"Good to know that, Mordred."

"As you mentioned once that you tried to seal a ghost, I'm sure you can do something about any magi trying to spy on us with spirits. Then, leave Servants to me when we meet them. Many of us has high magic resistance, so if you have useful powers in your sleeves they might not work on them. " Mordred explained. She seems to switched into more serious mode as she started talking about what they should do in case of a battle against other Masters and Servants "I will leave their Masters to you, then."

Leaving it to us. The best thing she's said so far.

'I'm not murdering someone without a good reason.'

And a wish isn't a good reason?

"Being thrown into a completely unfamiliar place is my life. Wake up, don't recognize the surroundings, dick around until we get somewhere, and then dick around in that somewhere. It's a routine, within a set world.

"If the set world changes, however, the routine must change with it. For example, world number one, the homeworld, is a world covered in maddening Fog that makes humans go crazy at high density, or mutate in various ways at lower density. The aforementioned routine makes sense here: there are few places to go and it takes a long time to go between them.

"In world with no Fog, with good visibility and ample life, things work out differently. I've been to towns before, even a city built over a mountain, but I was prepared for those. I saw them coming, knew the basic social hierarchy, and approached on my own terms.

"Here, I'm pretty sure I'm at a mutant shanty, except instead of the almost animal-like...well, dumbness the mutants have to them, everyone looked at me as if I was food, as if considering if they should kill me, staring with bloodthirsty intelligence and consideration.

"Unfamiliar ground exists to be tread upon, however, and I walk in this new, water-level city with my eyes open and head held high."

I looked down at the mutant underneath my boot, a five-foot being somewhat reminiscent of a jackal in its face, laughter and smell. Its skin was a nasty orange, and hair seemed to be growing in patches throughout his little, oddly built body. The final notable point was a crease-filled face and a huge nose, also comically so.

"So, how's that sound?" I asked him expectantly, holding a notebook and a pen.

"Good, good!" He nervously said, somewhat out of breath. Little critter tried jumping me when I got out of the wagon to look around, and was paying for it.

"Now be honest," I said, putting my entire weight on my foot for a moment. He squealed loudly in pain and flailed a bit, but couldn't move.

"Mutants! We're not mutants!" He shouted frantically, and I hummed in approval, something he took as a signal to keep going. "We're Supernatural creatures! I'm a goblin! The big guy who just walked there was an ogre!"

He pointed to the exit of the alley, where a huge being walked across the entrance.

"An ogre?"

"Or ogre-blooded, it doesn't matter! We're the non-humans, the abnormal, the rejects!" He squealed before bending his head a little too far for comfort to look at me. "Like you, stranger."

I instantly snapped my notebook shut and hardened my gaze.

"I reckon you should watch your words."

"I can smell it now, you're not human, not real human," he said almost calmly, any notion of pain gone from his face. "I won't attack again, not one of ours, not a neighbor."

The supernatural, goblins, ogres... I'd read some books about them before. Mostly fiction, but it seems there was truth even in fiction. Non-human critters, not changed by fog or anything, walking the world performing pranks and living under bridges or in closets, or whichever the type preferred.

Basically, they were hooligans.

"I ain't one of yours, and I ain't your neighbor," I growled.

"Not yet," he said before laughing. "But you will, because you "ain't" one of theirs either."

I didn't wait. I took my leg off of him, and with all the strength living in the Fog gave me I kicked him right in the head. There was a snapping noise and his head, luckily still attached to his neck, fell to the ground motionless, a bizarre smile engraved on his face.

I didn't even consider his words before walking back to where I'd parked Slip and the wagon. I got into the wood and metal mishmash and pointed forward, a signal Slip understood. The mechanical horse started a rhythmic clip-clop, and brought us into a mostly deserted street.

I could feel the piercing gaze coming at me from different sides of the streets, though. More creatures like the goblin, probably giving me quarter because of my... well, because I'm a goddamn special snowflake.

