After Fiona had tied the bright alfalfa to one of his shoulder spikes, she had departed from his company and all he could really say was a halted "Oh, thanks...oh."

Fiona had decided to part ways and he wasn't going to disrespect her wishes on that, even if she was just an acquaintance - she was still nice. And rather adorably awkward, in the way a wolf pup, dire or not, is. Well, what was he going to do now? It was snowing so he didn't want to stay out in the open. Either he'd get cold and his mood would sour considerably or he'd stay active and thereby stay warm.

Unlike Fiona, he wasn't hungry so that left continuing to wander around until he found something to do. At least he got to meet someone knew.

He wasn't sure what to ascribe Fiona's uncertainty. Nervousness and-or anxiety? Embarrassment? Personal obligation? No way of knowing unless he asked what the "personal it" was, and that would be rude and presumptuous.

However, he saw that, at some point in the explanation, she started drooling - just a little bit. "Um, are you hungry? I could at least help you find somewhere to get food. I'd offer to hunt something for the both of us, but you might be friends with something I'd hunt." He looked away out of awkwardness. Some humans hunted like he did, while others refused meat. What a strange species of omnivores.

"I've mostly moved between neighborhoods carefully while finding places to stay the night dry and warm." He let her continue.

Something she needed to do? He stood a little bit, his tail lazily swaying. "Oh, perhaps I can assist you in those tasks, then? It would be nice to do something different than wandering around trying to find answers, and the company would be appreciated."

"I'm not a fan of the snow either, if I'm honest." Cold did not sit well with him, but he had kept to warm buildings and alcoves across the city and woods.

The wingless dragon felt comfort at Fiona's words and the sense of hope he had wrangled with to keep returned, alongside happiness. "Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, Fiona."

Thinking about it now, he wondered if she knew anything about Nexus that he did not. "You wouldn't happen to know anything specific about Nexus City, would you, Fiona? I've thought about looking for a library. Or do you have something else you planned on doing? I have basically nothing but time these days."

He could only really tilt his head in befuddlement at her response. What does one really say to that? "Well, my god-mother likes ospreys and owls a lot, and I hear corvids are used as messengers by some goddesses northwest of the region I live in. My home city has a lot of bird-watchers, too, though they mostly look for doves and eagles. I tend to use the stars."

He stopped himself. "Well, where I actually come from, that is. I'm not a native to Nexus. Speaking of friends? They're not here with me, though one of them is a jerk 99.9% of the time. Nor is my god-mother. It's kind of lonely." He cast a downtrodden look at the ground, scuffing it with a paw.

Oh right don't get depressed. The moment you get depressed and homesick is basically a step closer to giving up. Don't do that. Bad self.

"I was mostly asking if they were your friends because then they'd be off limits for if and-or when I wanted to eat." Yes because that's not weird to a human not from your world. Way to go, Aptera. "Um, I can go to one of the woods and hunt deer if you'd prefer me to? Also corvids are vengeful."

Oh. Well he had thought about it, if he was absolutely honest - poultry remained a favorite choice for his palate. "No, not at all. While I admit to eating birds - I am a carnivore after all - I noticed they were different and was curious who or what had changed them. If change is the correct work, of course. After all, Nexus City seems to be the strangest place of all. Birds turning red could be normal here."

He rolled his shoulders in the aproximation of a shrug. "I digress. No, your bird...friends? are safe and sound in the air. Corvids are quite smart, if greedy. Though on greed I have no room to talk, given my species' stereotypes." This last part he said with a small snort of laughter.

Her awkward laughter subsided at her introduction and she hugged an arm to her body. He loosened his posture and sat, curling his tail at his feet - hiding his menacing talons. "There's no need to feel ashamed. It's very nice to meet up, Fiona, especially someone learned. If you don't mind me asking, are you friends with the red-tinted ravens I saw come from this area?" A topic away from her embarrassment would be best for both of them.

