Piece

The smallest crack, hm? For a moment the dark figure gazed up at the hints of darkness that could be glimpsed within the fracture. So Piece raised up its hands... and began a polite little clap. "The fool finally catches a hint. That is how you play the leading role." There was a moment where it seemed that its familiar laughter would erupt from it again, but the servant merely nodded its head and vanished into the shadows.

In the winding dark, it was like the carcass of a circuit network. Black and deep reds formed the pattern of this place as it crumbled into nothingness. It was the decaying heart of the angel. Happily gazing at the whole situation was the pawn. It was only fitting; it had been here to start this whole thing anyways. "Kyahahahaha! Stupid, so stupid! You can't save anything with that arm." The light that was emitting from its face shone bright. Then it vanished.

"That arm is the antithesis of salvation. The crusader can't go home. If you wanted to save him... you should have torn off that arm and tossed it away the moment the battle ended. Even if it killed you."

The voice was completely different. It wasn't the mocking chaotic frenzy that was telltale of the servant, but instead a soft and almost gentle tone. Atop one of the branches a man sat, overlooking the situation.

He was out of luck though as spinning in the air like that completely gave away his attentions and thus she kicked off the window frame on the way out and soared above him, avoiding his kick entirely and eventually landing down on the ground below.

"That is strange, I do not remember saying start, quite the opportunist you are Lord Yusho, or perhaps you take pleasure in striking ladies such as myself?"

Justice

As expected, the ghostly eyes he had borrowed weren't enough to follow the witch's piece once it outright disappeared. They'd keep looking with the certainty this wasn't the last they'd see of it. What they could see though, was the crack left in the sky. (It was worrisome, but the sight didn't hum with dangerous urgency like what had concluded before.)

Justice shook his head, and refocused his vision on the road. He took Punishment's reins and spurred it to change course, despite a threatening whinny.

The rider dismounted and pulled Nanako down to the street, as they stopped at the dimly lit entrance of a small hotel. He stretched and said, matter-of-factly, "Changed my mind. Let's just take a rest, we can think about finding a permanent place tomorrow."

Yusho

He huffed in good humor, righting himself to land softly on the mansion's grounds in front of the vampire. "You did grab me out of nowhere," Yusho said, and he stretched his limbs while his good eye fell on her, studying her stance for the moment she would begin in earnest. "But I'll be as much of an opportunist as a fight as I can. That's how you survive fighting stronger foes."

Nanako

The squirrel girl closed her eyes and nestled closer against the Rider's comparatively broad back, faintly registering the sounds of the city passing them by. After a little longer, Nanako felt them come to a stop, her eyes popping open while looking around their destination. The squirrel girl looked confused as she spotted the hotel sign, opening her mouth to speak up when Justice spoke up instead. Nanako thought it over for a moment before nodding and easing herself off the horse, absentmindedly patting it's flank as she stepped away.

"If you're sure we have the cash to spare, then it can't hurt," Nanako said after a moment, looking around for something to distract herself from intrusive things she didn't want to entertain.

Justice

His eyes lingered on Nanako and the tension taut over her figure, only a second before he walked through the door. It didn't take them long to be attended at the front desk, the place more of a old pension than a hotel, having little that could disturb them with indiscreet attention. Some quiet could be really appreciated for the moment.

The white door creeked as the rider opened it, ducking slightly under the frame, and turned on the light to the unremarkable but tidy room. Overlooking the mass-produced furniture, Justice placed a hand on Nanako's head and patted her hair once. Then he walked past and sat with a heavy thump on one of the two chairs around a small table, placing his hat down on it.

"You should get cleaned up before sleeping," he said, as he closed his eyes. "You might feel better."

Copious amounts of blood had seeped into her clothes and hair, not to mention tail, more than he'd realized.

Aruna

Those arms wrapped around her and for a moment, a single fleeting moment, she was happy.  She had worked her ass of, fought the accusor just to feel the warm of his body once more and then...

"Brother?"

Aruna looked down, only to see her arm inside of him, piercing his body.  Whereas the moment of warmth was sharp, warm and fleeting, this one was intense, numb and drawn out.  That light, illuminating his body was taunting her once again, covering everything she loved in pain and death.

"What?" she asked, slowly looking down at the arm of light.  "N-no.  I finally figured it out.  We were the same all along and you.....  You lied!"

