Emily
As the strange agent left, the redhead finally let her shoulders slump as she let out a long sigh. Leaning back in her exceedingly comfortable chair, Emily glanced back at the plaque that marked her as a certified medical practitioner, the unnecessarily fancy font practically impossible to read even without the ceiling light reflecting off of it. The offer had been a lucrative one, no doubt, and one that would let her help more people than she would've been able to from her clinic. It was hardly new to the redhead that she was overqualified for the position that she occupied, but taking a position at the head of something was still something she wasn't entirely comfortable with.
For that matter, it was one she hadn't been comfortable with since that mess with that one Autumn bitch. After that debacle, she'd found that she was much more comfortable operating just below the head, in a place where she didn't have a target on her back. Still, the fact remained that her successor would be perfectly suited to the position they'd fill, while she'd be better suited for the position offered just now.
Maybe it's too optimistic to hope that something won't come up there, but a week without incident would be a nice start. Still, it'll be nice to have the resources of a hospital to work with.
Sitting up straight again, Emily looked over the package that her supervisor had left behind, detailing the terms of the position she was being moved up to. Moved, not offered. Some part of the Changeling rankled at her lack of a choice in the matter, but with the reluctance she'd expressed long before this meeting, she couldn't say she was surprised, even without taking into account her being over qualified for her current position.
Grabbing hold of a distraction she kept for any children coming into her office, a plastic cylinder fill with water and some other viscous fluid, Emily turned it over to watch the bubbles race along through the tracks in the cylinder, unable to help wondering about the events that had landed her in this strange city. An errant walk through the Hedge on her way home after a long day at work, only her exit out of the Hedge landed her in a completely unfamiliar place. Orienting herself in the weeks that followed had been the hardest part, but at least finding a job hadn't been hard. She'd seen firsthand the experiences of those less fortunate in her time here, but while it wasn't much different from back home, it was still enough for her to do what could while she was off duty.
Of course, her new position being what it was, she could rest secure in the knowledge that she'd be helping just as many on the job as she'd helped while off duty. Getting up and stretching up with a small groan, Emily pulled on a light brown jacket over her shirt, not bothering to close it, and punched out, her day's work completed.
