couldn't find the strength to get mad.

His shine was now in the palm of her hand. All she needed was to take.

"Heh." She replied simply, only lowering down once she saw he was entirely bound by her magic. Intense magical energy crackled through her entire body as she walked towards him, sparking along her entire body. Once she got right in front of him, she raised her bare foot to his face. "Now, kiss your new mistress. Your journey intersects with my path, for now."

The domination still held him tight, but he could feel a new magical effect assaulting his body, one he couldn't yet place the effects of.

There was a low growl, but even if the void struggled, it could not yet resist. Or maybe he had given up on resistance. Maybe he was enjoying this. If their paths were to intersect, then he would gladly accept this bond. As they connected, he'd be able to reach even greater heights.

"What is it with you creatures and feet?" His mouth approached that bag of meat, cartillage and bone... and kissed its toes. The texture of her skin against his tongue, the taste of an elf inside his mouth... these feet were a new experience, something precious and valuable. He cherished the information and sensation as tightly as one could. Zeke closed his eyes...

And bit down. Not nearly hard enough to wound. Only hard enough to make a maiden yelp.

Despite his submission, when he opened his eyes he looked at her like he still had plenty of fight left. His body and mind didn't resist, but perhaps this was his own way of acknowledging her.

He did not get the reaction he desired from the fair, bountiful maiden. Instead, he saw the length hanging between her legs, wrapped in the frilly white maid cocksleeve as it was, twitch a bit.

"Fufufu. Now, my dear friend, you will let me learn everything about you, ok?" She ran her hand down his cheek, that malevolent, dominating smile looking more and more dear to him with every passing moment.

"You'll let your good friend Erururu cut you open just a little bit, right?"

Zeke

Fascinating.

His visage rejuvenated a bit, looking a bit more comely than the transformed, horrifying shape he took. A stream of some strange substance, not quite saliva yet crystal clear in its essence, trailed off her foot.

"That is your right of conquest. Who am I to say no to such pure desires? If it is for the sake of knowledge, everything is fair play."

He managed to bow curtly, but raised a finger up in a sudden motion. "Do give me one moment though. Actually, how about a demonstration?" As he said that, his eyes trailed over to the estuary that connected Xibalba to this place.

A pity...

And with that, he cupped his hands in front of his mouth... and screamed. What came out was not a human voice, but some kind of melody. A signal.

The sound carried over, not through air but through the paths that connected him to his organisms, bouncing and spreading from individual to individual. Paths that now brought the people of Naboundd... those unfortunate enough to be infected by Zeke far closer together. Closer to him. For you see, he did not lie. He, or rather his children, had been quite busy and hardworking as ever, corrupting the water and the food of this place and slipping inside a small portion of the populace. And with a simple scream, the organisms laying dormant and hiding in their bodies awakened, and spread the signals further.

All for the sake of that man The one responsible for all this. The kind, compassionate king who was risking his life this very moment in order to offer aid to the needy, even after this devastating attack. Even now, the people looked up to him. He had no power, nor did he have authorithy. But in this crisis, his role as a symbol could shine once more.

Such a kind hearted shine was an impediment, unnecessary to the ends of his dream. Thus, once Zeke's signal reached the organisms lying in wait, a different shine altogether emerged. It overtook the infected people of this district, clueless and helpless of what was sleeping inside each one of them.

If there was such a thing as a holy light that could emerge from any individual,a force that connects people together... then this would be the ultimate perversion of this idea.

The weak and the chaff would be transformed into angel-like abominations, monstruous creatures made solely for the sake of consuming. They would not lose their memories, their emotions. But their words and hands could reach their loved ones no longer. They had but one directive, one will forced into them.

Kill the king.

And they would hate Zeke for it. Yet this hatred would only make their love for Serana stronger, once she saved them from their own powerlessness. The helpless hapless king was now offered up on a silver platter, no more than a sacrificial lamb to the savior of this story.

"Haah... ech... god, that hurts like hell. My throat's on fire! Ow!" He coughed and hacked. With that, his work was done. Phew.

"Well well well, let's go then hm? I look forward to seeing your work."  He took her hand and clasped it lovingly, slipping his fingers between hers.

The foot he had been worshipping slammed into his forehead with a loud crack. "My servants must learn how to properly greet me, Ezekiel." She ground her broken heel into his face, pushing down on his head with the rest. "You aren't nearly cute enough to service me as a lover nor a pet. No, you're far more useful to me as a test subject, and as a wild dog..." She muttered, holding back a wince as her bones melded themselves back together. Her eyes glimmered like crimson rubies, glaring at him. "Continue the slaughter. While your old master may have farsical plans, it proves useful to me..."

She winked at the taller man, her ears trembling in avid interest. "Fufufufu~ How interesting. You're like some sort of cancer..."

His black eyes shined like gold, and much like the dog she liked to compare him to, he grabbed the foot aimed at his forehead with his own mouth. Like a flash, he already pinned it down between his jaws, but not as to bite down and wound. Because greater than pain and violence was the implication. The implication that he might bite down on that soft, delicate limb... yet won't. But he could.

        Hah... and you're pretty cute.
"Rah... ahn huouh wrehhy hyuhe."  The flavor was there, and definetely unknown. Now that he tasted it for a third time, he figured elves had a certain tang to their flesh that made them quite succulent to the tongue. Perhaps it was this particular elf, or maybe the flesh and nerve endings in his vessel's tongue had a certain affinity to this experience. Further tests might be necessary.

But tests or no tests, he is observant nonetheless. Thus, he grows certain of one thing. This meat is unseasoned. Thus, he lets go as soon as he grabs her.

"I'm pretty much done, and you're not one to give me orders, girl. You're not good enough to replace her yet." Zeke's golden eyes flared up, but he smiled nonetheless. He was never born as a person, so a concept like a person's pride was completely alien to him. Hence he was fine being a dog. They were smart creatures, loyal, and knew the values of bonds better than any other creature.

But if one was as callous as to kick a dog, one should expect worse than a bite in the future.

"And I can be plenty cute. Just not in this vessel, aged and broken by battle. But I won't change it yet. I'm the kind of guy who likes old comfortable shoes better than fancy new sneakers any time of the day."

And therein laid the contradiction. He was an agent of the new, one who fought for change. But he was perfectly fine being comfortable in the present. Even she could start to see that there was more to what he said or believed than he let on, but she could also see one more thing.

This is nothing more than the story of the worst possible outcome.

Somewhere, some time ago, yet in a world that never was... there was a tower. A great marvel of forbidden sorcery, machinery, and energy that threatened to upheave all of creation. This accursed, illogical world is too full of contradictions. The slate must be wiped clean. The world must change in order to be saved. I must not lose anything ever again.

It was all the result of one man's childish ideal. But in the end, even that ended up consuming him. He became the very thing he once threatened to destroy and nearly succeeded.  Great heroes in his time rose up and fought through the great structure in order to save the world. In the end, there was a great clash, one that shook the very heavens and the core of the universe itself.

But the heroes failed.

This tower, this dream, could not be stopped. It would consume everything, every history, and consolidate it into one story. One where there would only be winners. A great ark that would save everyone. A place where no one would have to live in the fear of death.

O land of the dead. This tower's name was Xibalba.

And it would shatter history and possibility itself. However... it was not to be. It could never be. The tower's foundations were built upon a lie. A chink, so small even its master ovdrlooked it. But when all the pieces were laid out and victory was at its closest, that very tower betrayed him.

This world is an illogical one. For the sake of fixing it, he was ready to throw everything away in order to save it. If he had to choose between saving one person and another, he was the type of fool who'd go for an impossible option, and try to shoulder the lives of everyone. But his hands were too small.

He saved no one. And as the tower shattered down upon itself, the worn down heroes dealt a fatal blow and destroyed him utterly. Their world and history would never be the same... but they had managed to entrust a safe future for the next history that would take its place.

All of this is, of course, no more than a story.

But upon his death, that man would entrust his very being upon the fallen tower and the pieces of his forbidden, maddening research. He would pour shards of his own soul, his own self... and as the tower fell they would scatter beyond the horizon, accross space, accross time. And one day, they would converge once more, in the land where the divide occurred. The world where all worlds converge.

The Nexus.

The false divines he created to exert control would become true shards of God, under the guidance of humans. Hence, the Usurping Demiurge of Control is born. YHWH rules his domain with an iron fist, holding the pride and maddening yearning to be held the most high as the one above other Gods. Light, dark, good, evil, it matters not. The mechanical angels and the accursed demons fight forever, and as their roots together join, a fruit of great power is born, which can kill even the divine. The tower's sword, made to cut down those who once imprisoned that man, now swings down on the very humans he hoped to save. But even worse, this fruit now lies within a child whose own ends could turn this world into ruin. Now, even that origin is uncertain.

As the foundation of heaven changes, a man who was drowned in a storm of conflict has rejected its dual foundations. Will he come to the same conclusion of that man, or can destiny truly be changed?

The vessel that will destroy the world of Gods would fall through a stream of time, blissfully unaware of its own self until it is consumed by it once more. The memories of that man tried to grasp onto this armored vessel, but they could not reach its heart. Thus, Hróðvitnir, the wolf whose maw will swallow the world, slumbers in a pleasant dream. But will that ephemeral heroism endure, when the dreamer awakes once more? Or will the nightmare truly begin? This tale is one of uncertainty, but also of hope. Yet one cannot hope by blindly forgetting the past, it must be confronted. For now, the monster sleeps still, trapped by its humanity and its own world of falsehood. The memory and hope of that man might have survived. Can it truly endure?

Across these shards, worlds and histories, something malevolent and aberrant brewed. For if the heavens are to look down with pride, if humans are to look up with hope, then it is the unknown that carries desire. That man's madness, his obsession, the very desire to reach beyond... it was all drawn and merged into a void where no light or understanding could bring comfort. A void as empty as greed itself, accursing the illogical world as nothing more than an alien force with no love or humanity to bring it form. It contacts living beings who are compatible to it, and influences their minds into becoming one that wishes to bring about the New World. As it emerged, it grasped on the mind of a sorcerer, who sought to use this alien force in order to end the nightmare. But that sorcerer was no different than that man. Being obsessed with the past, always looking back, and creating without passion or love, he ended up repeating the cycle while trying to fix it.

Hence, the relics he harnessed, the angelic bodies it used as tools, even its own body and lineage... it lost everything to the Will of The World. Now, it spreads as a cancer, using the same networks and pathways of the divine, and seeks to morph the world into a new one through divine PATHS that it corrupts and morphs. Without love, without humanity, without any of the goodness or ambiguity, it assimilates false histories and broken worlds, trying to clutch back into reality. This alien will and its avatar spread through the hearts of people who succumb to despair, like a night that seeks to last forever. But whose will is this truly?

The blackened wings that man designed to carry off the delusions of the mighty and to test the blood of the faithful brought him to his own undoing, and the shelter of his schemes was made in truth no more than a cage of blades. For a span of time counted in the corpses of billions the Primarch of Trials has held on to his duty as the only respite of hell, and now the hunger of Orcus beats about the world like a hawk once more. There is no peace in imperfection, but out of love he may yet polish a soul that brings an answer to eternity. Within a cage of chaotic metal, the heart of the former warrior beats once more inside his friend, this time with true affection.

For a million years, these shards traveled accross hyperspace, across hypertime, accross the sea of histories and the sands of countless worlds. Each sought its own different answer, each held its own cherished dream. But in the end, there can only be one.

Accross infinite space and time, this possibility converges once more. Thus the shards of the tower scatter and dance about, and slip through the fingers of the man who mastered time like the sands of the hourglass.

Soon, the sands will bring him sleep no longer. Does the future hold hope? Does it hold despair?

