Corporal Mathew Blackburn:

The only things that the Dragoon knew of the world upon waking was the warm liquid over his right eye, a terrible headache, and a low thrumming sound with the occasional spark pops.

"Ugh..." he groaned as he slowly opened his left eye (the blood from the cut on his forehead prevented him from opening his right). He looked to his right, only to see his Hot-Shot Volley Gun's cord was torn in half. Sergeant Halliday is going to give him hell for that.

Wait...

His mind clicked right then, and everything came crashing back to him: the Tyrannids, the atmosphere igniting, being tossed around in the flying tin box known as the Valkyrie...

Looking forward, Mathew sees the sprawled bodies of is squadmates. He tried to stand up, but quickly stumbled due to the searing pain in his left leg. "Halliday? Mcregor?" He called out, "Beckett?"

None of them so much as twitched.

Blackburn crawled towards the closest form: Halliday. It was clear that the man was dead, even without removing the Face Shield. Said piece of equipment was dented a couple of inches into where the sergeant's nose would have been. Looking up, he could say the same for Beckett; the human spine does not normally bend that way after all. As for McCregor, well, the vox caster on his back is little more than long pieces of shrapnel piercing his armor.

The Dragoon became far too aware of the sound of fire at that moment. If it reaches the Promethium fuel tanks...

Escape now, he thought, grieve later.

He grabbed his Volley Gun  and holstered it on the side of his battery pack strapped to his back. Mathew then helped himself back up and started limping towards the only sliding door hat wasn't crumpled to oblivion. While stumbling past his body, Mathew picked up Halliday's chainsword, figuring he might need another weapon besides his pistol.

“Hello, is anyone alive in there?”

Someone was outside the wreck!

"I...I am alive!" Blackburn called out.

Upon reaching the sliding door, he peered out the viewport to see a woman standing outside.Mathew then started ulling on the handle, only to slip; is legs still so terrily weak at that moment he can't shift his weight all too well. "I can't open this on my own!" he yelled out once again.

Elyssa

All Elyssa could do is (The Warmonger Equivlent of a) sigh at such nonsense.

Even though he is crouching near a flaming sword, it is still such a small flame. Elyssa looked further down the alleyway and spotted a dumpster. An idea formed in her brain jar...

She walked over to the trash bin and looked through the contents. It looked all relatively flammable, but it won't smell all too pleasant. Well, it is quite cold for normal people.

The Warmonger dragged the dumpster back to where Adjutor was crouching at. And with that, she casted a burst of Balefire right into the trash. The dumpster promptly lit up in bright blue flames. "That should be warmer than your sword," She stated matter-of-factly while turning back to the man.

Cu Chulainn

"Can't agree with that being a perk," Cu remarked with faint disapproval, "I'd say it's more like a curse. But what does the trick for you?"

If the norm can't get her into that state, what can? Is what the Servant is curious about. Did she mention about being something else?

"Huh. Well, sorry to hear about your... gnomes."

Lawn gnomes or not, this guy was a bit queer to be so angry about them. Cu just left it there and didn't try to broach the topic.

"Nice booze, by the way."

Forest

Forest slumped slightly at the tone at Lancer's voice.  As if he was disappointed in her for some reason.  Then he asked what "did the trick".

Well, it's better for him to know now than to pitch a fit later.  What I am isn't who I am, she thought before she straightened up.  She shrugged and answered, "Blood.  Specifically blood of someone more than a mere mortal.  Mortal blood keeps me going, but the Other is what 'does the trick'."

Forest then looked at Henderson and asked, "Why don't you buy new ones?  I mean, you can get them super cheap at the local Dirt Mall on the corner of 5th and Pine."

Despite being rather tired, Grendel remained vigilant on the ride to the station, having learned the hard way that no vehicle is ever truly safe. As if to prove this point, the nearby park featured a crashed Valky- what?!