And then he was gone, replaced by a familar voice.  She turned, only to see a man standing above her, looking on.  It sounded like that creature from earlier.  Yet this time it was different.  There was a change in tone and well, he had a completely different form.

"Go to hell!  Though your words carry a biting truth, you disgrace yourself by telling me them so late!"

She stared at the arm, worried about the thing growing.  Was that another manifestation within the soul or was it Asmael himself?  The soul was crumbling but it wasn't gone, not yet.  Could he still be saved?

Asmael

Urgh. Great, the heckler. Can you be quiet for a second trashface? I'll rip you up to shreds after I'm done with the lady.

The voide within the arm snapped. After all, this was her moment. Ruining it like that was in such poor taste, it almost made him want to cry. Owo, twe angwews awe bewing mwean to mwee! Papa! Mama! Somebwody howd me, somebwody savwe me! Urgh, shut up shut up shut up! GOD, this whole sentimentality was utterly sickening, it reminded him of why humans were so revolting.

The arm of light began to twist into sharp shapes, litterally brimming with thorns that kept expanding inside her body... and his.

Sweetie, oh, sweetie. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so mean. I told you we would save him together, and that was no lie. But it's okay. I'll give you more power, I'll pump you in every spot until you can't take it anymore. And then, we can become one. Just like him, it'll all be okay. After all, you can do this? If it means saving a friend, you'll hold every weight in the world.

"Run...A...run...aa...lucy...ghrh! Ghkh- GHRKGHRHGGGHHHHHH!" The arm kept ripping and tearing straight into him. His eyes, his soul, everything was burning. The antithesis to his own being, that was what the arm was. Now that he couldn't host it anymore, it decided to latch on a fresher body and finish the old one off. A twisted inheritance from a most esteemed Father.

But you threw that away, and now the debt is too much for you to pay. Not saving him, and not being able to hold on to your freedom. That was the option you failed to see. I'm impressed! I guess angels are getting dumber and dumber, but hey! It takes one to know one. So rejoice, the crusader will die, and you can take his place as my new host. Aren't you happy? He won't have to suffer anymore!

After all...

The only salvation a monster can hope for is death.

Nanako

Nanako, on the other hand, was all too aware of the blood that had soaked onto her, and while the headpat brought her a brief spark of warmth, it didn't last long. The squirrel girl nodded at Justice's suggestion before getting into the bathroom, stripping out of the tattered remains of her ring outfit and hanging her blood-soaked jacket up on the wall hook, barely remembering when she'd picked it up again from the debris. She knew how to get blood out of her fur, having had to take care of it after many fights, and went about the work quietly.

The warmth of the shower felt dulled against her skin as she went through the motions, scrubbing and rubbing with a damp towel. No matter how much blood came off, however, it seemed that there was still some left. After a while, the squirrel girl worked faster, switching to a fresh towel as the shower cleaned away the dirt and grime from the fight. At last, it seemed her hair was clean, but then she looked at what was left on her tail. Nanako's frustration grew as those thoughts she didn't want to have clawed closer and closer, the squirrel girl chucking the second towel with a frustrated grunt, the towel hitting the door with a wet slap before it slid down. Nanako stared at the spot where the towel had impacted for a moment before taking a deep breath, grabbing another towel, and getting back to work. Her tail was much harder work, owing to both the fur being thicker and there being far more that was soaked in blood. While most of it wasn't immediately obvious, the lighter streaks along the length of her tail had clearly darkened, though they were getting lighter with each round of dabbing the blood away.

At last, Nanako was fairly sure she'd gotten the blood off her tail. When she went one last time over her head, however, she could've sworn she'd come away with more blood. The water was starting to cool as she continued to clean it, certain she kept seeing more red where she'd thought she'd already cleaned all of it away. At last, the squirrel girl resisted the urge to throw this towel as well and squeezed it out, putting it on the rack to dry before looking over her blood-stained clothes. Frowning, Nanako toweled herself off and picked through her clothes for something that wasn't covered in blood, but no such luck. Shrugging, the squirrel girl left the shower without even bothering with a towel, entirely unconcerned with her nudity.

"Alright, I'm done," Nanako said, hopping up onto the bed and lounging back on it, unconcerned with the view she might have been giving the Rider, "Could you get my clothes to the laundry? Probably not the best idea to leave the room like this."