The Nexus shall biring curses and blessings in equal measure.

Necromantic power coursed through him, healing his wounds, but also layering on further control, control which he felt less and less ability to resist.

"Don't lie." She chuckled. "You just get off to the idea of claiming a cute young woman with an old and disgusting body." She pulled her foot back away from him and shook it off. "Disgusting. I'll need to clean it before cutting you open."

He told her already, just because he liked her didn't mean he'd just be a subservient little lamb. In fact, she should know by now it just made it less and less likely. However... he was sweating all over.

"My body or the foot? Heh heh heh..." She didn't even need to read his soul to tell what kind of picture he was thinking of. Unfortunately, he caught on to her trick soon enough... about the moment the compulsion hit, he'd cast off the tendrils of control away into a very distant, very unpleasant place. The kid was too reliant on magic alone, he'd end up adapting to her soon if she didn't try different tricks. Needing magic to manipulate people is just sad.

However, something stirred in him. For some reason, despite the opportunity he just... didn't. And that was the true terror of Eruaviel. Zeke liked this, he enjoyed this twisted kind of company, and even if he didn't she'd find some twisted way to make her worst inflictions pleasant to his soul. Understanding what changed, yet carried away by these same whims, he felt kind of chilly all of a sudden. This only made him grin wider though. The fact try as he might to chink the lock, he'd fail. So why not rattle it even harder?

Even if he wanted to, and really should, there was nothing wrong with enjoying the moment. At least, that was one way you might think he'd rationalize it. Its probably what he'd actually be thinking, if he were really human.

"I don't lie. Even if my fate is sealed, I still gotta resist in every way I can, right? Otherwise I'd insult a mage as great as you. You're leagues beyond me... but the real deal is going to start soon. If you keep slacking off in pointless side quests, you'll end up lagging behind."

Without the constraint of gravity, he just  floated with his arms back like he was on some kind of invisible hammock, and circled the cute elf.

"But don't worry. Good friend Zeke will help you out. I'm just that nice, you know? Problem is... you'll absolutely regret it. So what, gonna take me to your home and treat me to a nice dinner and massage or what?"

The Time Is Now

"Your time is up."

It was true, his time truly was now. And there was nothing the self absorbed Elf girl could do about it. A hood was pulled over his face, or rather a pitch black void as nothing could gaze past that never ending pit to see his true face.

"That cuteness is nothing compared to overwhelming exhilaration of corrupting a pure Goddess, know your place trash."

He approached with the slow gait of an old man, a worldly existence, far past his prime. Yet..... There was something below all of it, a primal power, and a smug arrogance that was utterly inhuman in scope and nature. Yes, this being wasn't just sure of itself, to even question it would be absurd.

"Now, release my Vanguard" His intonation was strange, almost perverse. But more importantly it was impossible. A true pronunciation that had been lost to the waves of time... Until now.

The elf turned to the newcomer with a frown, staring at the man standing before her, taking a quick glimpse of his power. Her ears trembled as she stared at him, silently listening to the loud music accompanying him, finally raising her hand dramatically and snapping her fingers. Music of her own from behind her shoulders blared behind her. (https://youtu.be/Lk1qatJy3w8) She didn't understand what was happening, but she could tell it was a fight for dominance, one on which she was not willing to be outdone.

"You're cute, I'll give you that. And you're a powerful mage, in your own rite too." The elf clapped lazily at him, never taking her eyes off him for a moment, and giving ZEKE a mental order to help protect her, no matter what, knowing how futile this would be if truly took action against her. "Bravo. You've met a real mage today for your first time, so I'll give you a pass for being so rude to me." Her gems shined brightly, fully ready for a fight against William. "Why don't you start by explaining to me how exactly he's yours."

CHAPTER ONE - EPHEMERAL DREAM - END

56 Hours until the shatterpoint

INTERMISSION

11:15 AM

Huh?

He jolted like if he was hit by a spark the moment he heard that name, and turned back to look at the hooded man. No way... If he'd assume that was the source of the ominous feeling, his wide eyes and  expression only confirmed it.

This cannot be!

"WAIT WHAT!? IMPOSSIBLE! YOU... YOU SHOULD BE DEAD!" He looked like he had just been hit by a crash of static noise. Even Eru could see all his thooughts were jumbling like noise, static... panic. But even that was nothing compared to his incredulous shout. "What the hell... you shouldn't even be here! You shouldn't exist in this world! His notes said you-"

For some reason, Zeke seemed to have completely lost all pretenses of a poker face. He sweated all over, and that sweat even flew upwards, and his trembling old frame floated behind Eruaviel. Is this some kid of illusion? No, even that elf wouldn't be able to make something that convincing. That palpable darkness, that chaotic spirit, that sword... Could he have survived as an uncertain existence like mine? No, this is reality.

This could only mean one thing: The paradox was correcting itself.

His voice grew calmer. Almost chillingly... but his dark eyes were surprised as ever. "You planned it. All of it. Damn bastard, I can't even believe it. The actual architect... the Dark Emperor... was you?" He sounded like even he couldn't believe it.

He began to harden his back, growing crystal scales and horns accross his spine.

The Great Darkness Beyond

"The notes were wrong clearly, my I wonder what could have been behind that mess. I'm sorry to say... But you've been mislead by a deviant trickster ohohoho..."

He spun around with arms wide, swaying from left to right before ending up right in front of the pair. Even though the faint glow of the burning embers that remained from the battle earlier hit him at different angles. Even as the very sunlight cast a judging ray upon, even through all of that, under his hood the darkness reigned supreme.

"The Architect was not me. I am the one behind, the shadow that lingers at the edge of darkness. I am the will that turns the wheel. Fully transient yet ever present. Then, now and eventually. I was here long before you were but a dream. A dream We nourished, all along.... All along. And you are worthless, as long as the failed simulacrum persists then his failure will remain eternal and recursive."

He suddenly bowed deeply to Elf, as if he was showing the respect worthy of a ruler. "My apologies. It is most embarrassing that I can't share with you my name at this hour, but If did I would very unfortunately have to kill you. So just call me William." His eyes sharpened as he took in her handiwork. Even though you couldn't see his eyes, you could definitely tell they sharpened in that moment.

"If you let him go and bring Her back, I'll let you in on a few secrets about this place." A large glowing blue crystal floated out of pocket on top of a black cloud and landed on his hand, he then held it out for the Elf to see.

The young elven woman's raised her eyebrow at his bravado, but quickly focused her eyes on the gem. One, it was an extremely high quality recepticle, even comperable to her own, but more interestingly, it was full.

And the young woman hidden inside it was interesting, far more tantalizing than digging through a failure of an experiment to see how it works. No, this was a work of beauty of the sort she'd spent the last two hundred years chasing after. She raised her eyebrow, and then...

... she smiled, chuckling at him. Her ears pointed straight out, entirely still, except for the slight tremble in the pointed tip. "Well well well." She clapped. "Why don't we recuse ourselves to my parlor. Chatting would be nice, I think."

Zeke just stared at the dark mage in disbelief. At least, it had to be disbelief, how else would you explain his reflection on his vessel's widened eyes? At least... until he pulled out that thing.

What?

"Wah! Where did you get something like that! Lemme seee...!" He circled around the gem with an interested look. The mask of shock and surprise broke as a small smile took its place, along with another mask that was even harder to pinpoint. So he laughed genuinely. Its as if that man had told him a funny joke, or more like he realized he had gotten pranked and couldn't help but find it kind of funny. "Fuhahahah! I see, I see! I think I get it now. Thanks..."

He moved to snatch it immediately.

Or... tried. His eyes widened, he struggled with a gritted rictus. However, he couldn't so much as move. His hand reached out for it, but couldn't inch forward a single step, like if he was encased in diamond. His body trembled trying to get it, but ultimately stopped entirely, and he turned his glance to Eru with a sly grin, even though his body was sweating all over from the futile strain. "You're a real ass." He didn't say it maliciously, more in a friendly oh dang it, you're really going to stop me? I called first dibs man. Fine, fine, if you're so desperate, I'll letcha have it.

"Very well Elf, I will follow if isn't too far. Be aware my travels have already brought me far and wide, I have not known rest in an age." He snapped around and pocketed the crystal.

And then, a dark presence lurking deep within the mind of Zeke at last sent shocks of cutting chill through the mind of its servant which threatened to completely shatter the wretched enchantment ensnaring his equally wretched mind. 'I see even in success you find ways to create problems.'

Zeke began to feel his limbs move on their own, a foreign yet all too familiar will slithering through the unnatural substance approximating his flesh, and then he grabbed hold of his own arm with such force that his fingers began to dig down into the bone. A fearsome golden glow overtook his eyes. "Now how shall I reprimand you for falling for this devil's snare? Most concerning..."

The voice coming from Zeke's body was most certainly not his, and not masculine in the slightest. No, it was the elegant and feminine tone of proper elvish nobility.

You...what the...! You fool! Focus on the dream ahead! Worrying about me like that... My cute dummy...

His black eye widened. No... another golden eye, with a strange alien pattern that bounced back and forth in panic. His body tensed, his face contorted, and even his fangs showed in outrage, while his body started to groan and sweat like an empty husk. He tried to roar out, but his throat was stuck.

...Aw, so you do care. That's so sweet my heart's all clogged up bosslady.

'Spare me your concerns, You. You have fulfilled your purpose, and I shall address the fallout of your successes myself.

Unseen by the ones who had bedeviled her dramatic servant, another more mercenary and yet also more stable member of her assembly of atrocities would be ready to address this one's retreat soon enough. "I had considered watching you for longer, and yet I felt strangely drawn to this moment. I must insist that you release this one."

Eruraviel's sharp ears picked up on a bird alighting upon a nearby ledge, its eyes as golden as the light that now began to flicker out from Zeke's own to return his cognizance back to him. "Would you kindly, then?"

Effortlessly, the same voice from before poured forth from the feathery abomination against nature.

Eruraviel

The elf's ears twitched to the source of the sound, listening to the subtle whispers of the plants and trees nearby. She waved her hand in the air, shooing Zeke away, releasing the enchantment, and giving Ezekiel back his wits. "Sure. I was done with him for now anyway." She replied, turning to stare at the bird. "He can sit there, and be a good boy like the dog that he is." Her head gently throbbed as she slowly processed the glut of information that she'd extracted from him, turning to face William again, winking at the cloaked figure and offering him her hand before blinking. "Mysterious sort, he is." She muttered, turning back to the raven.

Man of Mysteries

"About time Princess, the prattle of the marionette master grows ever more wearisome by the moment. But do you aim to open a rift in space-time? That is truly dangerous venture for the uninitiated." His voice was as steady as ever, like aged wood yet there was a youthful quality to it, as if the sound that left his was nothing but showmanship. Could that truly be it? Why would you even think he had lips when the hood seemingly contained an endless void, yet his face was undeniably humanoid easy to see, yet impossible to get any detail from. A fleeting moment forever crystallized on the far shores.

Zeke

The void-bound vessel flinched and threw its head back, while his eyes suddenly gleamed and widened with clarity. He just stood there, frozen in shock and disbelief, only to quake. For just a moment, his dark aura flared with a fanged snarl, and the black beast roared.

"Kuhahahahah! You... Yoooou.... NAUGHT SHALL REMAIN, I SHALL CHOKE YOU WITH YOUR ORGANS AND DISPLAY YOUR BURNT REMANTS TO YOUR DESCENDANTS, KNIFE-EAR MEA-!!"

His scream of rage and indignation sent streams of violent heat slamming down on whatever was left of the scalded hilltop. They just ran past the crow and the elf, without so much as hitting either. This incandescence was only second to the outrage, the unfairness, the nerve that mage had. It was... it was...

Angery Mystery Man

Knife ears.....