It didn't take long before the street became crowded. Some huge, bipedal wolf made to move across alleys, and a guy in armor called out to him. The answer was what you'd expect; full on angry wolf-monster on armored man action. I made to settle in my wagon, until another wolf-beast crawled out of the woodwork to take on the armored guy.

"All's fair in love and war, but that ain't love, and he wasn't calling for war. Slip, get ready to book on my order," I absently call to the horse.

"Understood. With further assistance be necessary?" He answered in a synthesized, boring tone, nosy thing he was. I just ignored him, pulled my Inferno Revolver out of the wagon's overly big holster for it, and shot at the second werewolf.

The shot melted right through, cutting him in half from its side, and kept melting through the street, leaving a red-hot hole where it entered.

"Play nice!" I yelled as it did. "Winner gets a ride home!"

Suddenly, the stealthy looks I was getting turned somehow... deadly.

X=X=X=X=X

"MERCURY?! You little shit, what are you doing here?!" screamed Terumi in both sheer surprise and terror at the prospect of his powers fading completely again.

"Terumi..." Celica said in shock at the newest customer. In front of her was the man who killed her, the man who ruined Ragna's life, the man who killed her sister. Even for her, a person who could find the best in anyone, there was nothing good she could find out about this man. If he was here, it definitely meant something terrible was about to happen for the people of the city as well.

Out of the corner of her eyes, she noticed the manager looking at her.

"How may I... take your order?" She said, in a tone far too serious to fit either her words or her usual demeanor.

For that was all she could do: As an employee of KFC, she had to ensure all customers got what they wanted. And if she was lucky enough to meet someone to deal with Terumi afterwards, she could probably just ask them for help.

Trying to calm down slightly, taking in the fact that his powers were useless here and that he could simply have Relius dispose of this bint, Terumi took so deep a breath his lungs might've imploded then and there.

"I'll have a Size 3 Hot Wings bucket", a murderous glint crossing his eyes once again despite his best efforts, "post haste. Make that a menu."

Fishing up the bloodstained wallet he took from the weeb, Terumi fished out the kid's cash and put the appropriate amount on the counter with an audible slam, making it clear to the faux-nun that he was not in the mood for bullshit.

Celica hit the cash register's buttons, resulting in the cash drawer opening automatically. She took out a certain amount and put in Terumi's money.

"Here is your change, sir," she said with clear unhappiness, never breaking eye contact. "Which drink would you like?"

If her eyes could set people on fire, there was no doubt Terumi would be a walking bonfire by now.

Phoenix saw, ignoring the woman friend as she avoided its attack.

The cold remained, it did not leave, but it has to leave, but it did not. Phoenix trembled, unable to understand the thing that could withstand a hit from that attack.

Not human, the cold can’t be human, it is something else.

It had to get away, it had to leave the cold, and it could not let it influence it anymore. And so Phoenix moved to the building the sun friend went. There were other friends there, it would be warm. And so Phoenix flew.

In moments if flew overhead of the compound, many friends in front with a few inside. It then shrunk to the size of an average owl, its feathers scattering into the wind, and landed on the head of the sun friend, turning his hair into a nest and basking in the warmth of all the friends. Content to simply sit there.

"Your tears-I mean, Coca Cola", his smirk almost widening to a murderous grin as he contemplated how beautiful she would look with a pair of knives in her neck, bleeding all over the counter, with the screams of her little lover boy hanging in the air. 'Oops, that won't do, I'll snap her neck at this rate from the sheer desire to kill her violently.'

Karna merely tried to look up in disbelief at the defiance of the bird that had tried to turn him to dust barely ten minutes ago, as it was now making a roost in the white crown of his unkempt hair, now the size of a small eagle. Truly, this was one creature he could not understand. But there was nothing really wrong with that either, he thought, as his right hand reached up and patted the bird on it's head. The action brought a small but gentle smile to his face. He knew this was no mere animal, but he once again felt like a child wandering around the forest in his stepparents' hometown, drawing all of the animals of the forest to him with his brilliant authority.