At least he didn't outright frighten her, he thought. Getting her attention was the intent, which seemed to have worked. Her embarassment was welcome recompense for her admittedly rude behavior and invasion of his personal space, but he was forgiving - ignorance was a trap all beings can fall into.

"Apology accepted, miss. Most of the humans I've encountered here haven't seen a dragon before me, either. To me, that's a rather odd thing, having grown up with humans coexisting with all sorts of beings. Now if you don't mind?" He paused, making a gesture with his right digits. "My name is Lycodrake Aptera. What is your name?"

Ron: Full moon y/n?

Fiona: What's your favorite type of carnivorous plant?

It would appear she knew many types of draconic beings by name, despite never having seen one before. Learned, then. Also very talkative.

He decided to attempt to politely quiet her, clearing his throat - a sound most like a gravelly growl. With his frame, it would carry the impact of a wolf's howl, though muted. "I am in fact a dragon, miss. Please don't demean me by my lack of wings, it's quite rude. I do have teeth and would prefer to not set them against you - you seem like a kind, friendly sort." He paused, "And yes indeed I know other dragons and serpents."

The young human ran at him with an expression of awe and curiosity before wrapping her thin arms around his neck and rubbing into his scales. For a second his pride at being a mighty dragon was wounded, but set aside quickly in favor of remembering how young children, almost regardless of age, tended to be super excited about seeing lions, often rubbing the male's mane and wanting to touch the soft paw-pads. He could forgive the invasion of his personal space in such an occassion.

Her silver eyes were vivid and the roses in her auburn hair were alive. The smell of roses and soil was thick upon her. How interesting. But what does one actually say in this situation? She was still swinging around his neck a bit, so he tried to make eye contact - his violet to her silver. "Ah, um, it's very nice to meet you, too, miss. I am Lycodrake Aptera - what is your name?"

Nexus City, as the residents called it, was an expansive place that maps could not contain. The orphan dragon had wandered around the city, avoiding conflict as best he could and holing up where it was warm on the cold nights. He still had no real idea of who or what being controlled the Nexus - city and phenomenon both. Humans reacted to his presence oddly compared to his world. Fear rather than wariness. He didn't like that, so he had made it a habit to be polite and careful around them.

Today was just another day of trying to learn more about the Nexus and doing what he could to help others. This wasn't entirely selfless, because without something active to do he would get bored - and boredom allowed to homesickness and depression. Neither of which would help him get back home, if possible.

So it was that, as he plodded on the streets of Nexus, he came upon a flock of black birds flying from a central point. A red shade to them drew his eye more than his liking for avian meat. Nothing else about them seemed out of the ordinary to his keen eyes. The movements marked them as ravens - soaring in some places, compared to a crow's rapid flapping. This, he decided, would be interesting to look into.

He trotted, his talons clacking on the street, in the direction the corvids had come from to find a human girl wrapped in a red cloak. The smell of roses wafted off her easily.

"Hello? Who might you be?"

Name: Lycodrake Aptera

Race: Dragon

Age: equivalent to 25 years old

Height/Weight: Variable (see Other Abilities)

Appearance
Spoiler for Hiden:

Physical Attributes

Strength:  Incredible

Agility:  Fantastic

Constitution:  Incredible

Other Abilities: He can alter his body's size and mass between the size of a direwolf/warg to the size of a train car. Most likely not a magical ability per-se.

Magic Resistance – as a member of the draconic species, known for hide and/or scales that repel standard attacks, Lycodrake can shrug off a wide variety of magic, excluding ice/cold element and those upper “Medium” to “Extremely High” category.

Offense-oriented fighting style “Harpe” which focuses on quickly slashing at joints and arteries close to the skin with his talons. The intention is to temporarily cripple and immobilize the target(s) in the least amount of time.

“Aegis”, a divine blessing and magic among the highest degree granted to him by Athena, that acts as a limited defense against weapons, magic, and abilities that would normally mortally wound him. It passively protects against paralysis and petrifying at all times.

Equipment:  None.