Grendel turned so fast he might have gotten a bit dizzy if there hadn't been a crashed Valkyrie in the park. It seemed that the officer he was riding with had noticed as well, as the car came to an almost immediate stop as the officer got out, opening up the trunk and retrieving a shotgun loaded with breaching shells while Grendel ran over to the Valkyrie. The troop transport was beyond badly damaged, the scorch marks resembling what Grendel would expect from someone trying to ignite the very air around the craft.

Perhaps this one survived an Exterminatus?

Before he could wonder about that any more, he noticed something, movement. Someone was trying to grab the attention of some random girl standing near the ship. Apparently they had succeeded, but it seemed that they wouldn't be able to get out under their own power.

With that, he starts making his way over to the downed Valkyrie with all possible haste.

"Wouldn't be the same," Henderson says, "They were my retirement payment. Antique Lawn Gnomes. Besides, if I don't teach those Namblies a lesson, they'll just do it again."

"Considering what Laivatain is, I very much doubt that," Adjutor says, picking the two-hander up as he makes his way over to the barrel, warming his hands over it and feeling like a classic hobo for a moment, "But thanks."

Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald

"Test number 120,210. Subject remains stable... Increasing the concentrated dose... Subject has increases aggressiveness... Movement has slowed, motor functions failing... Subject's body has died... Moving to test number 120,211."

The days were beginning to drag for Kayneth, the only breaks in between lectures and research was the time he spent with his four year old son, Bram his pride and joy though he often doesn't show it.

After his daily tea break he returned to his laboratory to continue the research into Zoroastrianism was steady but slow. Oh so very slow... At this rate it would be years before any breakthroughs were made, but such was the life of a researcher. Something Kayneth held with pride.

"Test number 120,225... Subject remains stable... Increasing the concentrated dose... Subject has increased aggressiveness..." According to past tests this was the point where motor functions would slow and die altogether but something different began to happen. The small white mouse that was subject for this particular experiment continued to get fiercer and fiercer as it rammed it's entire body at the small glass case.

"Subject is showing further increased aggressiveness far beyond the previous results..." The glass began to crack with the shear force that the mouse was resorting to. "...Subject is revealing strength far beyond its normal capacity, resorting to anesthetic..."

A cloudy gas flooded the small cage but the mouse continued to madly ram the wall, it was not anywhere near ceasing it's movements. The glass began to weaken further and further until with one final charge the mouse broke through the container.

"Scalp."

Only to be quickly cut in two from a thin silver line that extended directly from Kayneth's arm.

"Subject exterminated more research nece..."

Before he could finish his report the pieces of dead mouse that littered the floor began to bubble and a thick decaying smell lingered throughout the room. As Kayneth turned to face the remains of the body the pieces of the body exploded in great force. Faster than he could react a silver shield protruded before him and he shielded his eyes from the thick mud like liquid that sprayed in all directions.

"These results... In all my years..."

Moments of silence passed and slowly Kayneth removed both his arm and the shield only to find that the the pure white research lab he had stood in was gone. He now stood in a great wooden room filled with all manors of devices not even Kayneth recognized.

"J-just where is this?"

The room was very foreign to him, he recognized none of it. He needed to figure out just how he had ended up here.

"Contact."

A thin wire protruded from Kayneth's arm forming into the shape of a small thin piece of paper. Kayneth attempted to mutter a few names but there were no replies. It appeared he was out of the range of the clock tower's jurisdiction.

"Then were am I?" He had heard of rare events where people were suddenly warped to a new location but such things were not at all common and Kayneth nor any of his current fellow coworkers had ever reported any similar experiences.

Getting his bearings together Kayneth once more glanced at the room around him. Slowly he began to walk towards one of the strange looking doll like bodies that hung in the corner of the room, his curiosity getting the better of him.

"Just what could these be?"

Grenth

Grenth slowly walked through the halls of his home, the sound of his stepping feet and cane accompanied by the pitter patter of the following Flesh Horrors, one carrying a candle, and another one carry a tray above its head carrying his brandy.

He really felt the weight of his lack of practice, he should have been esially able to construct that wall. It is not that his abilities or capacity has been altered. But instead it was more like he simple have not keept the engine running, making it slow to start.