Uchiten

Uchiten blinked as he was addressed. The intensity in his expression he was aiming at the phoenix vanished as he turned his head to Grigori, remembering she was there. As he did, his shades snapped down the middle and fell to the ground. The onmyoji grumbled under his breath.

"Hah. I managed to mostly defend against it, but as you say, that attack was no joke. I seriously feared for myself after deciding to forgo evasion. It seems I overestimated my protection." he answered with a smile, dangling his charred ruin of an arm in the air.

It was at this moment that the situation finally sunk in to his shikigami, who bombarded him with worry and exasperation over his injuries through their mental link (but mostly Homura, proving extremely loud in the telepathic sense). He bid them to quiet down.

Looking down on his damaged shades, he sighed and ran a hand over his eyes. Black mist shaped itself into a replacement pair on his face as the ruined one dissolved. With a snap of his fingers, the left side of his body was also covered in black fog. In an instant it faded away to reveal his renewed suit.

He had only restored his appearance and the superficial burns he had suffered on his left side. Despite the potency of the beam dulling through two barriers, it had still been powerful enough to all but completely char his flesh. The afflicted areas of his body would be mostly useless for the time, and he would have to look more carefully at them later. He chastised himself for meeting that power head on.

And yet, matching force against the phoenix had been nothing short of exhilarating.

Uchiten held back his words to Grigori at seeing the firebird leave, his eyes narrowed. As the being flew away from their line of sight he allowed his expression to relax. Truthfully, he was somewhat disappointed, but after his unwise move, his condition was not the best to continue an engagement. Homura and Shi materialized once again, and Zan, who had done so before them, slipped from his completely battle ready position into a more comfortable stance.

"Shall we move this conversation elsewhere, to not be so easily interrupted?" he asked the sorceress.

Forest looked at the werewolf and said, "It's a bloody long story.  So what exactly do you need help with?"

Because my experiences with werewolves generally end more on the "Old Yeller" variety, she thought to herself.

Then she looked over at Karna.  Indian mythology really wasn't her thing, she knew slight bits and pieces, but wasn't as familiar with it as she was the Celtic or Norse mythos.  Still, her assessment of this guy being one not to flounce around with was an accurate one.

So she bowed her head and said, "Still, thank you for your aid.  Eddie and I appreciate it."  Then she reached up a hand to scratch her head, grimacing as she did.  She blinked as a radiant bird landed in Karna's hair.  "There's a bird in your hair."

Gabriel smirked and said, "Well you are a mess . . . "  Then he winched as he realized that he was going to have to wash his bed clothing.

Songbird was still wary of the new comers. But if the Blonde Woman isn't threatened, he'll let them past. He will be listening in, though. The Man-Bird's strength would undoubtedly allow him to tear this building apart to save Forest if he needed to.

She grasped by now how this kind of telepathy worked and replied to her sire. I'm not much of a party person, so please don't nag me too much about it She indeed was out of the water, for now, in this realm of existence, and probably feeding and getting hang of how everything works was more of concern for her than having fun.

So she bowed her head and said, "Still, thank you for your aid.  Eddie and I appreciate it."

"There is no need to thank me. I only did what came as natural at the time. And I offer my sincerest apologies for the sake of your vehicles. If there is anything I can do to recompense you, please inform of such.

"There's a bird in your hair."

"...And? He's not hurting anyone by being there. My hair now serves as more than a useless decorative."

Gabriel smirked and said, "Well you are a mess . . . "  Then he winched as he realized that he was going to have to wash his bed clothing.

"I am aware of that, which only gives us even more reason to go" came from La Folia as she headed towards the door, covered in little more than the blanket. Her steps were not quite as graceful as before however. She couldn't claim to actually be sore, but battered was certainly a word that appropriately described her situation right now.