"That's disgustingly racist."

What happened next was to hard to fathom for the disturbingly racist wannabe lich. One thing was certain though. He just parted the clouds.

That was the only certainty, that and the faint recollection of his face being sucked into a massive fist wreathed in both shadows and light.

Joseph

What a mess! Joseph had taken more than enough samples and revived enough dead to be heralded the second coming, but now they were just talking. From his perch on his soldier's shoulder he was slurping on a bowl of pho that had been left undisturbed after the battle with idle curiosity. Eating didn't do that much for him, but sometimes it just felt good to do. It was important to remember the things he planned to do... after.

With a twist of shadow Joseph vanished, and soon so did all of his experiments.

Eruraviel

Her ears trembled in disbelief, lowering themselves flat against her neck as the powerful mage trembled in anger. Normally, any reaction from her was somewhat muted, or exaggerated playfully, but here, it was pure, unadulterated rage.

Trembling with fury, she watched with gratification as the blur of William slammed into his face, sending Zeke hurtling through the sky and out of sight. She turned to the raven, glaring at it with eyes of death. Magical energy swirled through her body unchecked, causing the elf's skin to give off a faint, moonlit luster. Fluttering her ears, she turned back to William, and gave him a genuine smile of gratitude. "Thank you for that." She replied simply.

The fist smashed against his face, cracking it with a violent snap and sending him hurling up towards the heavens. And so he was gone, sparkling like a star in the sky. (http://darksidemoon.net/SMF_forum/index.php/topic,762.msg64105.html#msg64105)

Serana

The bird had gone deathly silent again, still as rigor mortis, its glowing eyes fixated upon the spot where Zeke once stood. Slowly, like the avian's neck was broken, it turned its attention to the horizon, and then sharply back to Eruraviel.

"I had thought him less foolish than that. Clearly, an error of judgement has been made on my part." A pause, as if the mind on the other end were responding to something elsewhere. "I shall see to his punishment."

The bird approached Eruraviel with a hop and a glide toward her, as if looking to perch somewhere closer.

The white blackish aura died down as fast as it had flared up but evenso.... Even so pushed through the fatigue and kept moving to position  himself between Eru and the bird.

"That is far enough. Leave or I shall grind this familiar of yours to dust." His voice only held cold fury for her, not like how he had spoken to the elf behind him. Before this puppeteer had been a nuisance now she was a threat to his ambitions. And he wouldn't let those stand, not this time.

"Why don't you come down here instead of hiding in the shadows like a simpleton? It is no wonder your subordinate is such despicable cur when his master is a whimpering coward." This would either cut the conversation short right here or the puppet master would show themselves.

Either way he would have come out on top. On the other hand any recompense gained here would undoubtedly work in the favor of the puppeteer somehow, he could taste it. They all worked like this, with subtle manipulation, they'd pretend to be friendly while infiltrating your camp and learning all you know.

The elf waved her hand at the bird, muttering a spell. The corpse suddenly burst into renewed life, light filling its eyes as it stood back up, letting out a loud caw. It flew off, away from the two. "Yes, she must be a rather powerful necromancer to have such a man bound to her service." She replied calmly, in an almost disinterested manner. Her skin was slowly losing its luster as her emotions stilled. She reached out, and grabbed William's hand. Entheo

The sound of splashing filled the hallow corridors of the sewer.  There was a dripping sound in the distance.  The walls were old moldy and made of brick, yet the smell permeating through the tunnels were not mold but some ungodly combination of death, crap and pollution.  The water was the furthest from blue it could be, a disgusting brown with green in different places.  Small little sidewalks lined each side of the tunnel, with ladders leading to the surface.

"I have to ask," he said, hands in his jacket pocket, staring up at the gum at the ceiling.  "You dragged me on this little adventure to save these kids from their fates, but do you really think you can do it?  What if you can't?  Do you think your some kind of hero?"

Entheo sighed and continued.  "I don't think its bad you know, being a hero.  I always wished I cared more about that sort of thing like other people do.  It goes a little far sometimes, but you can't deny the innocence of it all ya know?"

What is all this?

Your a ghost.  You don't get it.  You don't want my body right now.  It smells like shit in here.

"You know, you've said that about ten times already. Did it look like I cared then? Because I still don't care now." Lawrence lead the way, wiping the foul air away from his nose with a disgusted frown. Of course, that was just playing. He'd already lost his soul's sense of smell long ago, a bit earlier than his sense of taste.

"Like I said, I'm not the time to yap about doing something if I can't actually do it. You keep rambling about hero this, impossible that, Jesus Christ shut up already. I'm really getting the vibes that you're projecting your feelings on me, or just obsessed. Still creepy."

His cane dragged his weak body across the filth and muck. Honestly, he felt right at home. Maybe a rat skewer to chew down on, a meth lab here or there... home sweet home.

You've got some awful tastes.

Hush boi.

The cane was slightly louder than his steps, if only because of how deliberate it was. But suddenly, he stopped with a shrewd smile on his lips.

"I've never cared whether something was impossible or not, and I have no idea what brain damage got you so fixated on that. I will always move forward, it's the only way I know to live. Why do you move your body, boy?"

Entheo

Entheo chuckled and said, "Who knows.  Why do I make my body move huh?"

This place was pretty suited to Entheo as well.  The forgotten grimy nature of this place was similar to a graveyard, even smelled like death too.  If it weren't for the smell, he would say it felt more comfortable than the classroom.

The young man took a deep breath, allowing the simple sensation of life take hold of him.  The smell of whatever was in the sewer filled his nostrils and all the sudden he caught himself wishing he didn't do things without thinking.  Still, as he considered why he was moving his body right in this moment, only one response came to mind.  "I guess I move my body when I want something.  The second I stop wanting something, I enjoy the bliss of not moving.  When I stop caring about anything, I won't ever have to move again."

That sounds depressing when you put it like that.

I mean life is kinda depressing isn't it?

A statement like that is really easy to misunderstand you know.

Maybe, but its not like I care about being understood.

He might scream at you again.

Oh shit.

Just as that thought came to his mind, his eyes widened, embracing the professor's next lecture that he never asked for.  "I mean it though.  Its not really my business to worry about the living and their problems.  I'm only helping out of respect for that passion of yours."

Any change in topic would do.

"But I'm living, and this is my problem. So you do care." He closed his eyes and smiled. Surprisingly, he didn't launch a lecture at the boy or scold him. "You're contradicting yourself. Well, I can't judge. But that apathetic lifestyle... I can't say I'll ever agree with that."

As he kept walking, his smile faded for just a moment.

"Apathy is death."

Living life carelessly like that was a privilege. But being dragged along by the waves without care came with a price. Some found the cost far too heavy. There is nothing blissful about blissful ignorance, that was a painful truth the boy was best to learn now than later.

Entheo

"Contradicting myself huh?  Yeah probably," he said, dodging a strange liquid that fell from the ceiling he was staring at.  "And of course I care.  Why wouldn't I care?"

Probably your attitude.

Huh?  Who cares about my attitude.  My attitude doesn't mean anything in terms of intent right?

Polite society has generated a system of norms in order to communicate the most basic respect to one as designated by society and culture.  When you disregard those, you communicate a basic lack of care for others, despite your intent.

Still sounds like not my problem.

Just answering the question.

Entheo's cool eyes leveled with Lawrance's, his eyelids lowering the second he caught back up with him.  For a moment, the only thing that they could hear was the professor's cane.  Then, Entheo said, "You know I never told you my job.  Grim reaper, shinigami, shaman: whatever you want to call it, the function is the same.  I am responsible for passing people onto the next life and protecting the afterlives of the dead.  If you only move forward because you await release, I can give that too you, no martyring needed."

The tension rose, in fact, it was unbearable.

"Juuuuuust kidding." He closed his eyes with the flattest of joke reveals ever. "Gotta say, I'm surprised you even had to ask. Can't you see spirits? Or I guess you're still kind of immature."

While your sleeping, during your lectures.  I basically went to highschool and college again.  Having an extra six to eight hours while your sleeping helps too.

"Interesting... so you can sense us, and choose not to run?" An unnaturally soft voice whispered gently before a viscous beast revealed itself in the darkness. It crawled on its limbs like some kind of carrion, its eyes like stars and its flesh sickening chaos that melded into a humanoid form. It was too thin and lithe to look wieldy, its appearance was too gnarly to be healthy, and yet an unearthly strength and vigor could be felt from each step.

A monster like this should not have such a gentle voice. It was terrifying to hear something so gentle come from such a beast.

A claw dug into the walls surrounding sewage, scraping against rock horrifyingly. "You are not my prey, boy. The one I want to savor... is the warrior inside you."

There was one more hiding in the darkness.

"These two are quite cocky."  Eyes opened within the darkness, revealing two cat like eyes.  Stepping forward along side the beast was a simple fox girl.  Her tail fluttered back and forth.  Despite her words, the tail wagging was a sign of nervousness.  The second she finished speaking, her eyes darted to the beast then back to the pair.  Raising her hands and clos  "You should have seen them in the lecture, the two getting into some pointless argument about how to deal with grief in the face of tragedy.  After all, in the world after salvation, we won't need such pointless conflict."

Entheo

Its time for our souls to join as one.

The red orb that was Gezo's soul flew into Entheo's chest.  A flash of light enveloped the dimly lit sewer and when it dimmed.... not much had changed actually.  The young man stood as firm as ever, perhaps the only difference being the giant ethereal guandao he held in his right hand, planted on the ground.

"Sorry but we are kind of a package deal," Entheo said, his eyelids lowering as he registered the target.  "Besides, whether you like or not, I have beef with you for desecrating that man's soul.  I don't know what that kid did to you before you killed him, but you don't get to disrespect the dead."

Entheo, we need to mind our enviroment here.  We don't know what his abilities are.  It could be the difference between life and death.

I know.  At least we aren't fighting some god again.

Please stop calling those fights.

Entheo turned to Lawrance and said, "Don't get cocky." Gezo said aloud.  "We don't know each other very well so I think its best we fight separately.  These are assassins.  We can't let them separate us.  Close enough to help, far enough to fight, thats the goal."

Indra

Its eyes did not even acknowledge that man. Why would they? That scrawny body, that looked like it'd fall over any second... it was no concern to him. It would break against the frailest of winds, let alone the hurricane that was Salvation.

"That weakling? I guess it's fitting for trash to dispose of trash." Its claw gleamed under the sewer pipes, and in an instant, they were sliced along with any moisture dripping down. No, it wasn't just the pipes. It was way too freakishly smooth and fast to be recognized, but it's almost like everything was being cut around them. Water, waste, anything around Lawrence Entheo's feet was cut apart a dozen times, yet the slashes and splashes seemed to burst in an instant.

Only slightly before sounds itself erupted against all their surroundings, sending all the water booming upwards with hundreds of droplets flying everywhere. Indra was already behind that curtain, midway to strike Entheo with a beautiful arc! Its speed, strength, and technique were on a whole different level - enough to launch Entheo straight through a dozen walls, far away from Lawrence.

Lawrence

My, my. My, my, my, my, my... It seems expectations are quite high. How am I possibly going to keep up with them?

...Weakling...?

His eyebrow twitched, his teeth grit, and despite his frail body, you could see veins popping on his face and neck. His cane was gripped so hard his fingers might break, and he spun it only once before it caught aflame, sending fires circling around him like a protective ring.

"Bitch... you couldn't even scratch me."

Ana gritted her teeth, the tail wagging even faster.  Indra wasn't even taking this threat seriously.  Would disposing of this one even matter?  A hand reached for the hilt of the blade attached to her hips.  She dashed forward, attempting to close the distance between the two in an instant.

"Scratching is small time.  WE ARE SALVATION and I am its proud blade!"

