General Visual Novel thread
« on: April 18, 2013, 01:41:14 AM »
Basically, a thread for Visual Novels in general. Tell us which ones you're reading, recommendations, thoughts, discussion, etc.

I'll start: has anyone here played any Visual Novel from 07th Expansion? As in, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Umineko no Naku Koro ni, Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni and/or Rose Guns Days?

I wish I did.  Honestly, the idea of playing Visual Novels is something I need to get used to, among other things.

Well, now that I think of it, how many people here have played "My Girlfriend is the President"?  What I've played of it is really fun and funny.

The sheer craziness of it is more suspension of disbelief than I can handle...

Wait, seriously?  You couldn't handle My Girlfriend is the President?

Man, I'm surprised by that.

Oh, another rec, but Koihime Musou.  How good do you think it rates?

Hmmm. The premise looks interesting, plus it also has turn based strategy (according to VNDB).

So, anyone here heard about Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru? It's better than it sounds and a very good eroge.

Played a few (TM and 07th, obv) and have a bunch DLed on HDD, but hardly have any time to read. I'd kill for like several hours or a week to myself to breeze through as many as I could at my leisure.

I know that feeling- there's a ton of stuff I still need to read/play in terms of VN stuff, but just haven't done much due to time/preoccupation with other things/IRL/etc.

Sorry to ressurect this topic btw, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get chatter going in here again. :3

So yeah, to get things going again, what would you guys say are the top VNs people should check out for their first Visual Novels (besides F/SN and Tsukihime that is)? :)

Besides running the forum, I can provide avatars for people as well~

I have not read that many, neither I am too much into VNs, with an exception of what T-M makes.

Last VN I read  was Grisaia no Kajitsu and I became bored of it. I suppose it is not my type of VN.

Not as such (at least whilst the forum is this slow), and certainly not for relevant posts in a general thread like this one. But, we do have a "no spam-bot" policy, and I have a strong feeling that guy is breaking it....

>Surprised no one has mentioned a VN like Kikokugai yet.

Seriously, it's at least one VN explicitly cited by Nasu to have fight scenes which keep him up at night! It's really very good in most respects, though it'd no doubt help if you are already a fan of wuxia and martial arts movies/stories to begin with. And if not, welp, you're still in for a treat.

Martial arts meets cyberpunk meets heroic bloodshed! I mean, really, what more can I say?

>Another hands-down recommendation is Saya no Uta. Yes, that one VN that reads like a love letter horror story in the vein of H.P. Lovecraft.

And if you A) hadn't heard about this VN before now and B) still can't imagine how such a pairing works out, well, that's kinda par the course. But it's still a good experience!

This VN has the dubious honor of actually making me cry with the True Ending, so yeah. Let the Warp take you~

In the process of doing so! Still not at the routes, but the common route has so many hilarious and nonsensical gut-bursting moments I'm not bored at all.
[13:38:37] Helligator: Depends on the god, but gods by definition in Nasuverse are strong because they have divine authority.
[13:38:48] Kat: Even the toilet god?
[13:38:56] Helligator: No one worships toilets.
[13:39:00] Helligator: Don't be a shitlord.

[04:32:08] Helligator: I can't make dragons in power armor like this

[19:50:12] francobull III: [...] why are you being all assive aggressive?

[23:32:37] Helligator: use the narrative as a means to convey an interesting story and cool conflicts with the openness you're allowed
[23:32:43] Helligator: not to CHEAT stories and conflicts

I have not read many Visual novels, in fact I've only read two(And a half I guess, F/HA being what it is).

#2: Fate/Stay Night, the story about a boy named Sheer-O M. Yeah who likes swords and chills out with King Arthur while some chicks lust after his cock and an ambiguously portrayed priest and his beautiful bisexual butt-buddy lurk in the darkness.

#1: The Sagara Family, it's porn

Both recommended for what they are.