He supposed he should fix that, and what better way than to work on his more… delicate side projects. And so, arriving at his study he opened the door. However what he saw rather annoyed him.

It was a man, in a bazar and blue suit thing. He was standing, looking at one of the skeletal models he was toying with.
"Just what could these be?"

“Prototypes.” Grenth replied to the man’s idle wondering as he walked over to his desk, the horrors putting the candle and brandy on it before scuttling away, he began to poor himself a drink. “I am experimenting with various skeletal structures; those are some of my more promising prospects. Far from complete though.”

He then sat in his chair with a groan, not at all concerned with the random stranger that was intruding in his study. “They are not ready yet for the application of flesh, still not stable enough.” He then took a sip of his drink.

“Now, do you mind telling me why you are intruding on my property?” he asked, then he gestured at him with the hand holding his cup in a hurry up fashion, “Well, spit it out child.”

Lorenzo Remei
[...]

Yukina then said, "But I do not really drink rum, Remei-san... I drink sake!"

"Sake is a Japanese-made rice wine, I say." Rattus interjected, in order not to confuse Lorenzo with her choice of words. "She pretty much has a strong preference for locally-produced goods, since she is a Japanese native herself."

"Yes!" She affirmed. "I really cannot get myself to drink anything else, I do not like the taste..." She then giggled out of embarrassment.

"As for things such as food, drink and sex..." Rattus was pouring more rum into his own glass. "I could tell you right now that it is utterly impossible for me to appreciate sex in all of its forms, especially when my long-term injuries have rendered me incapable of reproduction." He then tipped back his glasses and said, "And I'm not an adventurous person in regards to the matters of sexuality." His tone was droning when he spoke, but with a hint of somberness to it.

As Rattus was drinking another glass of rum, Yukina was left silent by the businessman's elaboration of the things that he can't enjoy or don't want to enjoy. "Onii-chan..." she called out weakly, as if she was consoling him in his defeat.

"However, don't mind me." Rattus continued. "I am someone whose routine mostly consists of working and learning, so don't let me dampen down your spirits. Again, don't mind me. I have been doing this for most of my life." Then, he asked the pirate one more time. "Would you like more sandwiches, Captain Remei?"

Deborah

"Tch, he is clearly a fake" She was confident the Holy Spear was surely something that could not be summoned that way. Deborah's only sensible option was either to run away or pray that her "allies" endured until she was able to conjure a weapon that could be of use against that human. It would take for her around 30 minutes to finish the ritual.

Caedia

The Arisen took a small sip from the cap and began to eat the jerky along with the mix of foods from her bag. She had gotten used to the bitterness of Greenwarish long ago, so she simply gave a rare smile at Crest's glare.

Then, in an even rarer show of trust, Caedia closed her eyes and rested against the wall. It didn't take long for her breathing to become even as she fell asleep.

David

The Joyous laughed at the soldier's actions with a type of genuineness rarely heard in this world. As she did this David began to speak again while The Scholarly was still enraptured in thought.

"We would need materials. Magic can be handled by the Scholarly but in order to build a portal we need a lot of metal with high melting points.  It would take a little while but it's definitely possible."

Then The Scholarly spoke up. "There is always another option. Older methods can use fresh blood to create the portal. With enough of it we can ignore any material requirement and-"

The elderly man's mouth was shut by a pointed look from David. "As I was saying if your superiors are concerned about leaving the Nexus I'm sure that we can attempt something if they're willing to supply the materials.

Ann

Death gave a dismissive snort at the oppressive darkness that surrounded the mall. It wasn't magic so it did affect her but this Shell was more than capable of surviving the void unhindered. So Ann simply sat on the floor and began to nap.

Ascended

The being of Light took the destruction of the spear in stride and readied itself to counterattack as his opponent drew near, but something changed. The sound of thunder blasted away any thought he had and stunned him long enough for the fiery blade to descend upon it.