Entheo

Entheo's eyes widened as the water all rose.  Thank's to Gezo's experience, he knew what was coming, but he was too slow to stop it.  Using as little movement as possible, he raised the guandao in a diagonal block.  The ground exploaded beneath him, concrete flying into the water droplets, popping them like bubbles.  Wall after wall, Entheo's body shook every time his back slammed and broke through each consecutive wall, until one finally broke his momentum and buried him in the rubble.

Holy shit this one is strong.  What do you think our chances are with this one?

Well, he is faster and stronger than us and just as skilled as me potentially, if not more.  I'd say we have a slim to none chance of winning this.

Wow, thats way better than our usual odds.  Don't slack on me Gezo.

"Kah! You scrub should've picked a better spot! Closed areas are my specialty!" He wasn't any slower than the mutt, he waved his hand once and the flames soared like a wave to crash on her left and right. He was right, there was no room to dodge something like this. It was like being crushed by two walls of flame.

That was close... she's freaky fast. Little brother's been at work huh?

It seems so... hey, don't slack off just because you're borrowing this body.

Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch~! I'll do what I want!

Indra

But the black death didn't stop. The beastly warrior swarmed through grime and buck, jumping behind Entheo like some kind of eel to strike in his blind spot. Its movements were unnatural and unpredictable as if every limb was a snake. But there was no mistake the skill behind its strikes was human.

Ana

The sword gleamed as it was unsheathed, drawing a diagonal line from her hip to his neck, stopping mere inches from his face.  The fox girl was picked up by the flames and consumed like a tidal wave crashing down on a human.  A yelp echoed through the sewer but no more.  The smell of burnt skin filled the sewer as the flames coated her entire body.  There was no retort aside from a grimace and a resheathing of her blade.  That hand tightened around the hilt as she firmly planted her feet into the ground so hard that it sank into the floor..  The very concrete beneath her began to disappear under her as it turned to dust.  The moment the concrete exposed her feet, she took a step forward, the blade drawing a line from her hip to his neck once more.

"Die."

Except it was a feint.  The gleaming blade curved down, threatening to cleave his arm from his shoulder and the rest of his body if he wasn't careful.

Entheo

He's quick and nimble.

It looks like he made a mistake.

Whats that?

Except there was no point in attacking Entheo's blind spot.  The sound of metal colliding with metal echoed through the empty sewer as a ethereal Guandao met with the claws of the creature.  Meanwhile, Entheo's shadowy figure emerged from the rubble, shooting bits of concrete everywhere. He is acting as if he is merely fighting me!   The tip of the blade started at the bottom of the ground before being dragged up into the air, drawing an arc from the ground to the ceiling and threatening to cleave the monster in half.

No other thoughts needed to be exchanged.  Entheo understood his earlier folly.  It was a lesson he has learned time and time again.  No tree grows from nothing.  Its roots must draw nutrients from the world around it.  Single cells do not merely add, but multiply until they transcend themselves and become something greater.

"This is unity!"

The flames raged, shifted, and barely warned of the sword coming for him. It slammed against his cane in an instant, launching him back with a powerful blow. "Fuck!" The impact cut his lip, and he slammed on the filthy wall, coughing and hacking hatefully.

But he had seen through the feint. That was the only reason his body wasn't cleaved in half.

"Haah...haah..."

Fine, you want to play? Let's play.

Indra

Sparks illuminated the darkness, gleaming against the beast's eyes. Suddenly, a shockwave launched a wave of grime up the ceiling, as the guandao came to slice the beast in two. It was excellent, a most excellent strike. Moving unorthodoxly, the monster faced the warrior's follow-up slash.

But the monster already saw through it.

And it's foot already grabbed the polearm with a crushing stomp. "Fascinating. So you think I'm alone." Pinned to the ground, Gezo's weapon couldn't reach him. What came was a devastating kick straight at the Entheo's plexus, intent to launch him upwards in the blink of an eye.

BOOM!!

Ana

Ana slowly walked forward, sheathing the blade once more.  Her body was smoking, smoldering.  Yet each step she took left a hole in the concrete, sucking up more and more of the stone.  Strange, it was taking far more mass to heal herself.  That fire was dangerous.  "Your corpse will serve salvation well," she said, gripping the hilt of her blade.  It would be foolish to try to attack recklessly like that again.  "Once this blade cuts through you...."

A tear rolled down her cheek.  "I will be one step closer to salvation."

The fox girl's form blurred, zig zagging this time as it made its approach.  She kept her wrist wrapped around the hilt of the blade, ready to strike again at any time.  Her goal was to close the distance, land just in front of him.

Entheo

"Are you kidding me?" Entheo yelled as he watched the creature move.  "What do you mean not alone?"

Entheo let go of the weapon the second he registered his pull.  It was simply far too strong for him to resist.  Thankfully while the dodge was out of the blue, the strike was relatively straightforward.  Gezo's experience allowed him to see the attack coming simply from the muscles moved and start tilting his torso to the side to dodge.  However he was too slow.  Entheo was knocked a step back as the strike buried into his chest, narrowly dodging the pressure point.

Entheo raised his hands, ready to fight the man.  Gezo.  We can't win this fight like this.

Perhaps but we have to keep trying.

No listen.  I'm not giving up.  I have a plan.

Alright.

His eyes gleamed a bright orange, and with a snap of his fingers, a handful of arrows shot forward from different angles. They were quick, closing in on the fox girl in the form of a volley of fire-spears. He'd have to quickly form a magic circle on the ground in her way, to burn her with a fiery pillar the second she avoided that.

Indra

"Oh, you didn't realize? It was so adorable, when you had those souls guided to the afterlife. I honestly wanted to keep you in the dark, but.."

The creature trashed over the waters and splashed unpredictably. Swirling and swaying, it dashed to Entheo's left with a claw ready to slash the boy - but the attack was meant to lead into him thrusting the spear straight into him with his foot. Every one of the monster's limbs was capable of masterfully wielding anything. It was like facing a living weapon that could strike from any angle and position.

"Souls taken by me can never reach paradise, their purgatory will forever be my claws. Young boy... you guided them all to my belly. They are me."

The blows came far faster and heavier than you could possibly imagine. The beast was hungry.

Ana

The blur that was the fox girl zipped back and forth along the concrete, slipping through the arrows shot in each direction.  Left, right straight, even bouncing against the wall to dodge one oncoming arrow, that was easy.  Her eyes widened as she saw the ground in front of her glow red with energy.  It was too late to stop... unless....

The fox girl began sinking into the ground.  Normally, she wouldn't need to absorb so much biomass.  However, her skin still hadn't healed for some reason.  Therefore, this much wouldn't hurt her.  The concrete disintegrated beneath her and she sunk even further underground.  To Lawrance, she was gone.

Entheo

"There is no way to tell anymore. Those born here might not know the feeling, but many of us were all stripped from our worlds and thrown into an illogical situation. If this world has a will, it probably doesn't follow natural conventions... that includes the law of the fittest. It doesn't matter how strong you are, there will always be something ready to take you down and try to devour you."

Yeah.  I feel that too, he thought, staring into the monster's mouth as he spoke.

The claw came towards the side of his face and Entheo ducked under it, only to be met with another strike to the chest, this time the blade.  Entheo had abruptly changed styles, using the nimbleness of custard alongside his own street fighting experience, bobbing under his strike, but it wasn't enough to compensate for the man's sheer power and speed.  The base of the guandao was caught by two hands absorbing the brunt of the stab, even with his ghostly body fingers ripped apart by the thrust.  The blade dug into his chest, blood trickling from his chest.

"I am scared. To be honest, I can't stop shaking. The trauma of losing something precious, the shame of having one's dignity stripped away... I know that feeling too well. I am a coward. Sometimes, even the mightiest of lions falls prey to terror. But to live... to thrive... is to overcome that fear."

I hate that I failed them.  I don't want to live inside him either.   I don't even want to die.  If I have to die, I want the afterlife.  I only wish I could have saved them too.  I've never thought about whether i'm a coward or not, but it still shakes me in moments like this. But...

Tears rolled down Entheo's cheeks, but he still smiled.  Sadness, trauma, anger, vitriol.  It will come and go.  Time and time again, I have faced pain and suffering for both myself and others.  These moments of strife I remember just as intensely as moments of my greatest happiness. I think... thats because they are part of that happiness.

Blades materialized in Entheo's hands, coming down in an X arc and threatening to cleave through his limbs.  The creature would either have to let go of the guandao or lose the limbs.

"You can't save everyone."

As the fist came closer, the tears came down harder.  "Then lets make this their funeral."

Indra

"I like you." The attack was intercepted admirably, and the counter was beautiful, in its own way. But the monster had already devoured such techniques. Techniques even more glorious than this. Brave heroes, the mightiest of them all, all fell to the beast.

Passion.

Technique.

Power.

They had it all. Wondrous warriors of all eras. So why did they die? Why did Indra come out on top?

The black beast let go of the lance and spun faster than you could blink. It was then, as its feet smacked against Entheo's jaw - that they'd learn of the true terror of this monster. It wasn't its overwhelming technique. It wasn't its unsurpassed speed. It wasn't even its ungodly brute force. This disaster couldn't be categorized as merely fast, skilled or strong.

Because Indra's power was genuine.

Blows to the jaw had the power to rattle a man's brain. The shaking from the impact was enough to seriously concuss a man even without their strength differences.

Damn... this wasn't good. A glancing blow almost knocked the life out of him. The moment she started sinking, he made a run for it. You'd never think a man as frailas him would slam his feet on grimy muck so intensely, but he ran. Faster, faster than you'd ever believe. After all, he was a coward, hiding in the shadows and squirming in a place like this was second nature.

"But I hate to dissappoint... I suck at dying." For a second, the golden glow in his eyes shifted to a different color. And that's when he stopped.

Well shit.

A dead end. He ran as fast as he could, but it was no use. He hit a wall that he just couldn't overcome. End of the line.

Where the hell are you, damn fox.

Sweating bullets, he spread out and looked all over around him, taking a low stance. His fingers conjured a burning cross, floating just above his fingers. The moment the flame would shift, it would warn him of her strike.

"Haaah...haah...hahah... that's right, you were in my class weren't you... that damn know-it-all. Your type pissed me off then and it pisses me off now."

Entheo

"The fact that innocent people had to face that trauma is unforgivable... I can promise nothing of an uncertain future. But I swear on my life, on every drop of blood in my marrow, that the ones responsible for this will not touch a hair of my pupils again."

I like that dream of yours.

The blades disappeared as Entheo reached for the swords, not even bothering to dodge the leg flying towards his face.  It struck like a hammer to the chin, causing a crack to echo through the narrow sewer corridors.  The young man's head reeled back, staying conscious not from biological function, but sheer instinct to live and willpower.  Even so, his body was flung into the air, slaming into yet another sewer wall.

"You can't save everyone.  Everyone who is given the gift of life has to one day deal with the possibility of death.  The world gives and takes on its own time.  You can't save anyone from that reality, nor should you.  Because one day, everyone here will die."

A voice called out from the rubble.  "You know," Entheo said, his voice muffled by the rubble.  "Even after all you've done, I don't hate you either."

The ceiling of the sewer, the very road traveled by so many people on the surface began to crumble and fall, allowing the cruel sun to shine its illuminating light on the sewer.  The murky water was revealed to be brown against the sun's rays, yet the surface shimmered when struck by its light.  All of the grime and dirt was revealed by the sun as well. Graffiti, normally covered by layers of muck was now barely visible through the cracks.

"Just because people will die should deter us from saving others? This logic is flawed. Should science not progress to heal the sick? Should people not strive to share their wealth to the needy? Boy... what you are talking about is nothing more than shallow-minded pessimism. You ignore the fact that humans can be better."