"I'm not too comfortable discussing it in front of anyone else. It's a very, very personal matter, and one the less people know about it the better, honestly." Dan dusted himself off, looking rather surprised at the bird that had suddenly landed in Karna's hair. "And apparently you're also friends with a phoenix of some sort? What I wouldn't give for a feather or two sometime, if the bird is willing to give them away."

This Nexus was certainly an amazing place if such a rare and timid creature was willing to approach people. Just seeing it brought back some memories of his traveling through Greece. And another coughing fit as some dust refused to leave his scarred and damaged lungs. He wiped the phlem mixed with flecks of blood off on his jeans, turning back to Forest. "So, could you please let me inside, so I can tell you what I need?"

Once again, as he walked out towards the car, Law was struck with the urge to give Mordred a pat on the head. "I'm seriously hoping I do."

"She still lives, though she should be lacking a body below the midsection now," Karna replied to Forest's question, "Unfortunately, due to the interference of the bird of fire flying around, I was unable to finish her off. She does not know of this place, however, so you should be safe."

Henry blinked in surprise at suited man's statement. Even if that sorceress would be considered very powerful of her craft, this would be one of the rarer times that his own instincts were wrong. He had expected the white-haired man to dispose of her. What an oddity this city is.

"Well, I suppose it can't be helped," he sighed with his head scratching the back of his neck.

"I believe I already said my name was Karna, though you may have missed that due to your preoccupation with mending this creature. My name may ring hollow, however, if you are unfamiliar with the tale known as the Mahabharata."

Karna. Mahabharata.

The names were familiar to him as he had once passed through it to reach the Middle East. Here this man was a demi-god descended from the Sun God Surya. It's no wonder there was so much Yang emanating from his body. A son of a Sun God. It explained a lot.

"Yes. The son of Surya the Sun," the bespectacled doctor nodded, "I heard of you once on my way passing through India once. Then it is a honor to meet you, sir."

"And why, exactly, is a kind of foodstuff someone's fault?" said the suited sun, unable to recognize humor.

Henry cracked an amused smile at the question. It was a bit of a hilarious time now that he looked back at it.

"I kicked a garbage can to save her life. It turns out she didn't needed any saving after all."

He chuckled soon after this. But found himself looking back at Karna's hair, where a small bird had finally roosted. Despite the buzzard itself would herald a formidable presence, Henry found difficulty in holding back his laughter at the sight as both ends of his mouth curled up in a smile.

But, he was able to control his mirth as his attention drew upon the werewolf who had just started coughing. The smell of blood mixed with mucous fluid caused a brow to raise. Obviously this guy was sick. But why would he come to Forest and not a doctor...?

Regardless he was already moving to the side to allow some space. After all, Forest did indicate earlier that she would hear him out anyway.

Phoenix sat contently, letting the sun friend pet him a bit.

It simply closed of it's sight and let itself be at ease, letting the feeling caused by the cold to fade way.

Forest smelled the blood the werewolf coughed up.  So, not of the regenerating variety then, she thought as she eyed the taller man.

She looked at Songbird, smiled, and said, "I'm going to lead these people inside.  Could you keep watch on the roof, for me, Eddie?"

Then she looked back at the group, chuckling at Karna.  "I didn't mean it was a bad thing.  Just, 'oh, there's a bird in your hair!'  If it had been a crow or a raven, I would be squeeing and trying to pet it right now, but that's neither here nor there.  Also, you're welcome to come inside.  I don't know if you have a place to stay here in Nexus, but the least I could do is invite you to stay with me."

She looked at Henry and said, "The same goes for you as well."

Then she looked back to the werewolf and said, "Come in then, we can go somewhere private and then I can make my decision if I need to Old Yeller you or not.  Where I come from, werewolves are . . . well, the Old Yeller analogy is a good one."

"Well, and the hot water would actually help with the soreness as well," Gabriel said, rising up and not bothering go cover himself.
