Wanderer

The horseman very calmly looked across the still waters of the lake. His enemy mirrored his position, the old man standing in the opposite of where the eternal wanderer was sitting. Wanderer didn't call out to the old man. He didn't say a word to the magi, gave no sign of life, nothing.

The only thing that the horseman did do to disturb the evening's peace was to carefully take aim at Wiseman with his shotgun, casually slinging it off of his back. The sun was touching the horizon, and as it sunk down against the line that divided heaven and earth –

The shotgun roared unlike any before it, the power that warped the minds of man spewing flame and death from the barrel, powerful enough to clear the small lake without spreading apart; and it was aimed straight at his opponent.

Ezra smiled like a knife, sharp and cold. One of the vampires burst away in a flash of speed, and the spearman let her go. Four on one was preferable, anyways.

"What a nice family of cowardly fools. Come on then, boys and girls, let's see what you have in store. Ah, while I don't like to brag," He responded to something the crazy woman had said before as the spiky-haired man started to whistle.

"I suppose if there's a 'King of Swords', you could call me a 'King of Spears'? I hope you can take me alive, really. As long as even one of you can move, I'm sure it won't be too hard. Now... are you going to come to me, or am I going to go to you?"

"Yes, I get it.  We're evil, we're corpses that have demons who set up shop who have our memories and personalities because our souls are wherever the hell they are. And we eat people. Angel gets off on torturing nuns."

Ezra didn't even blink, taking the probable joke in stride.

"What a strange fetish. Well, I've met some very attractive nuns, so I can't fault you for that."

Twirling his spear back on forth, the spearman kept talking and listening in turn, at ease with the threat of violence, the coil about the spring.

"Vampire's aren't inherently evil. They're just cowards. That's really it. I'm not doing this because God told me too, or because an angel appeared before me and told me to get to work. It's just me, really – I can dress it up behind anything else, but that's the truth."

Quote
"I hate the self-righteous bull shit. 'I'm so better because I got snockered on communion wine and think I'm chosen by Christ to hunt vampires.' Bloody hell. I'm going to enjoy ramming that spear straight up your sodding ass."

"You sound angry, kid; maybe too angry to listen to what I just said? Ah, but either way, I haven't been to Church in six years, so you might want to loosen up on all that snark."

Quote
"She's not one of us dearie. She believes she's God's Monster, culling the humans. Swish Swish. Like cattle."

Ezra tightened his grip on the Lance of Longinus, spinning it into its proper place at his side, ready to act.

"Well, that only cements that conclusion, then... Longinus was my ancestor, 'Dark Prophet' spewer. I know for a fact that he didn't become a vampire. Now, let's see here," He pointed the tip of the Lance at Drusillia's heart. "I think I'll start with you."

Ezra stared at her blankly for a moment. He craned his head past her to look at the other vampires, and then back to Deborah. The spear-bearer just shook his head at the huntress, in complete disbelief.

"I got saddled with someone crazy again, huh? A spiritual successor... I'm sorry to say it, but I can't hold back in that case. It would shame the memory of my ancestor."

Quote
"Your spear. Tasted the blood of Christ, it did. Was it sweet? Does it sing to you? Does it speak to you? Who will you pass it on to when its time for you to die?"

"Yes. Yes. No idea. No. Not really. At this point probably no one."

Ezra stated a harsh truth simply, in the manner of someone who has come to terms with such things. He didn't look concerned even though he was more than likely about to fight five vampires – because he had already made peace with the fact of death.

"What I have to say? ...What is there to say? Vampires cause trouble for other people. Some recklessly and with abandon, some reserved and with hesitation. Dead people are still people, even if parts of them have changed. Well, I don't worry about that part of classification. There are many things on this earth that harm the people of the earth. When something gives up its soul, it isn't a person anymore, and begins to harm those people, right?"

Casually beginning to twirl his spear, to one side, then to the other, than back again, Ezra walked forwards, seemingly unconcerned but in truth focused on every aspect of the vampires in front of him.

"Vampires are cowards who could not bear the weight of humanity, so they chose something greater and lesser to escape. Some of them were forced. Some of them jumped at it. Whatever the cause, death has changed their reason from 'spreading life' to 'bringing death'. I suppose you could say," He gestured to Deborah with his spear. "That as repentance the descendants of Longinus were charged to clear away the evils of this earth, to bring peace to humanity from the things that have forsaken God. Something like a vampire, that has no soul, has fled from the burden of having one, has most certainly turned their back on God... you see where I'm going with this, right?"

That which thou hath given my father

And my father's father

And his father before him

I beg of thee to grant to me once more

That I may be as the Shepard of the Earth

And spread peace in the name of the LORD of Hosts

"'Do not suppose that I have come to send peace unto you, for I have come not to bring peace, but a sword...'" Ezra gripped the Lance tightly, the two prongs wrapping into each other and around each other until the true form of the Lance was revealed, as an ashen spear with a razor-sharp head, like that of a fallen leaf. "Matthew 10:34. Amen."

My name's Deborah. I'm named after the only female Judge of Israel. I guess that could have been one of reasons why my sire chose me to continue the mission of the Dark Prophet Longinus.

the Dark Prophet Longinus.

What the hell?