Just this once, why don't we play the hero.

Are you kidding me?  We play the hero all the time.  You just keep telling yourself that your a good grim reaper and can stay out of things like a "good boy."

I'm just not one to mettle in someone else's death.

You asked if he was a hero before.  Personally, I don't think it matters what he calls himself.  To take responsibility for someone's safety, their happiness.  Thats what makes someone a hero, a person beyond a mere good citizen.

Yeah.  Lawrance....  Let me take share your dream, just for a moment.  I owe you that much as your slacking student.  This monster....  We've overcome walls like this and we can do it again.  So...  Shall we exchange the same words from back then?

Entheo stood up, the rubble shooting in every direction.  Taking a low bent stance, the unified being of Entheo and Gezo held the guandao diagonally in front of him.  The light of the sun reflected off of the tip of the guandao, casting a spec of refracted light onto the beast.

"Whether it be the warrior in front of you," Gezo said.  Blood flowed from his mouth and trickled down his broken chin.  Despite having his jaw dislodged, he was still able to speak.  Thats because he wasn't merely speaking from his mouth, but his very soul.  "Or the very gods above...."

The young man took one step forward.  The concrete beneath him gave way to his steps.  It was as if the ground itself was being struck by his retribution.  Entheo reeled back his arm, prepared slash his opponent down the middle.  "Nothing decides your future other than the will of your soul!"

However, that stance was a lie.  When the slash came down, it was a cresant arc, designed to cleave off the creature's head from his neck and take several limbs with it, including the legs at the end.  "If fate deems you too weak..."  Hiding within the shadow of Entheo's arm was another, Gezo's arm.  As the slash came down, several thrusts hid within the echo of the slash, striking at the beast's torso.  "Then tear through that future with your own two hands....

"And go beyond reality!"

Ana

Strange.  The red headed girl couldn't help but think back to that classroom debate.  Since joining salvation, she tried to be the perfect soldier, working day in and out to curve her loyalty, her desires.  Discipline, following the rules, order: by emboding this herself, she could spread this salvation to the world.  A soldier should suit their role.  Why the hell did that stupid teacher feel the need to argue with some bum he picked up off the street?  He wasn't in that class!  Everyone knew he wasn't in that class!  That was the loiterer that was crashing with a guy who lives on campus!

Up, down, the walls: where would the fox girl spawn from.  Despite her wandering mind, her senses were completely trained on Lawrance.  Her own emotional strength was such that she could sort out these complicated feelings without distraction, because that was the weight given to the soldier.  The ceiling dissolved and Ana already tilted downwards, ready to strike.  "Because you are a soft fool with no discipline, no will?" she asked, proudly revealing her location to him.  "A teacher who fights with their students..."

As she came down, she reached for the hilt of her blade.  A circle was carved in the air from her blade, cocked back so that it was in a ready position at her hip for a thrust.  The second she came in range, it came forward, threatening to pierce Lawrance's heart.  "Is no match for me!"

Indeed, the world of salvation had no room for a man like this.

"Yeah... I knew you'd be here. That's why I thought dragging him along would be better."

You can't save everyone.  Everyone who is given the gift of life has to one day deal with the possibility of death.  The world gives and takes on its own time.  You can't save anyone from that reality, nor should you.  Because one day, everyone here will die.

"You damn... heheh.... no way... am I going... to die? Argh...!" A sudden ache pierced the man's head. But it was already too late.

Earlier

As the flames shifted, he moved. Moved as fast as he could, as desperately as he could... and summoned an inferno to deflect her strike.

It isn't enough.

What the-! She's coming! Damn it! It wasn't enough!

Fires danced and lashed out. The two moved incredibly fast, blurring across the tight space. And yet, the beast reached for him. Was it because his mind was strained? Or perhaps a difference in ability? The slight delay caused by his weakness gave Ana the opening to strike. The sword came for him. End of the line.

I will protect you.

But -

No. Don't come out! I don't need anyone else! I can do this... on my own!

Alone, we will not reach it. Our salvation must be grabbed and ripped from their hands. Even if that brings out the part of you that you detest the most. Let's attain victory. Together.

"Toge..ther?"

Together.

The sword had already pierced the man's heart. The rest was darkness.

A strange black ooze dripped from his body as if it were ink. But Lawrence didn't move at all, pinned to the wall by Ana's blade. He was dead. No, he had already died, years ago. In another world. By all rights, he shouldn't even be here. That is why this was so absurd.

"Do you despise me, Ana?"

The whole area instantly turned chill, as the black ink fell from his hair, revealing a pure snow white. Two eyes as black as the void stared right at Ana. Eyes belonging to that man, eyes she had seen before she had turned into... this. The man who shouldn't be here, who shouldn't be alive, who should have fallen by her sword. It was familiar, but it was wrong. Every bad feeling she ever had about him was nothing compared to the feeling of being this close to that thing. The man smiled.

"Hatred... is perfectly fine. It is a highly efficient fuel when traversing certain goals. It's certainly more reliable than love, at the very least. I can relate to you very well. I have been a slave to hatred for many, many long years. You see, I simply could not stomach myself at the time."

A brash, hopeful, cavalier heart. A pitiful, broken, blackened heart. And an unstoppable, immutable, ravenous heart. A father, a son, and a holy spirit. Three sides of the same coin, yet they never faced the same direction. It was only that one thing that linked them together. A prayer from long ago, whose origin was forgotten even by them.

Let us attain victory.

She couldn't move, let alone yank the sword out of his chest. And that's when she saw it. The black beast coiled around her body, like a mass of chains wrapped around her and swirling until they covered her like armor. It came from his shadow... but the shadow was over her skin. It was only under her because his flames moved it there, even if it meant having to take a sword to the chest. To attain certain victory, he'd go as far as sacrificing his own self. Because this entire time, there was only one man - one soul.

"I need no salvation. May happiness never reach me as I walk this path all by my lonesome. I will gladly deny such a thing if it meant reaching my dream." The man in front of Ana didn't even look human anymore. It was a monster. A genuinely terrifying thing that shouldn't be there, from some unknowable world where everything was wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong! The teacher trapped the student in a black box. Slowly compressing it. Gradually. Until the spikes started to sink into her flesh.

And that's when she realized why it was so wrong. It was the same voice she heard when she was turned. Hearing it again made it all start to come back. The memories. The fear. All of it.

"No. I will not say it is a dream. Because it has already become reality. So please do your best."

Indra

Foolishness. The beast took a low stance and exploded into motion, ready to intercept the boy's lance with his own flurry of thrusts. At the time, did he fail to see through the feint? No. He had certainly perceived it. The dual nature of the attack wasn't unseen either. What he failed to account for... was the scope of that boy's willpower.

Their surroundings exploded from the clash, but the first one to draw blood this time was Indra. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? His body, his limbs, while their bone wasn't reached, their flesh had certainly tasted the bite of the godslayer duo's twin Guandaos.

"Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiihiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!! Hyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghhh kaaaaarghhhh!" A shallow cut on its neck split open, and countless other ones. Even as Indra's limbs tried to deflect all of this, it wasn't prepared for this sudden burst of strength. It couldn't brace itself fast enough to avoid its body being opened up and launched away in the sewer, like disposable trash. It squirmed, screamed and trashed in pain like an insect, disgustingly screaming - but it managed to avoid crippling strikes.

That's when Entheo noticed it as well. His body was also covered by shallow cuts, bleeding, and revealing the exposed flaws of his style. He had bridged the gap, but this was a mistake. Because Indra's interest was the last thing a warrior should ever wish for.

"Ka. Kaka, kakakakakaka! I haven't used that man's techniques in such a long time. In'ei's... the spearmanship of Hōzōin-ryū." The beast panted and instantly took its low stance again, facing the boy.  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNKQPnc4Ris)Its hands faced forward with its knuckle pointed at the boy. It was as if he was holding some kind of invisible lance. No, Entheo could see it now.

But it was a lie. Because this entire time, Indra fought empty handed.

"Which one would you like to experience next, boy? Sasaki Kojiro? Miyamoto Musashi? Lu Bu? Sun Wu Kong?"

For the first time, he acknowledged Entheo as a prey worth devouring.

Ana

The blade sunk into the man's chest, pinning him to the wall.  Ana smiled with smug satisfaction as she drank in the victory.  "See?  Its the natural way of the world.  Disipline will always win out.  Salvation is inevitable."

The foxgirl turned to walk away, her steps barely registering among the cold concrete.  A black ooze coated her dainty toes and the girl looked down at her feet before slowly turning behind her.  Eyes widened and a indescribable chill ran down her spine.  The foxgirl's heart throbbed so intensely that it legitimately felt like it would burst from her chest, as if her vital organs could somehow comprehend this monstrosity more than she ever really could.  If that was the case, then death was the better option.

"N-no father I could never I-"

Ana grasped her own head, her right eye twitching, her entire body shaking.  "Hatred?  Father do I hate you?!  No Father I hate that teacher..  I will kill him for you father I-  AHHHHHHH!"  Her screams ran through the entire sewer, her body consumed with black fire.  Her skin melted away, leaving only thin musculature and bone.

"Lawrance you..." she started, pressing her hands against the box she suddenly found herself trapped in with bloodshot eyes.  "YOU FOOL!  YOU THINK YOU CAN KEEP ME HERE!  I'll kill you!  You can't kill me like this!  You pretentious little shit!  Who do you think you are!?"

Then, she saw the eyes and realized the true horror of her situation.  "N-no.  W-what are you?"

The black spikes began to sink into her skin, yet she could no longer bleed.  Tears fell from what remained of her cheeks.  Many times, this girl found herself crying, sometimes for no reason.  But in this moment, this second, she understood all too well why.

Entheo

Entheo stood up, his heart pounding.  Blood was still coming from his jaw, dripping down and tainting the already murky waters with his crimson body fluids.  There was also the stab wound to the chest.  After all of that, it was starting to catch up to him.  Every pump to his heart radiated pain throughout his entire body like a current of electricity.

What is this sensation?

Survival instinct, fear, the dread of facing a wall.

No we are... my life is flashing before my eyes.

25 years earlier... (Skippable)

Even though it was a full moon, no one could see it from behind the layers upon layers of dark clouds, crackling with thunder and lightning.  If the clouds were obscuring the sky, then the rain was obscuring the space between people.  A dense wall of heavy rain made even the buildings surrounding a person seem far away.  The raindrops slammed into the earth, filling the normally quiet night with the drumming of droplets.  Even in a barrage of rain in which the roars of engines could not be heard, a single babies cry pierced the pouring rain.

"Oh thank god."  A young woman's voice said in emphatic joy.  Yet in the rain, it merely sounded like a whisper.  "He... I thought he would die in birth..."

At first, it appeared as if the baby was being held in her husband's arms, his glowing smile radiating through the darkness, but no.  The crying baby was sitting atop a mountain of trash, crying its lunges out.  "Jason!  Jason!  Where is he!"

The young woman reached out and wrapped her arms around the baby.  "Don't cry.  Mommy's got y-"

But her arms went through the baby.  A hand touched her transparent body. It was the only hand that could ever really touch her.  Jason shook his head and said, "We are dead dear.  You died giving birth.  C'mon.  We can figure out another way to parent him we ca-"

"NO!" she yelled, covering the baby's entire body with her own in a big bear hug.  Of course, her body sunk into the baby's a little bit, but the tears still flowed.  "I.... I will stay by his side... always.  Do you hear me Entheo?  Your mommy will always be there for you."

And yet, the cries that came after her could be heard even over the baby's, drowning it out amongst the other things.  "Always."

That wasn't your life.  That was a memory you kept from when you fused with your mother's soul.

