Adjutor

Before Adjutor could do more than feel a flash of pure horror at what the woman had just said, the Elementals were already in motion.

The winds roared and howled, whirling around them fast enough to pull at the surrounding vegetation, a sharp chill cut the air, a raging blizzard obscuring the everything around them with in a maelstrom of the purest white.

The shadows roiled around them, enveloping them in inky blackness before a raging inferno lit up the dark, hot enough to ward off the frigid air of the blizzard surrounding them. And there they were, standing in the eye of this storm, the one place within their vicinity left untouched by the Elementals.

Michael

The immortal stopped at this point, staring at the box, mouth agape in...wonder.

"...Brilliant!" he shouted, embracing the mad genius fiercely, "Another appreciator of the wonderful invention that is the cardboard box! A fellow cardboard connoisseur! A brother in arms!"

At this point he noticed Roxas's confused expression. Letting go of the doctor so suddenly that the latter might fall if he wasn't careful, the immortal turned on the kid.

"What do you mean, 'Huh'?" Michael started enthusiastically, "Do you not understand the glory of cardboard? So light, yet able to withstand so much for a material supposedly made of mere paper! And so many uses for it and many of them not what you'd expect! What is there to not love about the glorious cardboard box?!"

With that, Michael stepped, took a deep breath, and composed himself once more before clearing his throat.

"Go on, hydromancer," the immortal said calmly, "Surely you know where we may acquire more of these glorious items?"

Aisha

The mother's gaze was proud as elemental fury swirled around her. Then she walked straight into the conflux of power without a hint of fear. The inscrutable darkness could not hinder her sight, the fierce wind bent around her body and left her unruffled, hungry fire could not do so much as singe her hair, and the frigid blizzard did not chill her in the slightest.

She had always held her elementals to higher standards than her other Children. They were born powerful. Inheritors of the very building blocks of existence. "Is this all you remember of Creation? You are so much more than this, so let me see it!"

Ghost Child

The ghost blinked confusedly as the man tried to hug him and predictably phased straight through. He giggled. "You're silly, mister. You can't touch me with your arms. People like you can't hug me."

Despite saying this Ghost Child didn't move out of the way. The purple tear trails were already dry and a grin was already plastered all over his face again but he still didn't float away in search of something else. He just stayed still.

Adjutor

Right as Adjutor thought that this couldn't get any more insane, the woman in front of him walked right into the worst of it. To his surprise, she remained untouched by the storm. The blaze didn't even singe her, the wind flowed around her, she moved as if unhindered by the blackness that would've blinded Adjutor if not for Xarrest, and the chill didn't seem to bother her in the slightest. The teen's mouth fell open from a combination of shock, terror, and awe, his expression itself a testament to his utter disbelief of what he was witnessing.

How in the-

And then she barely heard her request, carried to him by Valmanway's winds.

He'd once asked them the same question. He'd once been foolish enough to ask them what they remembered of Creation. The sheer damage caused by the answer had all but leveled a massive forest, thankfully one that was uninhabitable due to all the dangerous beasts he'd been tasked to clear out at the time.

Oh f-

First came the Shadow, the enveloping blackness that had encompassed them spreading, becoming the infinite void of nothingness that was before all else.

Next came Fire, that first spark in defiance of the blackness that burst into the everlasting inferno of Creation, scorching, burning, cracking, melting all that were exposed to its fury.

The winds of Creation roared, massive and deafening, tearing at their surroundings with ferocity that made hurricanes look like troubling breezes, taking the inferno of Creation and turning it into a raging firestorm, a blazing maelstrom amidst the infinite black. Every piece of glass in the building shattered, glittering knives sent flying with the blazing winds.

Those same crystalline shards soon froze over as ice came about, the winds becoming arctic gales, covering every untouched surface in a thick frost that soon crept over most of the building they were in. Fire moved further in, still a raging inferno in defiance of the unending cold and the infinite black amidst the frozen winds that surrounded it.

While the woman was left untouched by some miracle of her own, the Elementals took care to avoid harming Adjutor with this display. After some time, the storm of Creation finally died down, the inferno fading to a mere blaze, the deathly cold fading to a faint chill, the raging winds dying down to a soothing breeze.

Oh god please don't-

Then the darkness finally lifted to reveal that the mall they'd been standing in had been almost completely destroyed, reduced to rubble and the shattered remains of support structures. Patches of the devastation were still iced over, while other areas continued to burn, only the ground in Adjutor's immediate vicinity had been spared the carnage. The tree that the woman had been sitting on was somehow still there, though it was a blasted, charred husk. Fortunately, the part of the building it had been supporting was harmless rubble now. Water gushed from broken plumbing and damaged fire hydrants alike as the screams from outside reached them amongst the two amongst the rubble.

We need to get out of here.

Well where in the Pantheon's blasted earth are we going to go to get away from this?