But it was not harmed. Certainly the blade cut through it's metallic flesh but whatever pain that could have come from the wound was ignored in favor of cold, righteous fury. The darkness had already began to fade but that did not bother the Ascended. A blinding light emanated from its other hand as another construct formed, but only the servant of Light could see what the construct was due to the harsh Light it emitted. A blade made of shining power so bright that it was if he had held a shard of the sun in his hand.

Then in one motion he moved his foot to slam down on his opponent's while he swung his blade at his opponent. But the blade had done some damage. The strike had hindered its movement and the sudden lack of weight on one side messed with the being's balance as it moved so suddenly. It's footing was obviously faulty and a good enough strike would easily knock it down.

Butler

Butler took a small sip of tea as he listened to Wiseman's story, carefully taking in every detail. Once the wizard was done, he laid his cup back down, and looked to the other man.

"That is quite the rich tale. I hope you'll forgive me if mine does not seem up to par," he said, unnecessarily coughing into his hand before continuing. "Bear with my unorthodox method of narration. It is the best way I know to tell my story."

Butler let his hands drop to his lap closed, straightened himself out, and with a long intake of breath began.

"Once there was a little boy whose family had been separated and sold into slavery, the boy included. The boy was alone, and mistreated, and did not know what to do about himself. But he was bought by a quaint sir, who wanted a young aide he could mold as he desired. The boy's new master was kind, kinder than any of the slavers or the previous people he had to serve, and he was generous.

The sir taught the boy a lot. He taught him how to read, how to write, how to fight, how to use a firearm, how to serve. He wanted to teach the boy all he could, and in return the boy served him well, and loved him like a surrogate father. One day, the boy dared to ask him about his estranged family, and much to his surprise, not only did his master answer his inquiries, he gave him all the aid he could in tracking them down.

Alas, the boy was too late to find them. His family had all perished by the time he went on his journey. Demotivated, he returned to his master. And though the good sir could not console him, he offered him freedom and any amount of money he wanted to find his way in the world again. But the boy decided to stay. He had nothing else left aside from his master. This decision struck the sir, who swore upon the boy eternal friendship. So the years went by. Until one day, the boy's master collapsed. He had not died yet - but he was knocking at the doors of death. So the sir asked the boy, who he loved as the son he never had, if he would receive one final gift from him. Anything, the boy answered.

You see, the sir was a magician. One who had pursued the occult and the mystic for the sake of knowledge alone, always seeking to touch the divine with his mind. In the final years of his life, he had finally found something of substance in that research. And though he could use it to save himself, he didn't. Instead, he granted the boy an undying body made with flesh stolen from the realm of God, and wished that he would live on.

So the magician passed away. And the boy was left alone. In devotion to his master, thankful of his kindness, in adoration of his character, and appreciation of what he was taught, the boy - long past a man, now even beyond Man - resolved to dedicate his life to those that would be worthy of it. For himself, and for his master, to thank him for all he had done for him."

Butler ducked his head as he finished the story told as if in a single breath, giving the impression of someone dozing off in reminiscence. For a moment, his featureless skull of a face was alive with the expression of an tried and aged man, brightened by nostalgia and fondness. The next instant, it was gone, and he looked up to Wiseman.

"Did I satisfy your curiosity accordingly?" He asked, once more bringing his cup to his mouth.

Wiseman

The magus gave a small smile as Butler finished. "An excellent tale and you did satisfy my curiosity, but I'm afraid there is something I'm confused on. You said that the flesh was taken from the realm of god, and I'm not entirely sure what that means considering we may have different ideas of what the word 'god' implies. It would be very useful to me if you explained it."

The warlock drained the rest of his tea as he awaited an answer.

Butler

Butler shook his head, and with a clink laid down his empty cup as well.

"I cannot say for certain. I was his assistant and student, but I never learned magic proper, for I did not have the talent for it," he explained. "My master's research concerned the world beyond this one and the essence of the universe itself. The God he often spoke of refers to an ineffable, omnipotent, omniscient source. That was the domain he hoped to breach. Whatever he retrieved from there was what he used to give me this body; but I am in the dark about the details. My apologies."

Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald

Kayneth was baffled of the idea that someone might think him a child. Yet he had to face the facts, he had suddenly appeared in some unknown residence after a mishap with his experimentation, that put him as the one at fault not this new figure no matter how menacing or rude the man may appear to be. If that was the case then pleasantries were required in order to sort things out.

He had heard mention of alchemists working on new homunculi or golems of various types but that being a field of study that he was not focusing on currently he had been unfamiliar with the process. As such he deemed these skeletal templates to be curiosities and nothing more.

With that out of the way he fully turned towards the man who was clearly the resident of this place seeing as how he stated as such mere moments ago and Kayneth had no reason not to believe him. Even still Kayneth held caution as he stated his own reasons for being here making sure to give his most pleasant smile as he politely bowed to show his greetings.

"It appears I have arrived in a location I did not intend to reach, and for that I am most apologetic. My name is Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald, ninth head of the archibald family, and the head of the department of spiritual evocation where I also serve as a lecturer and scientist into the world of magic. Of course this should be well known to anyone of such prestige to hold a house as pleasant as this as I'm sure you are also well aware of. It appears that during one of my experiments into the nature of Zoroastrianism and it's nature one of the test subjects began to exhibit unusual qualities and though it was taken care of with ease it left behind quite a mess. During the course of attempting to recover from said mess I ended up leaving that laboratory and somehow found myself in this particular you room. Only a few minutes have passed since then and I am completely unaware as to where I might be. Would you care to enlighten me about this particular issue? At worst I expect that I might have left the realm of the clocktower and ended up into one of the neighboring manors, does this hypothesis hold at all?"

Grenth

It was obvious this child had magical ability, and a fair amount of it, it was also obvious that he was incredibly idiotic. Grenth was by no regards a ‘people person’, his students having been sure to point that out all the time. But even he knew there was a simple way to act when you are trespassing on someone’s property.

He raised his hand to his face and pinched the bridge of his nose, “Not a child then, just an idiot boy…” he mumbled in frustration, but it was still loud enough to be heard. It was more than obvious he was not trying to hide his opinion, mainly because he did not care to.

Then he lowered his hand and continued, “So then, you simply vanish, find yourself in a stranger’s home, then you waste my time with a longwinded, and mostly pointless explanation, although I must give you credit for bowing to your better… “He trailed off and looked at the man before him with a cold glance, “But yet you do not disengage the magical construct on your body?”

The threat was obvious. Of course Grenth had sensed it, only an idiot with little skill in magic could not when it was right in front of them.

What this idiot boy was doing was the same as greeting the owner of a house while holding a loaded gun in plain sight. A foolish action that Grenth did not take kindly to.

AKIHOLARME

Donkey seemed quite willing to go along with Rebeca, but Aki’s pride rebelled at the thought of living under another’s roof in charity. She removed her hand from her traveling companion’s shoulder and turned to fully face the white haired girl.

“Are there no inns for travelers to rest in this city?” she asked.

ANATU

Almost none of the words this man spoke were ones Anatu recognized, but his smile and tone were so soothing she couldn’t help but offer a genuine (although shaky) smile in return. He seemed nice and everything about him called out to her in a way she couldn’t describe. Shuffling forward, she timidly gave the mysterious blue man a hug, damning the consequences of being affectionate with someone of such a high caste. It had been a very terrifying few minutes and she had been so lonely the past week, she would endure anything for a hug.

SAMUEL IBARRA

Ibarra didn’t know what to make of the Joyous at this point and decided to ignore her. It would apparently either require a significant amount of raw materials, perhaps to build an actual structure for the portal. According to the Scholarly a large amount of blood would also suffice, but David did not seem to like that option and the compliance of the Scholarly depended on David’s whims.

It’s a shame, blood is so much easier to gather than specific metal alloys. Hopefully coercion wouldn’t become necessary, this would be much easier if he remained on David’s good side.