Entheo watched the man stand to his feet.  The second he saw that stance, his eyes widened.  As the demon bragged, it all came together.  The comment about fighting alone, he finally understood what he meant.  They weren't just fighting him, but all the techniques he stole from other masters, all the souls he consumed.  Entheo and Gezo could practically see the spirits of the countless fallen masters behind that man, standing over them like true phantoms.

Goddamn it why isn't it ever easy?

Shut up and prepare yourself.  We bought ourselves a chance.  We have to see it through.

Entheo gripped the guandao, sharpening his eyes in complete focus.  Right.

The sun beyond the sun lit a sea of clouds above the clouds.  An enormous man stood over the throne, his pupil's shaped by lightning bolts.  The man's aura alone was enough to create mountains and shape planets, his glare capable of erasing the most powerful warriors.  The "floor" that was the clouds opened up and Entheo, caked in blood with a sword through his chest marched through.  Two hands grasped the hilt of the blade in his chest and ripped it out without hesitation.  The young man's glare met the god's unforgiving gaze.

"You complete waste of space.  You think wiping out that man's family, his home, his everything was going to make me let you use my body?"

"I'm weary of your tone.  You are a spirit vessel, a mere tool to be used by the gods.  Your mind, opinion, nothing matters but your body, which when perfected will allowME to kill Hades.  "Now I will ask you again, may I join with you?"

"Next time I see jesus, i'll ask him where to find a good crucifix for you."

"Very well.  Tell me, do you know what it feels like to be atomized?"

Good lord,  Entheo thought.  I think he likes me.  I kind of hate it when they like me.  Its way easier if they hate me, way more fun.

Tell me Entheo... Do you hate him yet, this man who took those warriors like that girl took your parents?

No.  Of course not.  Just like Lawrance, I can see his passion.  But we can't let him go.

Entheo gritted his teeth, then grinned.  Yes, he was still enjoying this from the bottom of his heart.  "Pick whichever one you want," he said, spitting out some blood that collected in his mouth.  It hurt to talk.  "We'll show you Sakuyomi's technique."

Using the guandao, Entheo drew a slash across his torso, threatening all the vital points in that area.  Meanwhile, a flurry of targeted stabs followed in the shadow of that slash, aiming for his limbs, throat and legs.  They weren't just air slashes, but attacks that defied range itself.  The slashes and stabs were delivered as if he was in range, but far beyond the length of the guandao.

"Let the souls you violated be at peace."

Lawrence

"Oh! Your color isn't bad."

His black eyes sparked with curiosity, then fascination. Despite that, his expression was far colder than you'd expect. It was as if she were some kind of experiment, one he was prodding and testing from every angle without care.

"Sadness, regret, anger... it points in multiple directions, but it all goes back to the source. I see, what a wonderful symphony of life." His cold hand touched the Grail King - now taking the form of an iron maiden. It was almost a longing touch. Almost.

Then, a flame flashed over the sword posed in his ribcage. He touched it with his burning palm, slowly melting it until the tip detached from the rest, letting him move freely. He just took out the edge of the sword he melted off like it was no big deal. Inside, his body was revealed empty like a porcelain doll.

"Don't worry. I'm not heartless enough to rip a beautiful flower, even if it was trampled from the start. Even if it's for a lie, your sword was determined to kill me just now. It would be an insult to your pride if I didn't do this much, mmm?"

The grail king's spikes disappeared as well, leaving the fallen girl in a cold, dark, constricted place. Oddly enough, she had no actual wounds to show on her body. She was alive, though barely. After all, a teacher shouldn't end - but elevate a student's potential. He put the blade up and toyed with it absent-mindedly, only to walk away, leaving the girl alone with her memories coming back to crumble her weak psyche. It wasn't her body, but the life force connected to Zeke that he had just gnawed open with that black box. She was free to flee, attack him, or die. Ah, but moving with her spirit gnawed off to this extent would probably be difficult, even for her.

"Heh. Sleep there a while longer, my cute little daughter. I have an idiot to save."

"Oh Lawrence you really ought to work on your acting. It's quite embarrassing to see. Your blunders have made me come out now, and you now what that means don't you? Before the time is ripe, or perhaps it is, only the distant stars beyond the peak of the tower knows."

He was just there. Right besides the trap confining the fox girl. He definitely hadn't been there a second ago, or anywhere near there, or maybe he had....

And as he appeared the black box shattered into a million pieces.

"This game has gone on long enough, the Myrmidons are reaching the end of their usefulness. Only Nidhogg has any value left, and even he is a mere distraction in this grand tapestry."

There was nothing, nothing that could be gleamed from him. His form was nothing, nothing but darkness and shadows, and his voice was the abyss, something that could never exist in this world, that shouldn't exist.

And he was undoubtedly human.

Indra

"Oooooh! I'm so gladddddd... to be able to cut someone such as you." The two were poised in a battle stance, like a standoff in front of a ticking time bomb. A disgusting aura of rot and death permeated the air, as if sucking something straight into the monster's mouth. It was smiling. They both knew, the first one to strike... would be the one reaping the rewards.

BOOM!

The first slash came down like a storm, cleaving water air, and earth alike. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F80oXtJA3f0) Indra dodged it nimbly on one leg, pleasantly surprised by the strength and speed. It was good, very good. Much better than that bounty hunter's data suggested.

But the ghostly thrusts came next. Those surprised him. Constantly on the move, he retaliated with a flurry of jabbing strikes, flickering against the blades as if he was wielding one himself. That's when he noticed the shallow cuts on his arms and hands. Even if his spear could deal with Entheo's, it was foolishness to think Indra could do it unscathed. Hmm. Too good maybe. Parrying and dodging, grotesque mass zipped about like a black arrow, barely avoiding the hurricane of death. And the cuts also multiplied, carving the black mass over time, a little deeper by the second.

But never deep enough to turn the tides. They were in a stalemate. It was impossible to tell the blood from the sewage, but there was no denying the murderous intent coming for Entheo. Slowly but surely, the distance decreased.

"Haaa...this pain... you are good boy. So very juicy. I'm sure you will be tender and gamey, just like that old man."

Impossible, was it getting faster?

Lawrence

The immense pressure had crashed on the eldritch horror, causing its eyes to sway happily. Not that the white husk could smile, seeing as its shape was still closer to its true form. It was probably best not to try to comprehend the rest of the colors and shapes displayed on it.

"What did you saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy?? I'll let you know my acting is top notch! Top notch!!" The carvings on Lawrence's form ripped out and formed the burning bird, intent on charging head-on to barbecue the shadow. "CHEEP CHEEP MOTHERFUCKERRRR!!" Of course, Lawrence just casually grabbed its tail with three fingers, keeping it flapping and struggling indignantly.

"Goodness, goodness. I never expected you to come to a place like this. But blunders? I'll let you know I've been working tirelessly and diligently at slacking off in the least productive way possible." Lawrence smiled knowingly at the newcomer, as if he had just been caught with his pants down by an old friend. No, even that sounded deliberate.

It was almost like this blunder of his wasn't accidental at all.

The broken box reformed itself soon enough, this time back as the proud black lion it usually was. It silently came by Lawrence's side and took the shape of a chair. A chair which he gladly rested on, all while cajoling the resisting bird against its will. He might not look like it, but even lifting a fork was a herculean task for this body, so resting was quite enjoyable.

"Is that the name he goes by now? Ah, what a useless son I've brought into this world. If it calls itself the thousand changes, the least it could do is change into something useful. Anyway, how are you doing? We don't get to talk too often as of late. Eating well?"

Entheo

"Really?  You think i'll be that tasty?  Makes me wonder what Son gok- I mean Sun Wu Kong tasted like," he said, reeling back his guandao.  Entheo could feel the fatigue, his mind begging him to just stop moving, to end it all, yet another part screaming at him to flee.  However, the young man stood firm.

Where did that come from?

Not the time!  We are doing the thing!

Wait you mean that thing?  I thought you said it scared you when people like you like him.  I don't blame you I mean look at him.  Ugh.

Shut up! Gotta take on your fears head on right?

Well.... ok.

Gezo's massive ghostly frame emerged from Entheo's leaner body, his own Guandao grasped by both hands, the tip pointed towards the beast.  Preforming a front flip who's speed and agility betrayed his massive size, he tossed the guandao into the air and grabbed Entheo by the hips as he bounced from his hands to his feet, all in one fluid motion.  Entheo's body became a bullet that surpassed all bullets, complete with a massive spear at the tip.  Meanwhile, Gezo prepared a slash with the guandao flowed perfectly from the end of the movement, drawing a diagonal line across his body.

"You know, if you do kill us, I would be honored to see more before that happens," he said, his eyes soft, but belying a cold blood lust.  Unlike Entheo, who did not harbor any ill will towards the person itself, Gezo genuinely seemed to be trying to erase the beast from existence with his eyes alone.

Ana

The fox girl fell on all fours, hyperventilating.  Her fast breath and animal like wheezes threatened to overwhelm the conversation.  A hand was held to her throat, as if she was trying to steady her breath with her own two hands.  Although, the gesture only seemed to make it worse, as she continued to breath heavier and heavier with her palm there.  Her other hand was pressed against her chest, measuring her own heart beat.

She didn't even notice that the box was gone.

"I'm sorry but it seems I misspoke." He said as he begun moving towards Lawrence, although his cloaked form made it impossible to tell whether he was walking floating forwards. No even the faintest trace could be heard from his approach as if the darkness itself had swallowed it.

"The real blunder is mine, I shouldn't have put this much faith in you my old friend, not after how much trouble you always get into. Now what would you have done if that boy hadn't been a match for Indra and I hadn't arrived?" He reached Lawrence and-

He merely slid past him, heading int the direction of the other fight.

"But that's just it, you were counting on me to bail you out again, and you were right for once. Indra may be number 1, but 1 cannot exist without 0."

SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH

The very air itself along with the water was swept along with the sudden firing of the hypersonic shadow bullet. it left nothing but empty space in it's wake, most people would call that vacuum, but for those unfortunate enough of to experience it, it was a hellish drowning experience except much worse.

Indra

How long had it been since his body had been carved like this? Recognizing Gezo's motion, Indra braced itself and advanced with shining eyes, slithering across the grime like a rotting eel that didn't have the capacity to stop. That's when it noticed it.

It's breathing was getting heavier. The wounds ached. There was a stirring in their loins that hadn't been touched for too long. "COME!"

Gezo's form shone like a feast of feasts, even as it launched that boy. The lance reflected against its white eyes... and the beast's bones and limbs snapped into motion like a whip. In a sudden boom, Entheo and Indra were cracking against the water.

SLASH!!

Desolate summer
Fallen, warriors slaughter
before the eaten

The summer field yielded a bountiful harvest. But a lone creature stood atop the corpses. The warring tribes that had killed again and again and again, how many orphaned children had these wars caused?

These souls were never loved.

These souls were never laid to rest.

So they fight.

Slash.

They kill.

Splat.

Eat and eat and eat and eat. Become stronger, stronger than anyone. So they can show this unfair world just how strong they are.

"It's not enough. I still need more experience, to reach my perfection... let this illogical world tear asunder!"

The souls of those who weren't saved. Those who were failed to be saved. They all cried in unison, praying for the same wish. Power. Enough power to never be eaten again, where only the strong would eat and be eaten eternally. And so, the children of the night dance under the new world's strings.

Indra's blood was dripping into the ground. His intestines coiled around the side of his belly. However.

"Gottttttttttttt yooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu~!"

Indra moaned in its climax. It wasn't a square blow. Indra had bent like a snake to avoid the stab, snapping unnaturally, so that the side of its stomach would be slashed to avoid the killing blow. The deciding factor wasn't skill or power, but a difference in nature. Because of that, his foot grabbed Entheo's heel as the tip hit the ground, and its hands swung separately like dual katanas. Niten Ichi-ryū - Two peerless blades under the heavens style. No, no swords, only hands.