Ezra kicked off of the wall, his mind made up. He couldn't ignore something like this, something that concerned his ancestor. Like the rest of his family, Ezra had read the Bible back to front, and as much of the assorted (correct) mythos to boot, and there was nothing in it about the Prophet Longinus. As a Saint, yes, as some kind of Dark Messiah, no.

The spear bearer swiveled into the sight of the four vampires, a little ways behind Deborah. He only called out to her though, ignoring the menacing stares of the others. He could deal with them, but there was something he had to know first.

"Excuse me, but I heard you say Dark Prophet Longinus. What made you come to the conclusion Longinus was a Prophet?"

"Dearie, you have no idea what delusional and insane is."

Ezra tensed, waiting. He had only just passed the alley to see five vampires talking to each other, and was about to leave again before he heard the words of the fifth vampire, the one that stood alone against the other four. Now, he waited, as he'd become so accustomed to doing.

The spearman very quietly breathed out, back to the wall. He was very tired of running away from monsters. Now, especially, as the clock ticked towards his eventual end he found himself taking bigger and bigger risks, hunting bigger and bigger game. Well, either way, he refused to move. He would wait for the ball to drop, one way or another.

"Can I keep it?"

The cowboy just looked at PARIAH. He didn't say a word, choosing to flat out ignore the mutated beast now snarling at the park around them. If he was a normal human, he surely would have sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, or simply walked off. In one of the stranger roles he had played, Wanderer was now the force keeping something else, likened to a roaring, uncaring flame, in check.

"...Yes."

Ezra bolted as soon as the spear connected, running at top speed out of the area. His curse had, for some reason, focused on the golem as 'the giver of aggression' and not the magus, which he was grateful for. He got the hell out of dodge, just in case the mage retaliated with something else. He wasn't going to get sucked up into a random fight again - he'd only targeted the Dead Apostle because he had been right in front of him.

It was this instinct that saved Ezra's life.

A tanker truck came careening into the area, faster than Ezra could move. Eyes widening, the spear-bearer threw himself out of the way, scrambling to get clear from what was about to happen. As he tried to flee, the truck was sent straight on a course for the Dead Apostle, and then... it hit.

There was a flash of light and heat, paired with the screech of metal and the crackling of flames. At least, there should have been.

Ezra stood up, blinking in disbelief. A wall of black ice had risen up right after the truck had gone by, sealing off the alleyway and the explosion that he had heard. It was clearly magical, in some way or another - it had withstood the truck and remained mostly unscathed. Well, if this was the level of magic a potential enemy could throw at him, Ezra wasn't sticking around.

Quietly sighing to himself, he made to leave the scene.

Jet plane?
Or maybe a tank!

Oh come on, nothing that ridiculous.

Apologies, but this might take a while. What I'm planning may accidentally destroy the Flesh Golem too, or at least severely damage it.

Way ahead of you.

25
Him kicking the bucket against the flesh golem or Ezra stabbing him with the Lance could also work quickly. (I'm pretty sure Moony was planning on have Ezra stab things too)

i want to be useful boss

(But yeah, if you want him to go out in a fight I'd be up for it)

26
Moon Moon, want us to skip you again?

I'm gonna edit it into my Vlad post.

Vlad Drăculea

"Wiseman has presented quite the gift, my lord. I vouch for his ability."

Vlad reclined in his seat, the gears turning in his head. His butler did not give true praise lightly, and for him to compliment the magus such, the wizard's work must have been exceptional.

"...Is that so?"

The lord of the castle motioned for Wiseman to come closer, and gave him instructions in a clear, powerful voice. "I have decided. You will be brought into my service, 'Wiseman', and your payment shall be as you have named. There is not much shortage of wealth, here... in the meantime, I would have you given room and board. Butler," Vlad called over to his loyal servant. "Show our newest member to the large room on the lower floor, next to the workshop. I believe he will find the location to his liking."

Ezra gripped his spear in one hand and turned the corner, kicking off of the street. He'd heard the armored thing command something, he'd heard the swordsman's exclamation... but seeing the golem was another story entirely. It was a twisted, gruesome thing, a stitched-up mockery of the human body - and he'd seen worse.

There was no time to waste; he wasn't going to run and didn't want to get within range of that thing's fists. The Lance was brought up to his side, then over his head, then thrown with his full strength at the back of the golem, intent on striking it down with one blow.

Ezra dived over to the other side of the building, rolling into a crouch as the spear soared towards the golem.

28
Nononoo, post post, It was my fault, It was.
Sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry.

No no, I'm serious, it's fine. He wouldn't be doing anything other than crouching behind the wall, anyways :P

29
Franco, can you stop posting out to turn. It was moony's turn

You can skip Ezra, it's fine.

One second he had been standing there, and then the next thing he knew, the sphere of ice had exploded, sending shards everywhere. The spearman blinked, and things hadn't changed, the swordsman having dropped his weapon on the ground and started to complain.

His eyes widened as red crept up the ball of ice, and Ezra sprung back, spinning the Lance behind him. Instinct propelled his movements, his synapses firing off the impulse to get behind cover. His instincts had almost never wronged him before, and Ezra sprinted around the edge of the building, skidding to a halt a couple of feet away from the edge.

Was it obvious where he was? Sure, he was easy to find – but he wasn't going to take any chances with something like a Dead Apostle, and whatever that armored figure had been.