Origin: In Lycodrake’s home world, humans lived beside elementals, creatures, and monsters. In some ways, the “Age of gods” and “Age of mankind” intertwined there.

A wingless dragon in the service of Athena and her lesser form Nike, he hatched at a shrine devoted to Nike and was essentially raised there. It is theorized that he is a lesser child of Typhon and Echidna, making him a possible threat to villages, towns, and small cities should the instinct to destroy take hold of him.

He was raised at the shrine of [Athena] Nike as a surrogate son and given messenger duty across the region, mainly keeping to areas near Athens. He visited the Arena to see different sentient species compete with and against one another. He befriended djinn merchants from across the sea and often learned about the outside world from them.

He knew Nike was Athena’s “lesser aspect” but saw little difference between the two when he met with Athena. To him, the only difference was that Nike was less strict and Athena was a better fighter.

Years passed as he transitioned from childhood, adolescence and into young adulthood. News of Ares’ growing power to the west depressed Nike greatly. The change in Athena was even greater. Then the news came that Ares had gained a seat of power as “Mars” among the Roman lands, igniting the flames of war. Athena sought to protect those under her care through the least bloodshed, while Mars only wanted to destroy and paint the world in blood.

Tragedy struck when Athena faded and only Nike remained. Lycodrake had a new, two-part mission: find the source of the disturbance and locate a hero - preferably Herakles or Perseus - to help against Mars’ forces.

With the help of Marie Al-miraj, Lycodrake’s best friend, merchant, and a dual fire-and-water mage, they took the first steps in journeying out into the world.

Until, that is, Lycodrake took a golden apple to the knee and found himself in Nexus City.

Weakness:  Ice, cold, berserker effects, knock-outs, "death by a thousand cuts" strategies, anti-dragon anything, magical/supernatural metals, and heights with unstable footing.

Likes: Athena Nike, Marie Al-miraj, reasonable sentient beings – creature or humanoid, reading and hording books and maps.

Dislikes: Ares-Mars, unreasonable sentient beings, battle and war waged only for bloodshed, book-burning, being called “lizard”.

"I see," Sarse responded simply.

The angel smiled politely, and said, "I believe in paying trust forward. My inquiry is not from doubt in my own judgement. It is part of it. Yours is a right answer, so for now I am satisfied." And so he turned around and began to walk, before stopping to look back at the aged man. "At this time, I wish you luck and I hope I will be able to trust you based on your actions."

Content, he walked off.
The half-elf followed his friend, disappointed that Just had refused his offer of help. He had power available to help make Just's men safer and had been rejected; however skilled the man's knights were, surely help would be appreciated? It didn't make any sense. He wasn't sure if he understood the implicit pieces of Sarse and Just's dialogue either. He partly agreed with Sarse on matters of trust, but was confused as to the wording.

"What next, Sarse?"

Just

He turned to the man… no the entire group of three. “It would be best if you were to leave. We are going to begin checking out structures to see where it is safe to go, it would be best if no one was in our way.” He told them, his voice stern and gold. Gone was the nice old man from eirler, who was relax and at ease, and before them now stood the leader of the Guard of the Saint.

Gintoki

"Let's go guys. If they don't want to tell us anything, it's their business, I'm not in a mood for arguing more. I'll buy you parfait or whatever."

Sarse

"Before we go, please answer me this. May I trust you, Just?" He asked, looking straight into the man's eyes.

"Do as you will, Gintoki."

His annoyance at Gintoki was set aside the moment the half-elf heard that Just, Kern, and the other men under their command could be walking into structurally unsound buildings - or so he intuited. While no architect, he had worked for some in a plane-wide city near his Guild, and he trusted his elementals in their common desire to protect life.

"If I may interrupt you for but a moment, Sarse, I would like to point out to Sir Just and Sir Kern that I may be able to assist if they and their men are in danger."  He made sure to only suggest, not demand, this. "While only one use for them, I can offer the assistance of plant elementals that would act as temporary pillars and supports for these structures - if you would have them."