He used that to deflect the Guandao - and force the swing back to Indra's side! Smiling in ecstasy, the beast drooled and pulled the boy straight at Gezo's neck like a nunchuck. Countless heroes, warriors from many worlds... he had fought them and eaten them and more, yes. They were all here, swinging their blades even now.

But none of them, none of them.... made him feel such happiness.

"GUESS WHO IS BACK!"

SMAAAAAAASH!

The wall behind Indra burst away as a black Shadow crashed right into Salvation's so called greatest warrior and threw him across the room, and the Shadow came to a halt in front of Entheo with it's back turned to him.

SWIIIIRL.

Then the air and stinky sewer water came rushing in through the hole that the shadow had made, like a hurricane of garbage it blasted the hole even bigger and flew over the heads of Entheo and the Shadow, all of it hurled towards where Indra had been thrown.

"How fitting, the one whose ideals were trash became one with the trash, such is the Will of the World."

Entheo

A sense of accomplishment washed over Entheo's body.  The plan worked.  After trying all sorts of different tactics and pushing himself to the brink with his willpower alone something finally cracked the monster's defenses.  The young man smiled.

Then, he felt the creature's hand on his ankle and heard that moan.  Oh no..... he's moaning.  Gezo help.

Face your fear right?

"No no no no," he said, his eyes wide as he was flung into Gezo.  The spirit dissipated on contact, returning to the origin point that is their now shared soul.  Something struck Indra in that moment, sending him flying across the sewer.  With a twist, the young man landed on his feet.  He brushed himself off, cleaning the muck and grime, but he realized he was wet, both from blood and the sewer water.

"Oh thank god," he said before raising his eyebrow at his savor.  "Do I know you?"

What?

It sensed the disturbance in the air, and flicked its wrist at the last second to slam Entheo behind him. But it was already too late. Or rather, the difference in speed denied Indra's counter.

SLAM!!

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

It was swept away, with dozens of creatures hiding in the shadow dragged away by the tidal waves. And the rest was darkness.

"...I am the hero."

SWOOOOOOSH.

The man rushed forward with the same ungodly speed, his form was swift and his pursuit legendary, the prey would not escape. And with a single step the shadow had crossed the distance and blocked Indra's escape.

SMAASH-

The creatures that were aiding his escape had all burst into pieces as he passed.

"Poor poor Indra, something as unrefined as those organism will not save you. You are weak and you always has been, because you don't know the true meaning of strength.""

Entheo

Ignored.

"Well I guess you are my hero then," he shouted, snickering to himself.  "Just don't eradicate his soul or anything and I think you can keep calling yourself that.  Try not to make his death too painful!"

Seriously, I thought I was goner there.

Well its all over now.

No, not yet.

Entheo clasped his hands together.  He wasn't sure what sort of god Indra believed in, but a prayer was something he deserved.  The ground beneath him began to glow with an orange light.  The young man took a deep breath, letting the air circulate through his lunges.  The orange light touched the remains of all the creatures and forced them to evaporate into white sparkles, fading into the void.  "I'm sorry you all got caught up in all of this.  Your afterlives... I hope you enjoyed them.  In a way I admire you all, living your lives with such steadfast loyalty, such passion.  I only wish I could have done more for you."

The light grew bigger before shooting through everything above ground and into the sky.  I guess I still have to get stronger then, he thought to himself.  First we need to stop bleeding out.  We should probably back that guy up.

Didn't you hear him?  He is the hero.  I'm sure he can handle it.  We should find Lawrance.

Lawrence - at the same time

Wha-!?

That dark man's boom was too fast, the shockwave alone had ripped every ounce of air from Lawrence's lungs, causing a stifled whistle to escape his body as the vacuum compressed his chest. Limping, he fell to the ground and wiped a grimy lock from his face. "Haaah... How troublesome. You're a real pain sometimes, you know? Not that I mind... compared to that place, even this is refreshing."

Gh...khhh!

The burning bird choked and gagged, writhing in pain from the suffocating sensation. It was like drowning, trying to move away from the waves only to be dragged back by something. Truthfully, it was an experience he didn't want to live again. But his body was already dead. So he moved to the girl quietly, whose air was surely ripped from her lungs as well, and crouched by her body to heal her up. Rather, he was ripping life essence from his surroundings, and forcefully feeding it into her so she wouldn't die. He looked at her like a piece of meat, like everything that just happened was of no consequence. To Lawrence, this was Tuesday.

This did get a small smile on his face. A kind, hopeful one, even as his tattoos forced more life into her.  As all of this happened, the fight raged on, far far away. "Ah. Normally, your body should have housed someone else. It's a pity, you managed to retain some individuality. That's why you're still yourself. ...Can you hear them?"

Glowing eyes revealed themselves around the two. Crawling back from where they were smashed up, dragging themselves away from the darkness. They had the same smell as her, even as they crawled closer and started climbing the professor, latching onto him like a dozen oversized slugs.

"Shako. Ethan. Sumiko. They all have names, Ana." Even as you could hear the booming sounds of battle, his expression was as unphased as ever. "Oh my. So it's the end of Reshma. She dreamed of becoming a princess, you know?"

It felt their lives being snuffed out. It was enough to nearly move him to tears. Nearly.

Indra

The creatures were cut down mercilessly, only to melt back into the void whence they came. Only Indra remained, surely rattled by the previous tackle. Surely...

The creature rose. No, it didn't even bother correcting its position, it rose on its hands and took a Sanchin Kata stance with its feet raised like fists. Its neck snapped eerily... but even more than before, its bulbous white eyes gleamed like stars, and the air kept rotting around the two. Only vapor seeped from where he was struck, as if the impact had been diffused.

"Ah, I must be blessed. To have two feasts undress before me in one day."

But... I'm rather full for tonight. How troublesome. I might have to use it.

As it noticed the rays of the sun seeping through the sewage, the revolting sound of insects escaped its throat. Was that... a laugh? "Please, would you kindly step aside?"

Ana

Fuzzy, dark, smelly, grimy, sweaty, discussed.

Those were the sensations Ana felt when her fox eyes opened ever so slightly.  It hadn't been that long at all.  She expected to be in a hospital bed, or more likely the void beyond this world.  No, a personal hell created by that man would be far worse than the void.  Her body was still shaking.  It was as if her body was imagining that fate in vivid detail and refused to stop shaking in fear.

Then she saw that face.

"KYYYYYYYAAAAAAA!!!!!!" she yelped, leaping back into a crawling stance on all fours.  "What?!  WHAT?!  HEAR WHO?  The souls of the dead?"

Lawrence

The eldritch humanoid mass that was once Lawrence didn't blink. It didn't stare. It peered right into Ana's life essence and gleamed an unknowable expression, one that reeked of irradiated sea beasts and burnt seas.

It took one step towards the cowering girl.

"In a sense. All of us, we're voyagers. This body was like a journey to me, you know? Traveling through bodies to finally reach the end. That's the thing about traveling, you always wind up in the same place, don't you? Where do you think that is?"

The grail king's paws pressed on Ana, preventing her escape. She was alive, good. Very good. He didn't really want to do this, but with that man's arrival, he had to respond appropriatedly. It was a subtle shift of his hands, he pulled something from his hands. A rib. A corpse-like rib, that belonged to a very dear brethren of his, one who had shifted from one too many bodies. This was the last one, and the one closest to Ana. The one suitable for his needs. But it was too much, was that man so vile he'd free her from one chain, only to bind her in another?

"Your home. A trip is only complete once you return home. Your comrades are part of that home. So you'll help your comrade... right?"

"...Pathethic... I had heard the oh so magnificent Indra was the greatest warrior in all of Salvation but is this all they have to offer? A little bug who falls to a boy barely out of his teens. How utterly droll.. Salvation has become a mere shadow of it's former self and here I was looking forward to a nice warm up but you're barely even qualified for that." The darkness surrounding him intensified and took on a hue even darker, no it was glowing brigther than the brightest light, yet it was still unmistakably darkness. It was a darkness that surpassed even darkness itself... The Darklight

It hadn't been seen by mortal for over a hundred years. But legends still told the tale, of the hero who worked from the shadows to bring down rogue organizations. No district claimed him as one of their own, but he had been sighted everywhere, from Little Russia to Halloween Town, from the small settlements near the great forest down to the sandy beaches of Swole City. In Districts new and in Districts old as well as in Districts that no longer were. They all told his tale, the tale of the Darklight Hero.

"DARK CLEAVE!"

KASHWOOOOOOOOM

What followed could hardly be described as a cleave, no it was far more like the sundering of the world itself. A dark rift or perhaps a wave of Darklight threatening to consume the monster. It was as big as the biggest land elephant, no even bigger still. 10 maybe 20 meters wide and almost equally tall. This attack was the very definition of overkill, an overwhelming power that crushed everything beneath it.

Just like in the legends, and if the legends were to be believed, this was just the beginning.

"Huh?"

The young woman slammed into something.  No, she wasn't allowed to escape to start with.  Then she felt it.  "F-father....  FATHER!" she screamed with glee, her lips stretching to the edge of her cheeks.  Her pupils rolled back as he mouth stretched open.  The skin of Ana melted, leaving only musculature.  That gave way to bone before suddenly being enveloped in a black skin and radiating with power.  She had become a beast.

A fountain of water exploaded as rock and rubble flew everywhere.  It was as if the sewer itself could not contain her power.  The limbs of the monster flew in every which direction before stopping abruptly.   She did it.  She was one with father!

Entheo

The roar echoed through the sewers.  Something would be coming soon.

Your right we do need to help him.

No... I think that means he is still alive.  We should finish this before whatever that is gets here.  What is more important, a man's life or his dream?

The sounds of gravel shifting under his feet could be heard if someone listened carefully.  The young man was marching towards the twoc combatants, gandao held behind his back.  The blade dragged along the ground, slicing the already broken concrete.  The walls were littered with holes from the man's magic as well as his own strikes from their earlier battle.  "Hey Mr. Hero, you got a battle plan for taking this guy down?  If not, I have one.  That thing is an affront to nature, a man who consumes souls and desecrates the sacred cycle of life.  More importantly, something else is coming, so we don't have time to fool around, as much as I enjoy that sort of thing."

But Entheo, what about your dream?

Indra

The eyes shone, the rot intensified, and the bell tolled.

The second world's merry ending.
"Ultima."

The blinding radiance of the Godlight smashed against the Darklight and everything around the two. The energy surge was enough to blow stone, metal, rubble and water crashing around, as everything turned to dust and started collapsing.

And as the two lights faded, the casters were unharmed. Unmoved.

But was Indra actually there in front of him? A technique that caused the rhythm of one's motions to leave afterimages. A technique that turns seven steps into one. A technique to turn one's body as still and silent as stone. And a marvelous combination of attacks.

The one inch punch.

From the smokescreen of their clash, all of this was coming for the intruder's side.

The Godlight overpowered the Darklight as he had predicted and washed over him and to blast away the magic obscuring his features and frayed at his robes, but other than that he appeared to be mostly fine.

Just as predicted.

"EXPLOSION"

The Darklight burst out from all around him this time, creating an expanding dome of glowing shadows that swallowed everything around yet avoided Entheo all the same. Not just the bug man but the very ground beneath them was annihilated to destroy his footing leaving nothing but a spherical crater atop which the now revealed Dark Mage floated.

"Hey Kid, can you keep him busy for a second while I charge up a beam?"

Entheo

"A second?" he said, tapping the mysterious man's shoulder.  Since the magic was going out of its way to avoid him, it carved a cute little path to walk the little distance between the two.   "Thats not too bad.  We were trying to win before."