The water continued the gush, the spray from the broken plumbing starting to die down every so slightly.

Adjutor cleared his throat, collecting himself for a moment as an idea struck him.

"Would you like to see the ocean, by any chance?" he called out to the woman.

Sakagami Kenzo

Kenzo's face fell flat, a mixture of grief, sympathy and pity carved in his visage. That child did not know, he did not know of the love of a parent. And with a body such as his...

Not even another's warm embrace could grace the spirit. And that, that very fact, was more saddening than anything in the world. He wanted to yell, to curse and to cry. Too cruel, such a fate was too cruel. But the demon stood silent, and his gaze turned from one of grief to one full of resolve. Oozing determination, he bashed his fist on his own chest, the beating of his heart resonating like a drum.

"Kiddo, I swear I'll find a way to show you the warmth of a hug." he declared sternly, fiercely.

Because he had been shown that warmth, he had the duty to do the same to that spirit. That loveless spirit that resembled him so much. And it was because he resembled him so much that he couldn't bring himself to hate him any longer.

Pulling a string of his red hair, he tied it around his pinky and displayed it to the ghost.

"And that's a promise I will not break."

Aisha

The wind roared, the shadow engulfed, the fire consumed, and the blizzard howled. Aisha smiled. After the elemental storm had passed she, completely fine despite the intensity of the energies, and said, "You've grown. I'm rather proud of you all."

Then she turned to face her other Child and at his question her eyes seemed to glimmer like the seas themselves. "Yes, that would be very agreeable, Child."

Ghost Child

The spirit finally phased out of the man's grip before laughing. "But, mister, I already know how t go where you all are. We just need to beat up a big spirit and make it help me in. We can do it together!"

Kenzo raised an eyebrow at the phantom's words, unsure of what he meant. Then, hegasped and shook his head in disapproval.

"Kid, you can't take other people's bodies without their permission. Nor can you beat up spirits in order to force them into doing something. Would you like that someone beat you up in order to take something that he wanted?"

Sighing, he looked up. It was really getting dark, a beautiful night this night would be.

"Besides, you wouldn't be the one being hugged. It would just be someone else. You did have a body once, you know?"

The ghost pouted for a moment before speaking again. "But it would be my body! Mine! We just need to beat up a mean spirit and make it help. Then I can be here again!"

"I love you too.”

Sakura smiled without opening her eyes. This was bliss, pure bliss for her. To be able to finally say those words and hear him respond in turn. . . She couldn’t imagine anything she could value more. She’d never taken it for granted, but when the ability really had been spirited away from her, she’d felt so depressed; it was worse than anything Zouken had ever managed to do to her.

So she laid there, holding him close to her, on top of her, not loosening her grip for an instant. If only this moment could last for an eternity. . . That would be heaven. She thought to herself. However, as time passed, something gnawed at her. At her stomach. She reluctantly accepted that she was getting really hungry, and finally opened her eyes, very slowly.

“Senpai, are you hungry?” She asked him quietly.

"But what is a mean spirit?" Kenzo asked in a calm demeanour, not even budging or flinching.

Adjutor

Had the Elementals been capable of human emotion, they might have felt pride in that moment. Instead, they offered acknowledgement of the woman's praise before dissipating, all except for Tyrfing, which pooled around the woman in a wide shadow.

Adjutor, on the other hand, found himself dealing with a mad rush of thoughts that ranged from Dear god this woman is insane to Dear god this is going to be awkward to explain, all piling up on top of all the insanity he'd experienced today. Finally, it grew to be too much and something in the teen's mind shattered. In that singular moment, every wild thought running through Adjutor's mind coalesced into one shining point of clarity.

Nexus.

...I'm sorry, what?

The answer to all the insanity that's happened today, Xarrest. Nexus.

...That doesn't make-

Exactly.

...

With a slight spring in his step, Adjutor approached the woman, holding out a tattooed hand to her as they both stood on Tyrfing's shadow.

"Very well," Adjutor said, almost with a dissonant cheeriness, "If you'll take my hand, I can show you something of a shortcut to get there."

Ghost Child

He frowned and a hollow emptiness that almost seemed to draw in the light made his empty sockets seem even darker. "They're meanies if they hurt me, hurt my friends, or break my toys. Simple, right?"

Aisha

She gave one nod to her Children and simply stared at the shadow pooling around her feet until the human offered his hand. With a small smile she wordlessly grabbed it and gestured for him to proceed.

The frown deepened. "No! Only I get to break my toys. I might not be done with it when they break it. Only I know when the toys should be broken. No one else can because they're mine."

"Aaaah!" Kenzo gasped in understanding, his face lighting up as he tapped his palm with his fist.

"But that's missing the point. Even if you did that, that wouldn't be hugging you. That would be hugging a body. I want the you that is right in front of me to be able to be hugged as he is." he said, his voice full of resolve.