Piece

The man twitched a bit, as if he was someone breaking in a new coat. "What a hopeless girl. Do you think standing and watching will save him? Use your ears and listen. That arm can't save anything. If you ever held even a spark of love for this decaying body, you would destroy it instead of trying to trade platitudes with it." He paused after that, his lips quirking up into something almost resembling a smile. It was like a joke only he was aware of.

"In this world, no one can choose who they are. Everything was designed with purpose, even if that purpose was to be thrown away. But... the piece cannot know the reason for which it was created. Not even if told directly by their creator. After all, a creature utterly certain regarding their meaning is a comical farce when it is broken apart. So please, continue without thinking at all. Everyone is ignorant; if everyone is ignorant then they are completely free. Isn't that right, my master?" Speaking without regard for anybody and for the sake of nobody, the man laughed at the proceedings.

"He has made an outcome for the story, but a definite ending is only possible alone. Since He doesn't want to be alone He will submit to the will of another. Fight on, Aruna. Save yourself, save him, find the place most distant from God's light. If that 'ending' is doomed, summon forth endless beginnings so he will never reach it."

For that too is mercy.

Justice

His posture perked up in surprise as Nanako came out of the bath utterly unguarded, but Justice had surprisingly few thoughts to spare towards that. He could tell she didn't have her energy back yet, but reminded himself, and kept his expression unmoving as he got up to retrieve her blood-stained clothes.

"You should throw something on," he huffed in dry amusement, in the middle of leaving the room. "I'll see what I can find."

He came back without his trenchcoat, the item on his person most darkened by blood having been removed and thrown into a washing machine by the insistence of a very near-sighted and insistent lady. Justice had told her it was a waste, but when he asked for spare clothes for his roommate, well, then he couldn't refuse anymore.

With a slight shake of the head to himself, he left the old t-shirt and baggy sleeping pants on the bed next to the squirrelgirl.

Nanako

Nanako cocked an eyebrow when Justice came back without his usual trenchcoat, the distraction pushing back at the unpleasant thoughts creeping closer. Curious, the squirrel girl sat up and looked him over, surprised by how much of the look changed with the removal of one thing. Then again, considering how much the trenchcoat covered, it was a less surprising change than the bandana. She looked at the offered clothes with disinterest, looked back at him, then decided she might as well. Quickly slipping into the clothes, she went back to laying back on the bed, occasionally shifting in her spot, looking for something to distract herself.

"Today was...something," she said at last, having found nothing to distract herself, "I mean, sure we had words for things like gods and angels, but I've never seen one, and that whole Morningstar thing..."

...Anime? What in the heavens name is that?

"Then why worry about it now, isn't your plate full as it is? The only place reckless idealism is going to send you is an early grave." He didn't seem fazed by her irritation or frustration, instead cutting straight to the point.

"We can't take unnecessary risks. If you have enough energy to worry about an imaginary enemy, worry about keeping yourself alive. We can always let the others know about this, have someone more capable deal with that. Right now, what matters is the forest."

Dahlia

She reached out and took one of Sakura's raised hands into her own for a moment, nodding and rubbing the back with her thumb as if to try to soothe her. "He's not wrong. A threat or not, we don't know enough to act on that knowledge right now. So what do we do? Wait for this guy to wake back up again and ask him more questions? Or we can keep going and hope we don't get lost."

Saku

Sakura sighed, rubbing her forehead with the tips of her fingers, groaning in annoyance and exhaustion. She just felt entirely too overwhelmed.

"Fine. You're right, whatever. Let's get this done with."

"No it is not, if you had truly fought an enemy that was stronger than you then you are very lucky. The true way to beat them is to not fight them and come back when you are stronger."

She looked at him lazily, it wasn't the time to strike, not yet. "But if you being an opportunist is to your liking then I will be very happy to exploit the weakness dangling between your legs."

Yusho

"You don't always get that choice," the exalt responded, straightening himself. Calloused fingers brushed over his eyepatch, unwittingly moved by certain memories.

But then Yusho inhaled and spread his feet further apart, entering into a flexible devil-hunting stance. A golden haze thrummed from his silhoette, and in a heartbeat was painted over by the chilly light of his dragon-blessed soul.

"Oh, you did quite enough of that a bit ago," he said, his mane fluttering with icy reflections. The exalt took the measure of her stance patiently. "I'd rather not, right now."