Then, Entheo bolted forward, his form becoming a blur of red. The crimson comet shot into the air, the guandao already being reeled back for a strike.

"He is going to touch you, Gezo added, a ghostly hand emerging from Entheo's and giving the man a wave.  "If I let him get touched more, we might be able to give you five."

Then I guess we only have one job.....
.
The blade came down, a crescent moon arc threatening to slice through Indra.  The ghostly arms of Gezo materialized another guandao in hand, ready to intercept a counter attack.  To live!

Indra

But a black explosion swallowed the beast whole, launching him into the heavens with its burning vigor. "Gyraaaaaghhhh! It hurts it hurts it hurts! You... impertinent...krgh-!" Its body began to charge again, wounded eyes still aimed straight at that boy. Its vision was dazed, the cumulative damage enough to nearly make it pass out.

No way. I can't lose. Can't lose. Can't lose. So why? To these pieces of garbage? I.. I...

Indra felt it, the same fear that brought it into this world. The fear of the weak against the strong.

"KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH! DON'T TOUCH ME DON'T DON'T DON'T! STAY AWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!"

With its focus reawakened, a kick flew to Entheo's face as Indra spun to avoid its blow, its other limbs ready to deflect the other ghost's. Sweating bullets, bleeding, gripped by this suffocating emotion, he'd use Entheo as a platform if he had to to run away.

"AAAAAAAAAAGHHHH!"

The Darklight shone ever brighter as the Dark Fist gathered his power for the one final spell that would end the fight. It built up and up easily surpassing the Dark Wave and Explosion from earlier but he just  kept charging-

The darkness shot up like a pillar threatening to cloak the whole room in everlasting darkness but then it was all sucked in, the mage becoming the singularity of this new magic.

Entheo

Another arc was drawn in the air, threatening to cleave the monster in half.  The ghost's limb could be seen sliding along Entheo's torso, the origin point shifting from the back to the young man's abs.  There was a flick of Gezo's wrist, striking Entheo himself with the butt of the Guandao and sending him spinning into the air.  Harnessing the momentum with his core, he backflipped, knowing full well that he would be unable to attack the man.  Entheo's arms came up in advance, anticipating an attack from above.

Its as I told you, as your enemies have told you.  You can't fight alone.

Well, I admit, its just a little easier like this.

Just as you fight for the dreams of others, so too will people fight for you.  Tell me Entheo, what is your dream?

The cool blue eyes of Entheo stared into the creatures desperate eyes.  The monster was trembling, seeing the death he saw mere moments ago.  Before he felt the thrill of death's hand holding his own, enjoying its sway.  Yet this man was truly terrified by its touch.  Despite risking his own life, the young man wondered if he would be satisfied going out like this.  In his final moments, would Indra truly be happy?  The lonliest thing in the world was to die alone with broken dreams.  Thats why he spoke as Gezo's guandao sliced came in contact with his body.

"Relax buddy.  Dying isn't so bad, after you get over the excruciating pain.  Do you have any last wishes?  I promise i'll see them through."

Indra

The beast's words were words no longer, but the chittering of insects. But his foot swung at the empty air, sending the beast flying towards the guandao's slash. "Grgkhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!" This must have been the end, but - it wasn't.

The monster refused to perish and snapped its tail at the weapon's base to deflect the swing. No, it had latched at Gezo's hand and lance like a whip already - and pulled him towards a flurry of slashing blows. The soul's a fragile thing. Even if it can't be easily erased, there are things in this world that can interact with phantoms. To wound, to devour.

GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

To pierce its guts out with an ungodly flurry of strikes, and sap the very life from the dead.

Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash. Its claws came down on Gezo until his soul, exposing phantasmic meat and bone. And as its claws ate at him, his wounds regenerated. Like a cornered beast, with the technique of a thousand warriors, all harkening for the ghost's life. And with strength and speed that put them both to shame.

"Kikikikikikikikikikikiiiii!"

It's only wish at the moment was to live and accomplish its mission. But if it could allow itself to be selfish, he would very much like their death.

The dark pressure reached it's an absolute zenith and then in just that moment it all disappeared, like it hadn't been there at all. However this was nothing more than the lull before the storm.

"DARK CLOAK CRESCENDO: VOID BRINGER!"

The Darklight erupted like a humongous beam, even bigger than the dark wave had been, and unlike the wave it wasn't a single blast, it went on and on. Just before it reached Entheo and his ghost friend though, it coiled around them like a living snake avoiding both of them while heading for Indra, and the tip of the beam snake opened it's jaws to swallow Indra whole.

Geze's ghostly head became visible as it was pulled out of Entheo's body.  The hands already coming up to intercept Indra's next strike grabbed hold of Gezo's musclebound waist.  The beast's grip was too strong.

"Like hell your taking him," Entheo said, his cool eyes lighting up with a furry hotter than a thousand suns.  The Entheo's muscles bulged, yanking Gezo with a sudden burst of strength.  "Thats my friend, my brother Sakuyomi Gezo!  Do you hear me?!"

"He is right you know.  I can't leave him alone.  This fool wouldn't last a day without me."

The slashes were met with the twin blades of Sakuyomi Gezo.  Even while he was being pulled by one hand, he still had his other.  The guandao had dropped, falling from his grip towards his legs.  In its place materialized the swords.  The ghost could feel the love from the boy empowering their shared soul, increasing the speed and power of his strikes beyond anything he had felt in life.  Each slash was met with another from Gezo, every single strike from those many warriors met with the will of Gezo himself.

"Stop talking shit and come back to me old man!" he yelled.

A dark light circled around the two.  A snake like magic construct reformed around them swallowing Indra whole.  "Now!"  With another yank, Entheo attempted to rip Gezo free from his grip.

Indra

Slash. Slash. Slash! He wouldn't fall here, couldn't fall here! He was a chosen warrior, the strongest messenger of God! So why? Why!?

"GEZO! WHY WON'T YOU FALL!!"

He couldn't accept this heart, his skill strength and power were all superior. So why!? Why wouldn't he get eaten!? It was annoying... annoying... annoying!!

"You know, I never really got you."

Two warriors were sitting over a rooftop, many aeons ago. In another place, another time... strangely enough, another Nexus where worlds converged. But a world full of falsehoods like so many others.

You could call them warriors all you liked, but really, they were both more like beasts, things that didn't belong there. It'd be weird to see a pair of fish suddenly walking on land, it'd probably be considered strange and alien for a regular person to see something like this.

What was so strange about these two then?

One might say... their EVERYTHING.

"Speak for yourself, Thousand Changes. I have no wish to converse with weaklings... even less with worms." Indra turned its prematurely formed maw at his companion begrudgingly. At that time, he was still far from perfection, his body was far smaller and frailer too. It was almost cute. At least, Nidhogg grinned at him like he was, much to his chagrin. "Sure, sure. I know, you're smitten for me."

The many-shaped monster stretched and sighed happily, while the remnants of a foreign army laid broken, burnt and assimilated down below.

"You didn't really have to go after the strays. Sure, they had interesting powers, but what good's going after weaklings who'll just run away?" Asked Nidhogg, totally ignoring Indra's begrudging hatred. He was an irritating man like that, and he totally looked like he enjoyed playing the part. Shockingly though, Indra actually bothered answering that... sort of.

"You had no need to burn those weaklings. Cowards or not, the souls I consumed had skills and strength that will be useful in the Dawn of the New World. But you just play around with food regardless of their power, just charging at whatever's aiming anything at you regardless of worth. It's disgusting, the way you take them is a disgrace to our holy mission."

There was a long pause. Sheesh, talk about moodkiller.

"I don't think that's true."

These words cut the silence apart, by none other than an irreverent weakling. Nidhogg was like that, Indra was like that. Sometimes, you just can't change. Sow ith a happy sigh, he took another lick of that seasalt ice cream that was all the rage, bodies being devoured beneath them be damned. "You talk of worthy people and unworthy people, but we're just dogs ourselves. Isn't it kind of unfair? To look down on someone based on your standards?"

Indra... was silent. No, for the first time, he looked at his comrade without dismissal, only confusion. Like his words were somehow alien, unnerving. "Ah, sorry, sorry. That's right, you wanna prove your own worth. But you know, for such a picky eater, aren't you missing the bigger picture?"

Indra's claws scratched against the rooftop. "What are you implying..."

"Oh, nothing, nothing. Just that I don't think it's about power or skill or whatever. Otherwise, why would the Will of The World choose a weakling like me? ...If it's about strength, I'm sure the heart's more important than whatever guns you've got packed. As long as you've got the will, you can keep fighting, improve yourself. If you give up, even if you've got the power of a God, that's all you're ever going to get. That's why you're imperfect pal, you've got your eyes on the trees and miss the forest. You only care about people who are strong now, and eventually, everyone's going to catch up and put you down for that. For me? Any bastard who can pick up a sword is just as good as any."

Indra... stared at the creature. Rather, for the first time, it saw that comrade as an actual creature. Someone outside of his comprehension, whom he just couldn't wrap his head around. This difference of values... was simpl far too great. One who valued fighting for fighting's sake, and one who valued power for power's sake. How could two beings who were so similar be so different?

"Nidhogg... we'll never get along. Boy." Indra growled. "Seems like it, Mr.Indra~."

The score so far was 234, 568 937 to 12, in favor of Indra.  Five hours later, it came up to 234, 568 938 to 12.

As the serpent came to devour his world, he realized just how far he'd been played. The heart? Don't make me laugh. It's nothing like that. IN the end, INdra was utterly right. The difference didn't come from will or conviction.

Only one man's overwhelming power.

"You...pieces...of shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttt...!!"

Ripped, torn asunder, hurled away. And thus, everything returns to darkness.

And silence.

William

"And with that my work here is done. Youngster take care of yourself, this organization is most vile and has sunk its claws into every layer of society, they may come for you for your involvement here."

It was unlikely, only Elysion remained and dealing with h would be a trivial affair now, then they could finally retake control and steer Salvation on the right course. Seriously what had He been up to lately to allow it to fall into this state. Either way this kid needn't be allowed, it was already unfortunate enough that he'd been caught up in this battle. The dark mage would have to chew out Lawrence for his irresponsibility and to think that man called himself a teacher..

"The Dark Knight must not rest until all the wrong have been righted, I pray we never meet again for your sake."

And with that the man flashed away at tremendous speed.

Entheo

"Thanks heroguy," Entheo said with a smile, watching Gezo's ghostly body sink into his own as he fell to the ground.  "You really saved my ass and Sakyuomi's."

The young man fell on his butt, exhausted.  There was nothing more he wanted to do than lay in the center of this disgusting crater, but he had one thing left that he had to do.  Gathering all of his strength into his wabbling legs, he limped across the crater towards the now floating soul of Indra.

"I grant you passage to your afterlife, let your soul rest in peace," he said, smiling at the orb in his hands.  "What were your last moments, your thoughts, were they good or bad?  I hope you found peace in our bout and that you were carried to the world beyond in true peace."

Do you think we did it?  Do you think we fulfilled his dream?

I don't think that will happen until this entire organization is destroyed.

Then... I guess we have work to do.

Entheo began walking back towards Lawrance, only to be surrounded by a vortex of lightning.  "Damn.  Not yet."

The tornado of raw lightning began to consume him, obscuring his entire body.  The young man was but a shadow now.  Fool.  You cannot escape me by leaving to another world.  Its time.
Your being summoned for another battle, another tournament to decide the greatest in the afterlife.

"No!  Lawrance!  I haven't fulfilled his dream, his wish!"

We don't have a choice Entheo.  He is taking us away.

Entheo frowned before being swallowed completely, gone from the place known as the nexus back to his world.
